The Hollywoodedge elephant sound efects were recorded by Asian elephants, since Asian elephants are easier to train in film than African elephants.
I wish they would all take your class as this is what I have found. I record music groups so I have some background. what is bothering me about film is terribly recorded dialogue. but even a that what is happening on DVDs is that the PCM sound is compressed to MP3 quality any where down to 224 kbps up to a whopping 448 kbps...nothing better than MP3 quality. The audio bit rate is better on Blu-ray discs. I have also found that not enough compression is used if any. I have cleaned up movie tracks that I have recorded about 5 min of audio on then applied compression of 3:1 to 4:1 at about -25db. This is because too many actors are talking Under their breath, so low that almost can't be heard. I also think that mic technique is not very good and lesser quality mics are used. Something is surely wrong when on my nice Yamaha S801 I have to turn the bass to -6 and up the HF to +4 to make it work.
He is one of the best Sound designer and I really loved his work ❤
What a champion
Could this be recorded with an MKH50? Or would you care to elaborate HOW it was recorded? I am in love with the sound of this voice. (Please, don't take it personal, Mark ;-) )
What kind of software is it?
Matt, this was incredible. I loved that you let us shadow you and learn from your process. I'm new to post sound, so seeing how the pros do it, is really great. One question for you, when the mom opens up the oven, the door feels a bit loud. I understand that sound editing and design is very subjective, but what are your thoughts on dropping the levels a bit on that? Just wanted to get your take on that.
Gold star! Great info
Very interesting. Lots of advice which applies to life as well as sound. Thanks.
very, very helpful. Matt is an excellent teacher. I learned so much from this and will purchase the creator pack. Thanks for creating the video for us.
When I try to import a sound, it prompts me to ensure Premiere Pro is open with a project running. I have indeed opened Premiere Pro with a project running.
Thank you
Young Man I still believe you are light years ahead of most of us; therefore, you teach at that level, not at most of us level. You often skip a lot. you forget B, C, and D then go to E. This is not a compliment. you are very talented, but you can't teach. I knew a black friend that was like you. he worked with Quency Jones for a while. he knew he could not teach but he was VERY talented. I continue to watch you video hope you teach something I can follow but skip a lot as to how you get to point B then you go one to C. WHEW!
Awesome
THE Man!!! What an astounding career. Thank you.
Omg I cant die without drive this car I LOVE PORSCHE!!!!
hello, the free version gets me acces to the same library sounds included in the monthly pay version ?
It was a blast.
Thanks for share
question, do you load the game video into ableton? is that possible...
Thanks for sharing!
love this tutorial thank you, I've been using a program called Beatmaker3 i'm exporting sounds created there over to the Video editing program, I think I'm gonna have to start recording sounds.
I came here because of a school assignment where we had to summarize this video into a text document. I watched the whole dam thing and was actually upset the video wasn't longer LOL. I did not think I was going to enjoy watching this whole video.

Mark Mangini is a genius
great!
it would be an amazing plugin if we could use it for davinci resolve too
You can. I use the free version of DaVinci and the free versions of this and I use the drag and drop feature. Haven’t had any issues either.
This is very cool. Thanks. I'd love to know the specific mics he uses--what, for example, is the "8-channel mic" he sticks to his windshield inside.
I love Mark! He is so wise and inspiring!
So let's say I have a plugin and I have a couple of different patches that I want to switch between in a mix in that plugin. Is there a way to automate these patch changes?
I left the company last December to become a freelancing sound designer, and I was self-doubting about it sometimes, but I should be proud of myself because I feel the same way towards sound design as he does.
So true… regardless of your area of interest or expertise. In many ways work becomes play and vice versa.
❤❤
Great vid thanks
Such an inspiration to me…
Hi there Could you please help with fmod integration?
A little tip, if you don't like waves plugins, you can substitute WNS for Bertom Audio Denoiser Classic which is free and works the exact same way. They also have a pro version which lets you set the threshold of each band separately. Great tools and you won't have to worry about waves update policy.

That’s no way near to what Nepal or India sounds like. But a great video nevertheless. I am wondering what interface are you using to write automation?
Hola, como quito las librerías gratis que vienen?, y otra cosa, al cerrarlo y abrirlo no queda guardado como lo configure manualmente
Helpful directions to consolidate audio folder (without using "save copy in") to get linked files in one place!
Why dialogue editing takes up So much time.?Please Answers.
Thank you so much for the great video. Do you use compression on dialog when mixing? What are your thoughts on that?
Really helpful. Awesome tutorial. Thanx.
It's awesome software. Could you add the ability to select a part of the waveform and play it via MIDI thus the 'selected part' plays up & down the MIDI keyboard and when one is happy with the pitch - you can drag it out (or spot it out) to DaVinci Resolve or/ and Ableton Live. I mention DR & Live because they're quite standard for content creators these days. I think a feature like this would be so cool and only add some more awesomeness to an already awesome Sound Librarian. Thank you for sharing, guys
Hello Matt. I have a question that nobody has been able to answer for me. The way you edit the dialogue (DX) is something I've seen many people do, but also within the production sound, there are certain FX that you often use for the film. Obviously, you will later add foley and everything else, yet there are some FX that are within the production sound and are on your DX track because it's the Boom track. What happens when we're asked for the M&E? Will we mute the DX tracks along with these FX? Wouldn't it be better to only have all the voices on one track and the PFX on another? This way, no FX will be left hanging in our DX. Do you understand? I once did a project the way I'm suggesting, and I got scolded because they had trouble matching the DX with the ambiance... Thanks!
