Everyone in Layndell eternal city fled in the coffins down the waterfall. All the corpses are at the bottom. That’s why it is empty.

I rarely watch lore videos if they are not from you… the way you objectively pick the source material apart is such a breath of fresh air compared to other creators I’ve seen projecting what seems to be their own hopes and aspirations for the game’s story and lore. I’ve seen some fun theories but the bulk of them are built upon unfounded claims and even rumors! Not trying to put anyone down but I must say you are simply better and I hope more lore creators take note of your steadfast commitment to fun educative material that promotes critical thinking and media literacy! 🙂

These are the ultimate Elden ring lore videos. No one else has been able to bring this much context to the lore of the game in such a concise and understandable way

30:30 did you really predict the Scadutree and the "Lands of Shadow fit in the Lands Between" theory over a year before the dlc released? 😲

Has anyone considered seismic activity, there is alot of underground space underneath the lands between, could have been multiple volcanic eruptions that emptied the magma chambers below - would explain both the underground and the cooled rock on the towers

It's perhaps not great to bring up cut content, but the Brain of Mensis being Moon Presence is an interesting interpretation, though I will like to point out there's a cut version of Moon Presence found in the Chalice Dungeons as well. Overgrown, large, Portal 2 Potato-like roots weighing it down as it crawls around.

What do you think of the theory that the Land of Shadow was once physically connected to the Lands Between in the central sea, but got sent away? That would place the Tower of Suppression in the center of the Lands Between, and the Jagged Peak (home to many dragons) just north of Caelid. I also note that the Cathedral where Mityr is has Saint statues inside, and the lore of Mityr gives some insights to the Two Fingers in the Cathedral of Manus Celeste.

I'm binging through this otherwise exceptional series, but I think this one is very thin, wildly speculative, and incorrect. It's a fine theory, but I think it's too simplistic of a conclusion that doesn't go deep enough into the theology of a sage, and it crudely characterizes this idea as 'fascist' in a way that reminds me of modern political pundits who want to tie anything and everything back to ww2; ascribing every badism to the term 'fascism' which was actually a very specific thing that has everything to do with the life cycle of capitalism and not very much at all to do with ideology. Goldmask reminds me mostly of Protestantism, he's a modernizing force, the logical conclusion of a process of faith becoming increasingly abstract, he views these old fashioned concepts of gods with 'personalities' to be immature, old fashioned, and problematic. I think he essentially wants to cut the DEMIGODS out of the equation entirely and rewrite the divine rules to have a direct line between the congregation and god- Again, very Protestant

Interesting to watch this after the scenes of the shaman village and scadutree chalice in the DLC, with the grandmother being absorbed back into a tree, and the chalice serving as such a big waypoint despite its lack of gameplay importance. Perhaps marika, maybe all the shamans, were born as dew of the scadutree?

Woudn't the needle rather be used to kill the Haligtree, which is actually infested by Scarlet Rot ? Like Miquella abandoning his project for another solution, leaving the Albinaurics never to be born... We know the Unalloyed Gold Needle is a way of preserving oneself from Scarlet Rot, why use this specific instrument to just kill the Erdtree ?

Small icoherence about the Two Fingers wearing gloves : in fact, when flipping through very ancient tomes and such, experts actually tend to use their bare hands, having made sure to wash them properly beforehand, as the gloves might leave threads and particules, or even get some of the paper stuck on it and accidentally damage it ! I knew of the Avakum story in Russia prior to playing Elden Ring, was so surprised and excited when you highlighted the inspiration !! Great video

I get the fascist remark, collectivism will always create more chaos and harm, as humans seek to implement imperfect order. But find the prison statement puzzling. If order though natural balance is what Gold Mask seeks, then it's not a prison, he removes freewill from the gods, enforcing natural balance. Not order directed by a human like god. I do not see anything, that would make me think Gold Mask wants to remove freewill from the world, he wants to remove freewill from god. This should create order that the greater will has less influence over. But the catch 22 is that natural balance, follows nature, nature submits to the strongest. So while you remove freewill from the gods, and potentially reduce the influence of the greater will, this can leave the tarnished consort ruler, free to do as they desire. Unless Marika has the power to keep the tarnished consort in check. I suppose you are right, if Marika becomes a tool with a singular purpose, then she is more bound to the greater will, thus the greater will, will have the means to influence order, imprisoning the world. But at the same time, the order the greater will seeks to enforce, is rather simple. Marika sought war and enslavement to establish order, you can establish other forms of order, the greater will does not seem to be picky. So the tarnished will wind up controlling Marika, who is without freewill, as long as the greater will does not intervene. But for the greater will to take action, it feels like great stagnation or decay has to envelop the world. So I am back to thinking, things return to natural order, I would not call nature a prison, but if the tarnished consort follows the same path of war, or leads the world to stagnation or ruin, you kind of repeat the same cycle of errors, which leads to stagnation and decay, which can be seen as a prison. Ya know, I am like 80-90% there on the prison statement. lol

It's funny how you address that there's propaganda in the item descriptions and monologues but you still think the world just stops existing and say so 2 minutes later. 😂 As seen in the Frenzied Flame ending, apparently not all life ceases. There's still topography, still standing structures, and several living beings still operating under their own volition. So obviously, a few people lied about the true outcome of our decision.

I'd like to note something an odd connection I noticed before watching the video. The mensis scholars are mummified despited the fact we do actually hear their chanting when finding the hidden Hypogeon Gaol area earlier in the game. There is one other example of a "mummy" that we can hear but not see. The gatekeeper of the forbidden forest. Makes me wonder if the Nightmares have a sort of quantum viewing/schrodinger's cat effect where things we cannot see are neither alive nor dead until we view them.

The type of creepy that I absolutely love that the frenzied flame has is that you see someone clearly die and then you happen to bump into them again up and walking and talking with a different name and are a dead body possessed by a unknown entity.
