Good question. I try to stay 1-2% below saturation. So if my probe shows saturation at 30% I then shoot for 29-28%.

@@docrodebaugh thank you . I bought a probe this year, same as Nick K has, he ran at 55 last year... it has done nothing but rain here in WI..had 5 dry days and my probe is at 57..so i have to contemplate watering for 1st time this year and at what level i am shooting for.

I remove most of the petals off 24hrs after pollination. The firmly attached area next to fruit is allowed to stay for another 3-4 days. It eventually softens up and comes off with ease.

What is green board ? I used to drywall houses in the 90s green board was a term used to describe Drywall that was moisture resistant in the bathroom. But what are you calling Green board? It can't be Drywall.

Good ear Mark. No, not gypsum green board. 1" foam insulation board. The same stuff a lot of folks use to top their pallets for fruit transport.

Good question. When the stem splits early in the fruits life I just keep the area dry and let them scar over naturally without any direct intervention.

Great question Bubba. I always let the patch dry just a bit just before burying to keep compaction at a minimum. Moisture sensors had me at .27 pre-water with a spike to .33 after and finally settling at .30 (my patch sweet spot)

Looking good doc. Question for you. How long before you know if the pollination took place. Im Dap 8 right now and its growing slowly. Im juat worried because the day after i pollinated we had a heat spike and went from low 80s to 101 degrees

Good Question. So I take photos every day of the fruit at the same time from about the same angle and distance. Beyond that I observe the coloration, luster, and nub health. All that added together gives me a good idea of growth and health of the potential set.

I imagine there has to be at least some negative effects from its use. However, a few growers far more accomplished than I am have used it before with good results. Figured it was worth a test try in my patch.
