    8/1/24. Second viewing. Still using my AX-33. Gave you a 👍at the first viewing. Seems like Sony is not as interested in camcorders nowadays. They've been pushing blogging capable pocket sized cameras with video capability. Even called it quits on the AX-700. The new A6700 has tons of new bells and whistles, but getting a decent PZ lens costs as much as the body. I'll continue to stick w/ my 33 if only because BOSS is better than all that in camera stabilization that crops the image.

    I just bought the same projector but its making an odd humming/buzzing noise when the lamp is on. I thought it might be the phosphor wheel fan so I took it apart but now I have a feeling the noise is coming from the phosphor wheel itself... Any advice? Is it possible to replace the wheel or is it even worth it trying? Projector works perfectly, besides the noise. Any suggestions really appreciated!

    hey frank, i recently had to open up my epson and replace the main power board at the very bottom of the case. in my epson, there were 3 different flat ribbon connectors being used. i was only familiar with the most common one where you slide part of it back to unlock it. the second type i encountered I didn't figure out until I took some up-close pictures of it and noticed it said "Push" on it. Sure enough, when you press on it, it unlocks the mechanism that locks the cable in place. The last ribbon connector in use was for the 3 video connector cables. This one I got really lucky when messing around with it and it unlatched. It is a hinge type that unlocks when flipped up.

    Unfortunately I don't really have free time to give offline advice. The videos are the way I do that. I do have a few tips I can leave here. If the mains supply is dead, you will probably need the 2 ICs(8 pin that drives the PFC) and the 14 pin. Plus you'll need to find which of the surface mount caps went bad to kill the chips. These are kind of a pain because they are using multiple switching drivers instead of just one. If you just want to replace the power supply, they are available for around $300. If you can find the service manual or schematic for gthe power supply that would be idea. but I can't seem to find a manual. [email protected] is who has the replacement supply if you end up needing one.

    Thanks for the teardown. I'm looking into mine. For some reason the red LED is about 1/10th the brightness it should be and that is causing the optics to not "see" the movement, I think. The buttons and scroll ring still work and the computer sees it.

  • @FixitFrank
    @FixitFrank19 күн бұрын

    Interesting. I know these are susceptible to corrosion from our hands sweating(stuff being spilled). You may have some bad corrosion near the LED(since its at the bottom). these also can have bad solder. There is a chance the LED is failing too. They do go bad sometimes. I'd pull the LED board out and check it carefully for corrosion or bad solder. I need to get my parts listed soon. I have parts from other track balls that I scrapped down and I know I have an LED board. If you get stuck, post here again and I'll get back to you.

    Hard to say what is wrong. Without doing any troubleshooting there are tons of possible causes. No power could be anything from a loose power cord all the way to a bad mainboard and anything in between. Power supply problem(dozens of possible problems there), firmware, door switch, door switch tab, bad ballast causing the power supply to shut down. There are a myriad of causes. Hi, Frank! I have a Panasonic PT ae4000 whose ballast died, but I can't find another like it to replace (I live in Brazil). I only found Aliexpress, but the amount with fees is extremely high. Is there any alternative, another ballast model to adapt to this projector? Thank you very much for the videos, they have helped me a lot. I'm not a technician, just a curious person who loves DIY. Another question... do the ballast used in Moving Beam projectors (event lighting, light cannon), have the same system used in home cinema projectors?

  • @FixitFrank
    @FixitFrank22 күн бұрын

    No, unfortunately you need to use the proper model ballast or repair the old one. Moving beam fixtures use a different driver and cannot communicate with the mainboard. Your best bet would be to find a scrap unit and harvest the ballast. It might cost around the same as the part from Alliexpress but then you have a whole projector worth of parts. I'd look for one with a bad DMD. I suspect they are around.

    Amazing hands on guide to replace Benq 3550 color wheel, but I wonder if you could point me in the right direction with the 3 pin sensor board connectors---like your own example, my wires were also burned, but also the connector plug is cracked and 2 of the 3 plastic places where you push the pins through are gone, ie; nothing separating wires where they go in---tried cross referencing by motherboard micro 3 pin fan plug--would you happen to know what they are properly or how I can find some replacements? Thanks so much!

