    The only problem is the idiots that make DSM chose to eliminate the saving to a .dxf file with the release of the 6.0 update. Sadly I had purchased a CNC machine 1 month prior because I used DSM for 3d printing and found it easy to use. When I contacted support they pretty much said to purchase one of the pro versions. smh. Everything is about money these days. So...my CNC is useless....but that's ok cause I just turned around and bought a milling machine so I could continue making things for my friends. I'm probably the last person on earth who does things for people without expecting anything in return. I feel so alone!

Can you wonder why my output of DSM tutorials has substantially reduced.

    @JimTaylor42 Now that I get really familiar with the software and have a firm grasp on how to use it, they neutered the free version and made the pay version too expensive for me to afford given that I use it for hobby use anyway. Dsm 6 i presume. Here is part of a dialogue i had with dsm support: Thank you for your response, in version 5 and on backwards, projecting a circle from the face of one solid to another did, indeed, draw a circle on the target face. You could then pull this to whatever depth and subsequently change the cylinder diameter. Since I first wrote I found a workaround which quickly gets the desired behaviour, the first of the options (on the left of the screen) when about to project is 'project through solid' or words to that effect. I found that by selecting that option and then pulling the resulting circle through the target object, it behaves as version 5 and backwards used to do, ie it creates an editable cylinder. It's a process I use a lot when designing stuff with mating faces and bolt holes. A handy way of using previous parts to quickly copy hole layouts. Phil, Thanks. I'm not sure the 'project through solid' should really have made that difference, but by serendipity it has. The methods I outlines also works. He attached a screenshot, the first of the options he suggests is the solution I'd already told him about! Cheers Smithy.

    This is another, place a sketch plane on the face requiring a hole, use the sketcher 'project to sketch' and a circle is made that pulls to a cylinder.

    When the hole has been made from a projected hole or edge 'Project through solid' being selected. It that case the projection seems to be a spline, pulling a spline surface, whereas, when choosing 'Project through solid', it makes the projection a circle. Another way which Is my usual way to make a hole in a part from another part hole, is to fill a hole making a face, then pull that face through ALL faces / parts in a single pull subject to parts being active or in the active chain. I find this faster and more intuitive than the projection command.

    So the real question of how to have an annotation plane and ALSO use the constraints sketcher if that is your sketcher of choice. The only solution I can find is NOT to have them coincident - move the annotation plane away from the actual geometry plane a small amount - say 1mm. They then do not interfere with one another.

  • @JimTaylor42
    @JimTaylor4211 ай бұрын

    As I have indicated elsewhere, I have decided to dump the constraint-based method and so far there have been no problems. I have just had a reply to a ticket I raised with DSM support and it reads: ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DesignSpark Mechanical (DesignSpark) Jun 27, 2023, 01:50 GMT+1 Hello Jim. Interesting... I'll log it as a bug but I expect it won't get fixed. The best work around is to have the annotation plane off the actual part face - the Constraint sketcher doesn't like the annotation labels it seems. Or, work in the normal standard sketcher. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

  • @TAH1712

    If you want to work as in v1, v2, v4 and v5 ( standard sketcher) , File > DSM options > Advanced - General... and disable 'Enable Constraint Based Sketching' close and restart DSM. That sketcher will probably be more familiar . My advice is to not have the annotation plane coincident with Constraint sketcher - have it offset 0.1mm or more perhaps - it makes no difference for face on views and moving faces using label dims still works the same. I have tried different layers without success.

  • @JimTaylor42
    @JimTaylor4211 ай бұрын

    What puzzles me is why does it draw the first dotted line ok and not make the dims disappear but drawing the botton line does! I also tried setting DSM to non-constraint but on loading the same file it sets it back to the constraint method. Despite all this, in my view, it is still a bug in the system. I have tried the same thing on a different design and it still happens. However, only some of the dimensions disappeared and dimensions on a different Annotation plane were not affected at all. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have decided to opt for the last option i.e. work in the non-constraint mode - I don't like constraints anyway 😇 I completed my design so, so far so good.
