This is why GOT was so good, it had incredible moments of drama where you hold your breath totally enthralled at that moment, as if you were there as Jon Snow in total shock and total disbelief in hearing who Maester Aemon actually was. The only moments that compared in all the years I have watched TV and films were In I Claudius and most of all at the end of the Manon des Sources when César at the end learns he killed the son all his life he wanted.

The GOT show removed a generation of Targaryen family from this plot. King Aegon V is Maester Aemon’s younger brother as he said. However, the Mad King Aerys II is King Aegon V’s grandson in the book. It’s interesting to see how the new spinoff show: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms with do with this timeline. I would love to see how the show re-introduces young Aemon Targaryen!

I hate Weiss and Bennioff so much. There was NO reason to cut out Jahaerys from between Aegon and Aerys. They pissed all over GRRM's excellent book at every occasion. It literally infuriates me that they're still working in the industry. Untalented Hacks! My 2c.
