    Anne was probably not as pretty as the actress portraying her, but she certainly was not ugly. Hans Holbein was noted for the highly realistic nature of his portraits, and his depiction of her reveals an attractive woman. Henry was turned off by her less than enthusiastic reception of HIM, so he retaliated by referring to her as being ugly. She was also not his type. Anne was tall, blonde and solidly built. Henry preferred brunettes and redheads who were more petite. She also knew only German, which Henry did not speak, and her only talent was sewing. She could not dance or play any instruments, and was not well educated.

    Do they know if this painting was made in France or did it just somehow end up there, because I don’t know why Anne would be wearing a gable hood in France as that would have been unfashionable there. The only other way this could possibly be Anne is if she sent a portrait to the royal court of Francois after she was queen as a gift… but if she was queen, that would not be her coat of arms, which I am not sure is even connected to the Boleyn Family. So I have my doubts this is her.

    @@cherrytraveller5915 No, not at all, in fact, Mary remained very good friends with Anne, especially after the latter converted to Catholicism. When Anne died, Mary gave her an elaborate funeral. Anne actually did have problems with Edward VI in a financial sense. As part of a series of cost cutting measures, he had limited her annual income. This was actually increased when Mary ascended the throne. Anne had no particular interest in terms of Elizabeth becoming the Queen.

    I’d say to use the word loath in regard to Cromwell’s feelings toward Anne Boleyn would be too strong. Instead I would say Cromwell was out to get Anne before she got him. Their major disagreement being over the distribution of funds from the dissolution of the monasteries. Anne wanted them to go to more charitable causes and Cromwell was lining Henry’s coffers.

  • @imsunk5813
    @imsunk5813 Жыл бұрын

    I’ve often wondered whether Henry would have legitimised him and added him to the line of succession had he lived. If I remember correctly he died just a couple of months after the execution of Anne Boleyn. I could imagine Anne using all the influence she could muster to prevent that happening while she lived.
