That was strangely relaxing to watch. There's something about railroads. 🚂🚇

Have people walked through the tunnels, or is that a bad idea?
@jerryheim480410 ай бұрын
Since it is an active and often used railway, that would be a bad idea.

Was the foundation already that deep. It looked like the concrete walls was there already
@jerryheim48043 жыл бұрын
No. The walls were initially only about 4 feet deep. The company I worked with developed a method to safely extend the walls downward. In 8 foot sections of the wall they dig down to the level of the new footings and set up forms and pour concrete. They put in 8 feet of wall, skip 8 feet and so on. After those 8 foot sections have cured, they come back and dig out the alternate 8 foot sections and set up forms and pour the concrete in the remaining sections. All the dirt down to the new footings is piled in the middle-that’s why the dirt level is so high at the start of my video. There method is professionally engineered and I found it to be very safe. Around 9 years later and I don’t see any signs of our house settling or moving-no cracks.

Too bad the Cali-Zephyr doesn't stop in Missouri. The closest stop for this train from where I live is Iowa.

So the tunnel isn’t one long 6 mile long tunnel but rather a series of short tunnels, right?
@jerryheim48044 жыл бұрын
Dustin Deweerd Nope. The tunnel is one continuous 6 mile run under the continental divide.

Never been through the tunnel, but I have sat at on the continental divide and looked down at the east approach tracks.

I'm working now on re-doing my crawlspace, and I have a basement too as it was an addition..crawlspaces are nothing but trouble, don't want to ask what turning it into part of the original basement would cost but I'd do it if I was crazy enough to pump that much money into this house (and had it). I can hardly believe that was done with hand labor and not some kind of excavating equipment, they are like modern day Egyptian's :)

how much to dig out and concrete the floor with a french drain or whatever type of waterproofing?
@Moist_Carpet9 жыл бұрын
Ricky Warren You should plan on about $50 to $60/sqft which incudes everything. We put in a French drain with a sump. I haven't had any water in the sump even during the heavy Colorado rains in the past three years.
