Scoring a free kick was far easier those days than they are now. It seems that wall members didn't even jump against his shots. Nevertheless, what a freekick taker.😊

Without the drink and the horrible injury he suffered, we would be talking about Gazza the same way we talk about Zidane. Controversial statement, but I actually think Gazza was technically a better player than Zidane. The first touch and elegance are similar but Gazza had better finishing and dribbling.

When you watch players like Gazza, Zidane, Messi, Maradona they have their own unique style or set of abilities that allows you to almost think they’re playing on some sort of cheat mode, or that the laws of physics don’t apply to them in the same way as the rest. You can describe a move or a skill a normal football player does occasionally as Gazza-esque or Zidadne-esque. Having said that, there is one sportsman from the UK that is genuinely a true ONE of a kind. A savant level hyper-genius in his sport the like of which is very much unlikely to be seen again. I am of course talking about Ronnie O’Sullivan. Should be Sir Ronnie. In terms of raw innate natural ability in his sport, he’s the best there’s ever been in any sport ever. 🎤drop.

It’s also the football. The modern day football is too light and malleable. Before the 2000’s, the good quality football for competitions was much better made, perhaps by hand, and had solid materials and weighed heavier so it is more controllable by a skillful player. That’s why you don’t have many exceptionally skillful players anymore.

His two best goals for me was the free kick for Spurs v Arsenal in 91 FA Cup Semi-Final (Seaman one of the best Keepers around at that time left stunned) and THAT goal v Scotland at Euro 96. Arguably the finest footballer England's ever produced, up there with the likes of Best, Cruyff, Messi and Maradonna for sheer skill alone.

Gazza and greaves simply the best
1/Larsson 2/Messi 3/Maradona 4/Ronaldo 7 5/Ronaldo 10
Gazza was one of the best footballers ever to walk the face of the planet... Until he signed for the huns.
Imagine what would happen if Dennis, Zidane, R9 and Figo were in the same team.