  • @FixitFrank
    @FixitFrank22 күн бұрын

    That's tough. Personally I would probably glue or epoxy the pins to the connector. Once its plugged in it wont move anymore. then on the board side, I would resolder them or replace them with new wire. You can probably find one from an e-recycler but the cost will be fairly high with shipping. You might be able to use one from an old W1070 or similar. I do think the wires are the same but the actual board is shaped differently. More importantly make sure the lamp is replaced. If the wires burned, the lamp is potentially a knock off without a proper IR/UV filter. That is what I tend to see when the wires are burned. good luck!

  • @jilllean9796
    @jilllean979622 күн бұрын

    @@FixitFrank thanks for getting back to me---I was looking for the same kind of burned wires you demonstrated in your video, but the burning seemed to be mostly within the plug itself so from the outside it only looked discolored and nothing else until I pulled it apart---I ended up trying out some gorilla glue with idea to separately stabilize the connector plug well enough to reattach the wire leads later, but there didn't seem to be enough insulation between the wires, so I did over again, this time reattached wires/leads wrapped in UL tape to the plug, pinched plug, wires and leads together long enough for the glue to set and several hours later, hopefully the glue is cured and I will put it back together a 2nd time, and yes, I did replace the lamp at the same time, so fingers crossed and I would never have gotten this far without your amazing video and I just want to thank you again!!😁

    Hi @FixitFrank - I have an Optoma UHD38 Projector that stopped working recently. Its not getting powered on and LCD display also non responsive on the Keyboard. Opened the Projector to check if power is going to other components like Capacitor/Lamp etc. Looks like the issue is with Keyboard, the power is not coming to the power button itself. This is just my high level diagnosis and I am a novice when it comes to electronics. Came across this video of yours and it is very helpful and looks like similar to the issue i am facing. Is there a way you can help me in checking and repair it ?

  • @FixitFrank
    @FixitFrank22 күн бұрын

    I hate to say it but you likely have a bad mainboard. Not a bad keyboard. The UHD series is a nightmare to work on. I won't even take them in for repair because the repairability is worth than Epson. I must preface this with "In my opinion" Optoma dropped the ball on the entire UHD series. It was their last lamp series and I think they cut every possible engineering corner they could. I have seen UHD38s, UHD60s and other fail with bad mainboard 2 weeks out of warranty. They did a terrible job on thermal management and what tends to happen is the mainboard gets slowly cooked until the BGA chips start desoldering themselves. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but any extra time you spend on this model will be a waste of your efforts. I'd check out the newer BenQ or Viewsonic models currently available.

    I have a friends BenQ DLP projector here because it's overheating after around 5 minutes of usage. It turns on fine and the projected image is impecable. Then, after around 5 minutes, it shuts down with the "Temp" status LED lit. I checked the fans, they all seem to be turning fine. I removed all the dust though there wasn't much to start with. The lamp has around 900 hours on it but seems fine visually (red coating, no visible white deposits). Do you have any advice where to go from here? Thanks! I measured the little fans (the one directly cooling the lamp) consumption: It's given on its housing with 12V / 0.15A, it consumed only 0.5A@12V while running...could this be a problem? The temperatures when the temp shutdown occures are the following: - on the top of the housing just above the lamp around 60°C (140 freedom°) - the lamp itself after removing the cover just after the shutdown ~100 °C (212 freedom °) - pointing inside the front fan 70°C (158 freedom °).

    Hi, I have a BenQ projector that failed with a temp indicator lamp, the tangential lamp fan had failed. I got a replacement, the fan wasn’t for my specific model but it was a three wire fan and the voltage and current rating on the motor was identical. Fitted the fan and the fault is still the same, it powers up fine but after a few minutes it shuts down and the temp lamp is on?

  • @FixitFrank
    @FixitFrankАй бұрын

    The fan is probably not compatible. There are multiple types of similar sized fans. The error reporting is likely different. You really want to buy the same exact model fan. Otherwise the CFM and error reporting will usually be correct. This is partly why people can't install Noctua fans into projectors. The specs that matter are different. You should be able to find a new fan that is the same. Even searching your model and "Fans" may be good enough to find the right brand. Good luck!

