Smitty’s Shop

Smitty’s Shop

Smitty's Shop, professionally known as Import Enterprise, is just a little ol' auto repair shop and used car lot, established in 1995, in friendly, Saugerties N.Y. !!
What?!? You've never heard of Saugerties? Right next door to Woodstock NY, it's the Birth place of Jimmy Fallon, and has included over the years, famous residents such as Joe Sinnott (Marvel comics), The Band, (and Bob Dylan) Jim Henson (The Muppets), and KZreads own heavy equipment celeb, Andrew Camarata. Of course, there is also an eclectic mix of far lesser known people, like myself! Follow along while I share automotive repair tips and experiences, product reviews, build projects, motorcycles, trucks, and other automotive sales and repair shenanigans all from inside a working auto repair business! Sometimes I'll even throw in a guitar and equipment video just for varieties sake! Something you would like to know or see? Let me know!
And, as always, Thanks for taking the time to check out my channel!!
Smitty~

    no, a quality cheap instrument doesn't make any sense. It's either one or the other. You know what you get for 300$? A guitar that cost about 60$ to make, because if it cost any more, then it wouldn't be worth the effort to these knockoff producers

    I bought an Ace Frehely blue burst sparkle chibson on eBay. There was only one ever produced. I think Epiphone may have made some. If it wasn't for the paint job that you can't get for the price I paid or the Ace face on the headstock and the three pickups. Other than that, I would have gladly bought a Harley Benton or Fesley Les Paul style guitar. At some point soon I am going to burn into the ack of he headstock "FAKE,MADE IN CHINA." And yes, it does feel a bit icky playing it because it says Gibson on the head stock. I get the same feeling when I drive a foreign car. I am also going to cover the Gibson on the headstock, probably just put "Frehely" over it. Other than that, it's a beautiful guitar and easy to play. The overall quality is very good. Ball end frets and large sized pots. I'm not trying to justify why I bought a chibson, just stating the reason why I did, if that makes sense.

My family can sell my guitars 2 Real Gibson LP's Classic 60's, 1 Gibson Supreme, 1 Fender US Strat, 1 Fender US Telecaster. My family can easily sell all these guitars for the price I paid (or more), even at used condition, mine are excellent condition well taken care of. (as current new prices are $600-$1000 higher) And your family... has firewood. Nuf said? @28mmRPG Actually, I have several Fenders, one Gibson and two Danelectros in my electric collection so the resale value would be pretty high. I don't know why you're assuming I own chibsons just because I pointed out that your argument is flawed.

  • @hkguitar1984
    @hkguitar1984Ай бұрын

    @@28mmRPG I totally see your point, however everything isn't about money. The guitars I had commissioned through Ali Express are of higher quality than most Epiphones I've played. So I took a well built $350 Chinese husk and I installed $650 of Gibson hardware and electronics. I ended up with a really nice looking, playing and sounding Les Paul R9 copy. Its fun to play and when I travel I can leave my Custom Gibson Les Paul safely at home. Will my Son consider the Chibson he and I built together just firewood, I doubt it. Like I said before, to each their own. I can see and appreciate your point without projecting that onto others or criticizing others actions or different direction. How someone else spends their money is their business. Playing guitar is kind of like riding a bicycle, you don't have to be Lance Armstrong to enjoy it. And so to with the level and quality of equipment or instruments. Also, when your family looses you, the last thing they will care about is what your worldly goods are worth, they will only wish that you were still here with them. Gibson, Chibson, Fender or Squier, just play them and enjoy, we are all in it for the same enjoyment. Also, the main reason I chose a Chibson to modify is due to them having a real lacquer finish, that was why I first investigated the Chibson idea, real lacquer finish. All my guitars have them. I've been playing guitar since 1974, a poly finished Fender after 20 years looks like ass....just saying 👍 😉

  • @hkguitar1984

    Epiphone pickup mounting rigs too. The Epiphone/import rings are larger than the Gibson rings. Being that the import pickup mounting rings are larger you can't use the Gibson rings because they won't cover the screw mounting holes from the import rings. When ordering one of these Chinese guitars ask that they leave the pickups unmounted so that you can mount real Gibson pickup rings. I also have them leave the bridge and stop bar tailpiece off and locate and mount those myself, this allows my to install an actual ABR-1 bridge using the vintage mounting design. Same could be done for the truss rod cover. Once you notice things like the size of the pickup rings, the bridge type and truss rod covers, you can't un-see them, after that they stand out like a sore thumb when you do see them. I've a few Chibson's I built over the years, I can only speak to my experience, and over all its been positive. Both of my Chibson's feel, look and sound better than any Epiphone I've played, I just order the finished husk and mount all Gibson hardware and electronics. I had a lot of fun building them up, and after 5 years they still play great. Only down side to these imports are the soft fret wire used, still though, after a leveling, crowning and polish they hold up as well as any Epiphone.

    Great video Smitty! I have a 2012 Outback 2.5i Premium and my CVT started slipping about 2-1/2 to 3 years ago at about 133K and it is now at 155K. I have been driving in M (manual) with the paddle shifters since it started slipping and that eliminates the slipping since that takes it out of the "constantly variable" mode and I notice that if I drive it in Manual for 20 or so miles and when the transmission is good and warm then I can slide it into automatic D (drive) and it doesn't slip. I've been driving it for 22K miles that way with only an occasional slip in higher gear position, 4th and above, when it's still cold. I have no clue about these CVT things or how they work and you obviously do and I can't get any real answers in the NASIOC forum, some of those guys in there can be real tools, but I was wondering if what I have going on is just a faulty valve body and the whole CVT doesn't need to be replaced? That would be an easy fix LOL! Wishful thinking right? I know these 2012's have CVT issues and SOA was offering rebates way back when the issue started but I am way past that. Thanks again and regards, Rick
