Seems to me the purpose of fishing is defeated if you have to use your hands to maintain control of your boat. Not to mention what happens if you lose connection in a strong current.

Here ya go. Two pieces of 2×4s rip the 2×4 down to a true 2in and you will need two pieces 9in long. Drill your holes with a 5/16 bit and there is your cheapest option. And it works absolutely perfect.

Really appreciate you putting your experience out there for us! I'm about 400# as well and have a nucanoe frontier 12. I agree, this kayak does preform well in terms of stability and paddalability. It will not win any races and in the higher seating position, you do have to learn to control your center of gravity, movements, counter balancing, etc. (As you alluded to). I've paddle this kayak from the low seat position (more typical of sit on tops) - stability was further improved, but I thought paddling became a bit more difficult. I could probably overcome this in time by adjusting my paddle strokes. My legs and back cannot handle this position as my legs cramp and fall asleep. I too am working on constructing outriggers. I still struggle getting on and off the kayak, and, embarrassingly, I dump the boat over 1 out of 3 attempts. Not pretty lol! I wondered if a tiller steer motor would be difficult for us larger fellas. If I'm honest, I struggle just to turn around or when picking my tackle box up off the floor. Dealing with a tiller, particularly needing to lean, seems rather cumbersome and unstable. I think a bow mount motor with a remote control would be a good option. Are you still happy with the frontier?

I sold it, but not before adding a Motorguide Xi5 and some High quality Outriggers. Love that combo. Worked great! I ended up buying a BSB Angler 360 Pro Catamaran. Loved it also. Recently Sold it. Not Fishing at the Moment, but I have lost down to 223. I may get a Hobie Pro Angler 14 at some point if I get back into it.

Plus I’m very detailed told every step I was making where I was standing just so this person could see how my boat which was exactly like his was reacting to my weight compared to his. Sorry it didn’t help you, it help him tremendously.

  • @RichardC313

Lowering the seat helps significantly with stability when moving about in the kayak. This is especially helpful when you're out in large or fast water with pretty good waves coming in to keep you and the kayak stable.