    Hi frank, i have a really old projector, LC7281, IT had problems in the input section, so i open up, change de conector, and the projector started working properly. However aftarwards, i just put the final screws, and a few hours later, when I was about to use it. It gave me a LAMP error. The lamp seems fine, the i checked the color wheel, and its not spinning. I cant find any service manuals for this model so its a pain in the s to know where to check. all I know is the fan and color whell does not spin when i starded it, i checked the mosfets and they seem fine. (the previous repais was simple and i didnt had the need to go near the color wheel). Any inputs on how I should troubleshoot this issue?

    Check the color wheel cable if you had it out. Make sure its not upside down. Also check the capacitors in the low voltage supply. That is an old unit so I could see the caps failing by now.

    @@FixitFrank So basically this unit has a pcb only for dc-dc conversion. My ribon seems fine, i didnt touch him, but i have check for continuity and all seems ok, im suspecting there is something going on on the dc-dc pcb since some of the pins are shorting to ground. however i cant say for certain since I dont really know what they should be showing. maybe they are suposed to be ground. Will try to dive into this a litle bit more (visual expecting the Caps seem fine, maybe one is failling and thus the pins voltage) will try to trace it bag

    @@FixitFrank Well quick update, I was just trying to see if I had any signal for the motor and the wheel just started to run again. The projector just started working again and i Just don't know why, It's great to know all it's working. however, it may just fail again and I don't know what to do to fix it. Maybe a bad GND connection.. No ideia. Thank you anyway for your time!

    @@FixitFrank Ok final update, and I'm really sorry for bothering you, basically after a run of 10 min. the projector turned itself of. now all works well projectors start working but the lamp never turns on. The projector continues to go past the heating phase and now it doesn't turn off or light the lamp-led indicator of an error. This is clearly the ballast that somehow thinks is outputting the voltage to the lamp but nothing is coming out.

    HI there. Great video. I have a fan issue that's causing my unit to power down. Ive sent an email to Vava, but if they don't reply then I'll tackle fixing it myself. Any idea where I can find replacement fans if I need them?

    Princess 182020 Digital Aerofryer XL Hello! Really nice video and to see how to check how parts work or not in an AirFyer. Yes, I have a question. I have an older model of airfyer but it's not especially used and I suspect it's just a minor problems today. What happens regarding the error is that the display flashes and sounds and honks on and off when you put the basket in and you can therefore not use the AirFyer. But it is a glitch or malfunction that can be related to the deposit of the basket . It is a form of spring-back switch in the upper rim of the on the Airfryer and if you press the basket firmly the display is constantly lit and you can use the programs My question is what the components are called that are wrong with and how to order them and where?

    check the angle of the photo sensors if it never worked. If it stopped it might be bad solder or corrosions around the sensors.

    I got a cheap one and put a new bulb in it. Just running the new bulb it’s extremely dim. I have the iris all the way open and the lamp power turned all the way up (8 out of 8 brightness positions). Maybe the bulb is just crap? It was from Amazon and was only $60. It does have the IR coating on it. It seriously looks like it’s putting out about 500 lumens. My 2000 lumen Benq is WAY brighter and that’s on an old bulb. Btw this thing puts out an insane amount of heat!! Like 5x my Benq.

    All lamps on amazon are trash. for $60 you got a fake junk lamp. Seriously don't buy them. They are not the same regardless of their claims. One of these cant be sold for less than $100 and be any good.

    Sounds about right. It looks like Jaspertronics has some with claimed Philips bulbs installed. The one I got has no branding whatsoever. I’ve also heard that low brightness can be caused by integrator rods failing. Is this true?

    fF you bought a lamp from Jaspertronics, that is your problem. I wouldn't touch their stuff if you paid me. Pure trash. I have repaired so many units that were flat our ruined by their products. Then people post a real review saying that, and they go and buy a bunch of fake reviews to bury it. rinse and repeat. the day Jtronics goes out of business is a great day for the industry. It could be the integrator rod but I highly doubt it unless their lamp damaged yours. I hope it didnt. these are great projectors.
