Love the quirkiness of the song and video, though the song can be a more serious one as there are toxic people who may live a "clean" lifestyle. That doesn't make you a good person. In my mind this video is song Japanese, especially running from a lettuce dog. LOL. Well, their previous name was SG5 or Sailor Moon 5 based off the anime. So weird, quirky is what they give. So I understand the Young Posse (who I also love) comparison. Great reaction. Want them to win too.

I’m going to plonk this here to offer you some added context since you’ve stated in a comment you feel like it’s blown out of proportion. And I personally do think this didn’t have to be the huge deal it is, but when you know the additional context behind it… Well, it kind of sucks. So here’s some important context on _why_ Chinese netizens are so extra upset about Korea doing this (if it was a Japanese MV using Chinese elements and not crediting China, it might still be seen as suck-y, but not to this extent) because of some _very specific_ recent Korean-Chinese discourse. I’ve copied and paste an older comment of mine to explain it-and sorry for the very jaded tone throughout the comment; I’m very tired of the stuff that I cover in the comment itself: Raising an eyebrow at the use of Chinese culture as Korean culture in the music video. I’m not into kpop and I could be angrier about it, but honestly I’m just tired. Hell, I almost find it kind of ironic and funny. A while ago, a pretty cool Chinese manhua artist named Old Xian drew art of their characters in hanfu, and Korean netizens lost their minds over one of the character’s hats. They _insisted_ it was a Korean-exclusive hat. Chinese and Korean people began duking it out on Twitter. I didn’t have any strong feelings about it, but I saw some nasty, _nasty_ sinophobia come out from Korean netizens at the time. They claimed Chinese people didn’t have culture; or that their culture was just the tank man image and the Manchurian queue, with them attaching ugly caricatures of said Qing dynasty queue while laughing at it. They also claimed Chinese netizens were just desperately stealing Korean culture because China is undemocratic and desperate. It was so disappointing, especially since before that, I had a pretty positive view of Korea and an interest in Korean culture and history. But that instance felt like a wake-up call-a reminder that much of the world still hates and looks down on China. So anyway, that’s what feels ironic about this to me. Suddenly Chinese culture is cool to them again, as long as they get to present it as their own. To call another country a desperate, no-culture thief, only to turn around and then pull off a heist like this… Ha. Yeah. Irony. If it sounds like I’m tired and jaded, it’s because I am, at least on this topic. A while ago a Chinese KZreadr made a video to highlight the differences between hanfu and hanbok because a Korean website had claimed a Ming dynasty hanfu as Korean and was again claiming that China was stealing Korean culture (even though hanbok actually received influence _from_ the Chinese Ming in terms of design). Her video was met with massive backlash, where Korean netizens used bots to spam dislikes and comments, much of which was the same copied and pasted rant of sinophobia-about how desperate and pathetic China was, stealing cultures because it lacks democracy and freedom (as if democracy and freedom somehow correlates to the preservation of culture). Of course, Chinese netizens also got quite heated and some made comments about Korea that are also condemnable. But many were just exasperatedly trying to express that China _does_ have a culture and that not everything Chinese is stealing from Korea. Some were also asserting the historical fact about how Korea received influence from China, which _is_ a true historical fact, so I don’t fault them for that at least. I can get the frustration. Plus there was also the whole issue with pickled dishes. If I remember correctly, Chinese paocai got to become an officially recognized intangible heritage, which for anyone else would be a decent fun fact to know, but Koreans viewed it as a theft of their kimchi. And surprise, surprise, it led to even more sinophobia. Similarly, Korean netizens were outraged by China including a girl in a hanbok in the most recent Olympics at China, claiming China was stealing from them again. Except they ignored the fact there were 56 other ethnic dresses showcased at that event, because China has 56 officially recognized ethnicities and Korean-Chinese just so happens to be one of those ethnicities. Even funnier is that other Chinese ethnicities were also in their traditional dress, such as a Vietnamese-Chinese girl in what I believe was an ao dai, but no one from Vietnam grew enraged. It was only Korea. I even remember a Korean street interview where two seemingly teenage girls or young adult women said they were disappointed China would feel the need to steal the hanbok, all while they ironically stood in front of a Korean Confucian temple that still had Chinese characters on it. It’s almost as if…cultures can intermix and mingle and influence one another. It’s almost as if no culture develops purely in isolation. For example, China in fact received a lot of influence from Indian culture in terms of Buddhism and dunhuang and even some of the legends, like Nezha. But at least China admits that. And as one video on this Korean MV situation showed, Japanese culture also acknowledges its influence from China and even has some evolved differences from it. So no one would really care if the MV uses Chinese elements, which it does. They’re just upset nobody is acknowledging that there _is_ that Chinese influence, especially given the recent chaos of many Koreans refusing to see China as having _any_ culture at all. You can see it in the fan, some of the clothing elements, and the design choices like how the clouds or knots are depicted. And while none of that is that grand in isolation, it adds up when all put together-and to be done with no comment about Chinese culture at all, even more so when so many Korean netizens have proven to absolutely _hate_ and even look down on Chinese culture, just leaves a bad taste in some people’s mouths. Even more so hearing that the designer did study in China and used to even tag their art as Chinese before this MV. :/ As for me? I’m just tired. Disappointed, but not surprised.

