Very nice! Here in the USA, I have not seen a fixture that takes that type of 4 pins (other than a battery operated lantern) and I do not see these for sale anywhere near me. I believe PL stands for Plug Light, but I am not sure about the extra L. I know the S probably stands for single.

I have the 400 watt version. BT37, E40 base but works fine in an E39 socket with pulse start metal halide ballast with ignitor disconnected. Puts off an insane amount of UV and gets incredibly hot. Basically any mercury vapor lamp can be made as a blacklight by using a woods glass envelope instead of a clear or phosphor coated glass, although they are only made in a few wattages, 125, 250 and 400 are the only sizes I could find online dispite extensive research. Were commonly used in nightclubs and similar large venues and bowling alleys before LED blacklights were available, and gradually replaced the mercury vapor since they add many advanced capabilities such as dimming, stroking, DMX control, and more. Still, the nature of mercury vapor makes for an efficient blacklight source.

Nice video and beautiful lamp! Moreover, if i'm not mistaken, the RA of this lamp is 82, so the color fidelity is also good. I personally love 2700 K or less and prefer only 2000, which my High Pressure Sodium lamps have. This light causes little light pollution and is very pleasant to the eyes.🙂

The Philips lamp was made in Turnhout, Belgium. Date code looks like J4 which which would be September 1984. There will be a date code by the etch of the Iwasaki lamp (made in Gyoda, Japan) consisting of the last 2 digits of the year and a letter for the month using the same pattern as Philips date codes. These were made as long life replacements for incandescent reflector lamps, not for reptiles. Reptile lamps use low iron envelope glass to let out more UV.

Nice video! ML stands for Menglicht Lamp (mixing light lamp). Because there is a filament in it (‘ballast’) and a discharge tube. That's why Philips called it a mixed light lamp. Greetings from Holland.

I've heard of germicidal F30T8 lamps but what particular applications would require one that large? I believe the smaller sizes of 6, 12 and 18 inches are typically used in some whole home humidifiers as well as in some water dispensers to discourage harmful bacteria buildup.

In the USA low pressure sodium lamp dispite having the highest efficiency of all known electric lamp sources of around 180 lumens per watt has very limited use due to the monochromatic yellow light with CRI of 0. It was used in applications where efficiency is more important than color rendering, and in applications where the monochromatic light is a major advantage, including near astronomy observatories, and for special lighting effects in entertainment or scientific purposes. Low pressure sodium lamps are low pressure discharge sources and falls under the same category as fluorescent and neon lighting, but is often incorrectly included in the HID family.
