@@Bewithhorsespeacefulmindset Thanks. We'll have to start posting more to KZread. We don't use it that often. Spud was a very unique horse. Like you say, he was very intelligent. He was an exceptional communicator and really cared about other people and horses.

I agree. He's everything I could want in a horse: confident, curious, playful, willing...and an trusted friend. We rode in the mountains quite a bit last season and I'm proud of how well he did. We enjoy each other's company.

It's amazing how people can spend a lifetime with horses and never develop so much as an ounce of horsemanship. A lot of "horse people" with a claim to a lifetime of owning/training horses would swear on their mother's graves that horses are just stupid, naughty, and only good for hard labor. Nice to see some horsemanship for a change.

Thanks! The horse in this video is now homed with a group of folks that are now riding her in the mountains - and really love her. She's completely turned around and now trusts people enjoys her life. In our lessons and clinics we really focus on how the horse thinks, how his body works and how to communicate in a way he understands. Ultimately, everyone working with horses wants success. I find that when folks use "stupid" "naughty" "behavior problem", etc - that is stems from a lack of knowledge of the horse. Without that knowledge, horses are judged as people - which of course they are not. A little understanding opens our eyes not only to the intelligence and capability of the horse, but the depth of their heart and soul. Add a little leadership to that equation and you have horse that will trust and follow you; and you leap beyond the limitations of conventional training.
