    Thank you, and yes I know. Experimenting like this often has me starting with way too much headroom (might be needed for the feedbacks), I wished KZread added Normalizing processing for audio -- especially since e.g. Instgram has had similar contrast boosting functions for ages… but you’re absolutely correct. I’ll try and look into optimizing pre-phone better… ❤

    Thank you! sure, fire away. I'll do my best... :) I guess droning could work, the pitch stayed pretty stable... lowering the supply voltage produced many random effects though... (also these no brand versions are somewhat more unstable than "brand name" ICs)

    This is probably the best sounding diy tape delay Ive seen on youtube. Excellent work man. The idea of making a tape delay is what really kicked me in gear to learn about electronics some years ago. Still have not built one haha. • @jacobsteel

    Thank you! Yes, I like it a lot. It's based entirely on 741's LDR's and lighbulbs, it's Haible's board (more on his development here) jhaible.com/legacy/compact_clone/ As far as I've been able to compare the circuit designs the phasing parts is identical. elektrotanya.com/schulte_compact_phasing_a.pdf/download.html However, I haven't seen what's inside the remote to the Shulte - and the knob I added was for "Manual" (I also added an input for Expression pedal, e.g. av regular volume pedal (just takes the light of the bulbs up and down manually instead of by built in LFO). Here's how it sounds when this Expression input is controlled - via Vactrol (LED to LDR) by the trig out from a drum machine (that was more interesting than just an envelope follower) kzread.info/dash/bejne/dGaql6V9nbLZfKQ.html

    Love this. How this is setup to be a delay effect? I've been trying all day and can't seem to get this happening....

  • @jacobsteel
    @jacobsteel5 ай бұрын

    Setup via an external mixer. One channel has the sine input, sending to the Nagra III via send 1. The Nagra III is in REC, recording via the Mic. input from external mixer send 1. A second channel on the external mixer takes Nagra audio from headphones, feedback controlled via send 1. Hope this makes it clearer. :) The proof of concept above was mainly "does the tape mechanism pull hard enough to pull a tape via an extra loop". It's a Nagra III, best machine for tape loops: it did. <3 NOTE: I tried to just loop it in the Nagra but it that didn't work. Most of the times external mixers give better feedback control anyway (even when working with regular delay pedals, you can add a limiter in the feedback loop and have much more control etc etc).

    This is wonderful, totally inspiring! I can see me trying something similar with the Akai 4000DS I have that isn't really performing all that well as a normal reel to reel. The added tape head is really cool. Are you erasing the tape as you go? It seems to fade but not disappear right away? Thank you for sharing this!

  • @jacobsteel
    @jacobsteel6 ай бұрын

    Thank you! :) I'm erasing the tape and feeding the echo back into recording. I've tried covering the erase head with tape and that allow for some amount of layer-recording, but the recording gets so much better if you just feed it back. Yes, my Akai had the broken-cam problem. www.vintage-radio.net/forum/showthread.php?t=134714 I see now that cams can be bought here: www.wilkinsons.tv/product/akai-4000d-cam/ (but, as I remember it a few parts were missing on mine (fleamarket find) from previous repair attempts) Another video on this DIY tape echo: kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6yIk5iplLaZcdI.html Here's a DIY tape delay from a cassette deck: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gY2epZShYta8kag.html

    The specs of XT-20000QC3 are 20100mAh/3.7V, so the capacity when outputting 19v is approximately 4000mah or less, not including loss. I think the fact that you can use it for 5 hours means that the actual current consumption is much lower than the manufacturer's official description.