This is not appreciation. It's not like you were buying things in the mall. You think something is pretty and you love it, then you take it--this is appreciation. And still you dont claim the design is yours. And yes, Korea and China have a lot shared history. But there's always difference in each culture. You can't use this excuse to defend this MV. Last, every elements were listed in the video you saw have their own unique cultural meanings in China. They don't in Korea.

The song is catchy and lyrics were intentional. They were called SG5 but changed it to f5ve. Four out of 5 were in a group called Happiness since 2008 that disbanded last year, one of the best J-Pop girl groups. They were also members of supergroup called e-girls. Together with those two and FEMM, Perfume and FAKY they are the top 5 J-Pop groups for me. Unfortunately, e-girls disbanded in December 2021 after their Christmas Goodbye concert and FEMM disbanded last year also after a decade long career.

The whole problem with this is that there are many elements in there that are Chinese, and even if there was influence, there definitely are differences between Korean and Chinese culture. Chinese people aren’t mad with Starship and IVE using Chinese elements, they are mad because Korea is claiming it as their own culture. This completely ignores the fact that 1) it originated from China, 2) it still is Chinese and there is basically none of these elements widely used or present in Korean history. 1) For example, the fan used is specifically a shape that was widely popular in Chinese history and media. Korea doesn’t have any record of this particular shaped fan in their history. Also the karst landforms which were not popularized in Korea and were basically a symbol of Chinese paintings. There are a lot more examples in there that were directly derived from China, and clearly not Korean. 2) The knots are called Chinese knots and basically symbol prosperity and wealth, in the olden days they were used as a form of recording daily activities. The ones present in the music video use a braiding style that is MOST DEFINITELY Chinese. Also they are mainly red in China because red is a color of auspiciousness and life. White knots especially used in the hair represent death which is essentially blasphemy. 3) They wear white tops in a certain scene with black skirts. That particular outfit can also be seen in their stage performances. And there is ABSOLUTELY no record of the knot buttons going straight down in a line in Korean history. That shirt style is most definitely Chinese. And a lot of Cnetizens are calling out the tops because 1: it’s Chinese, 2: they have 4 buttons in total which is an even number. It’s an extremely widely known fact among people the general public that living people always wear an odd number of buttons. Even numbers are for the deceased, and the fact that the tops are white makes it even worse. 4) Chinese culture is NO JOKE to Chinese people, Chinese people hold lots of pride in 5000 years of cultural history. And there are definitely some things that may seem weird to foreigners or might seem like jokes, however Chinese people take things like superstition and old sayings very seriously as many of these have originated from Taoist or Chinese monks.

I don’t see any problem here, actually, since the Christmas was already exist in Korean for many years, we shouldn’t call it Christmas anymore, it sounds so selfish, it should be Korean Christmas or Santa’s day, and I do think Jesus is Korean. Also Kong Zi should be Korean too, let’s say the whole universe started in Korean umpire.

They debuted in 2018 They are ages 23 - 26 Fandom name is Stay #2 Best Selling Artist in U.S 2023 #3 Globally Best Selling 2023 They are unique for several reasons... First, the leader Bang Chan was allowed by JYP to hand pick all of the members himself. They were not placed together in a traditional way, by the company. Second all of them are all arounders. I suggest you watch the intro so you can see how much time, thought and effort went into this song’s creation. But, in the interest of transparency, I got turned off to the channel when there was a reaction and one of the first thing’s that was talked about was whether or not HJ’s lips were real. (They are.)
