Absolutely fantastic video. That lead was one of my favorites from the time. And then you have the beautiful melodic lead of Empty Rooms. I think you nailed it. It's also great motivation for when I'm struggling to learn a new solo. Slow it down. Learn it properly. Great lesson!

Gary was unreal. Blues alive one of my guitar bibles! He was a one off. If you notice played a lot of licks between 1st and 2nd finger not 3rd as most people would. Like django it might be easier to do it like him..depends on hand size.

I had worked on Out in the Fields 4-5 years ago and finally realized I would never get it right so I did my own pitiful version of it here at home..glad to see you Ben getting it done.. I remember the day he passed I was actually listening to him on KZread and drinking a beer and one of my friends called me and told me Gary Moore died in his sleep.. it crushed me but at least I can still listen to him and his incredible playing...looks like I am about to fire up one of my Jacksons now so Thank you Ben !

Thank you Ben. Love your videos and always good to see Gary being given some recognition. Last two times I saw him live was Hammersmith Odeon for the Still Got the Blues then After Hours tours. The man was fire-breathing and total commitment. His live sound, intensity, honesty and control unbelievable. Such a great loss. Miss him still today but we have his music, some great videos where you get a taste of what it was like to witness him live, and now your video. Cheers mate!

Not only was Gary Moore a great lead guitarist but a GREAT singer as well -- and there's no doubt in my mind that his left hand vibrato was heavily informed by his vocal singing. I think while it's fair that being a great guitarists doesn't need to include the ability or interest to sing, the very best for me are the ones that can & do -- e.g., Gary Moore, Eric Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Tony Rice, Albert Lee, George Benson, Willie Nelson, Mikael Äkerfeldt, Gustavo Cerati, Ry Cooder, Molly Tuttle, Joe Satriani, etc.

Great job on a great solo, Ben. Love Gary Moore. i was lucky to see Gary a lot over the years all the way from Thin Lizzy onwards and always admired how his playing had so much personality and how you could really hear his connection to the guitar. He ripped on all the styles he played and he could really dig into those frets like no one else. Much missed player.

cool... I practiced inside picking so much now it's something I do all the time now, although I still land on up picks often , which is a pain when you're trying to harmonically pick the last note .I also find myself hammering on instead of picking some notes, usually playing fast, I've given up and accepted that !! it did my head in for ages too, and still does at times....

I would love to see how a couple things are done, that I somehow can't quite reach on a song called "Hope" by DGM. The lead breaks are phenomenal. There's a piece around 3:25 that is so clear and concise that I can't seem to catch it, and a descending/ascending run near the end of the song, which is fairly common, but extremely fast, and I know I'm not the only one who needs a tip on how to get it to come out smooth.

Gary Moore had the fastest hammer on pull off I have ever heard. I swear he had Usain Bolt level fingers. But I did hear a story that even he admitted there were times he regretted making that run so fast. Shortly after the track came out it was transcribed in one of the guitar magazines and I was pleased that I could play it at half speed! To this day it has always been the one solo I never dared dream I might be able to play in time with the original but who knows. Maybe if I spend the next year practising......

I think you are spot on with the first part of the hellish run going over the fretboard until reaching the high E string. Especially in live videos you can see how Gary seems to "strugle" more on the Yngwie pattern, and I think it is intentional: he is starting with a safe pattern he is able to play really clean but as the run gets higher in pitch and the tension with it, the excecution of the picking gets wilder, almost as getting aout of hand as playing it clean gets tougher, like a speeding car getting out of control when reaching high enough of a speed.

Gary pulled that shit off just by shear force of will. All the guys that came after him figured out all the economy picking and finesse, where Gary just dug in and powered through it. Also amazed me that he would do stuff that I would play with 1st and 4th fingers with 1st and 2nd. A lot of his playing in the “blues era” is with 2 fingers. Mind blowing.
