people don't understand how long ago this was, look at the board, no nose just really look at the board and the tricks he is doing, the two just don't match.

I remember being 12 yrs old and watching this part when it came out for the 1st time. Our skate gang would watch the tape at my buddy´s place on a VHS copy. We were mesmerized by Natas´ cool new progressive skating. Immediately after seeing the Streets of Fire tape we went out on the street at 9PM and tried to reproduce some of the cool new tricks Natas was doing: bs 270 boardslide, 180 no comply, fs wallride, 50/50 to lipslide. Back then with no internet we only had access to the monthly Thrasher skate mag & random VHS copies to see what other skaters were doing around the world. Our gang of 5 best friends (still until today) gathered Sat&Sun early morning to take the subway&bus and rip all the skate spots around the city, eventually coming back home sometime around dusk. Good times growing up in the early 90s.

I would say 1989-1991 was TOTAL FREEDOM for me.. It's funny how we went from barely being able to grind & ollie to doing tre flips & nose blunts. (Still never could do backside.) But then skating got really stale with BPSW era. ~~~Natas had really cool style with his grinds.. I remember all of us spent a week trying to 189 fakie nose grinds. I have no idea what skaters now call that. We called em what i said.

I remember times when you were called a poser for touching your board with your hand. but Natas shows that this is a uniqe style of skating that takes years to master i mean 0:34 look at that clean boneless bro an then think about his Natas Spin. He truly mastered skating

I love skaters who look like they are having fun. So much of it today is about busting your ass to get the craziest footage possible to the point most pros seem to dread it. This is about as far from that as skate videos get. Natas always looks like he's having a great time skating

This stuff was all wildly new then. Like climbing Mount Everest for the first time new when we first saw it. Things people never even considered doing. If you skated then the stuff guys like Natas and Gonz and other street skaters were doing was incredibly revolutionary. In the early 80s we used to boneless everything (Natas even does one in this vid at 1:19, basically a relic of a bygone era at this point) and street was just moving into ollie-centric tricks. Meanwhile Natas, Gonz, and a few others were already doing this bigger stuff and starting to boardslide and grind handrails, wallrides, kickflips, etc. And all with old-school heavy boards and wheels still. It may seem kind of tame in the 2020s. But in late 1980s this was a tectonic shift from old-school street skating (go back and watch the old Bones Brigade videos for a record of how we used to skate street in the early 80s) to a very different approach. And Natas is, arguably at least, the most central figure of that shift.
