Surprisingly folksy work, touches of Kamarinskaya in the finale. Better than the usual Anton fare. 🙂
The theme around 15 min. is simply otherworldly to me. The whole concerto feels to be on par with any of the usual repertoire of the 'great' violin concertos and the also lesser-known but also outstanding concerto by the other half-forgotten Hungarian composer, Goldmark Károly (in HU). It simply boggles the mind why more famous or successful violinists don't put these brillant gems on concert stages.
Does anyone know what year this piece was composed? I can't find that information anywhere.
The Quintet was one of the first Spohr pieces I ever heard, and it's still a favorite of mine. I don't understand how anyone who's heard it can consider Spohr a mediocre composer.
Beautifil concerto! Thanks for shate!
first listen, fine work reminds me of Bruch.... think Brahms was also a fan of FG music
A great symphonic work of a trans-national European romantic musical era where conservatories functioned better than factories and barracks...
Belated Thanks, Prof. Levee......from Mexico!
這首好音樂/演奏者/不負創作者所托!演出一流一的水凖!未聽過的快些聽聽!保証聽出耳油!
Remarkable
But in the picture is Horatio Parker......
My bad. It's the moustache. They all had a moustache.
Hey...are you any relation to Pierre, the conductor?
@@JAMESLEVEE No, I'm Chinese. Cao is also a Chinese surname that is pronounced tsao. Once I thought Pierre was a French-Chinese, too😂
@@hyperaticism it doesn't help that I don't know if he pronounced it tsao or cow.
@@JAMESLEVEE My guess is his surname is of Portuguese origin and is pronounced like Kang or something
Rather good! Thanks for posting!
The Adagio is worthy of Schubert/Brahms....I must re-hear often....Very beautiful and profound, Thank you.....I discern that you have profited mightily from Iswä & Catawba influences......
Many thanks!
@@JAMESLEVEE -- My pleasure....Always.
😊meget bra musikk
An enjoyable concerto. Sort of a Brahms Lite. I think his symphonies have a bit more punch. A composer worthy of the time to explore.
Beethoven amo sus conciertos...

James, Could you re-upload Spain-Dunk's the Farmer Boy's Overture here on youtube? The one you uploaded on Bit-chute is now unplayable.
I'm afraid not. I get after them to upgrade my Bitchute uploads, but they've stopped responding, and my computer is in storage. It may be degraded by now.
@@JAMESLEVEE Ok…… Thank you all the same
@JAMESLEVEE Oh, by the way, can you still upload with other devices? Did you still retain that Piatti Cello Concerti disc? I'm curious about the Concertino that is the coupling of the second one you had uploaded.
@@hyperaticism sorry, but the CD collection is also in storage.
@@JAMESLEVEE alright
excellent upload. thank you.
Thank you for this nice upload.
Perfect song to remember the beat to the hands and lips when doing CPR
His music displays what my father called the inner movement of parts.
He was a Bach scholar.
Thanks for the upload! It's hard to believe that such a prolific, accomplished composer could be overlooked for so long. Despite the clear Brucknerian influences, it was actually her teacher, Reger, who had the biggest influence on her work. I had the pleasure of listening to her recently recorded clarinet quintet & viola works - very captivating pieces indeed. Hopefully, more of her oeuvre (particularly the symphonies) will be explored & recorded in the near future.
ΕΞΑΙΡΕΤΙΚΟ ΕΡΓΟ
Majestueuse symphonie!
When was this recorded ? Thank you.
The original recording was made in 1989 and released on Koch- Schwann.
Written at the high point of Viennese Modernism in 1909, conservative only in relation to Schoenberg’s circle, the sensuality of the ecstatic rhythms, the passion of the dynamics and harmony, and the intensity of the extended climax of the last movement makes this ambitious quartet quite literally some of the sexiest music ever

Glinka Miguel Ivanovich
OK. What about him?
tchaikowsky + brahms concerto
It's a trial run for her 2nd, too.
I can say Hummel's piano concertos are better than SOME (NOT ALL OF THEM) Beethoven's.
It's a matter of taste and what you consider a concerto ought to be. I disagree, but only because I prefer symphonic rather than soloistic styles. That said, I consider Hummel's concertos equally worthy to Beethoven's, for what they are. And this one is the most Beethovenian of the lot.
@@JAMESLEVEE Hmm.
It's interesting to look at the construction of the first movement and see how Brahms constructed the first movement of his 1st Piano Concerto. The rhapsodic nature of the thematic distribution between solo and tutti brings to mind a linkage between the 22nd Piano Concerto of Mozart (Hummel's teacher), through this one, and on to Brahms.
@@JAMESLEVEE We can see that in Chopin's piano concertos too.
@@fazliddinerkaboyev6568 actually, Chopin's piano concertos are way more conservative than this concerto in construction (he actually modeled the first movement of his E minor concerto on the corresponding movement of the 1st Concerto of Kalkbrenner, who prided himself on his self-styled "Classicism".) Chopin's innovations were more in the realm of tonal structure than thematic layout, and his solo/tutti relationships are highly soloistic, far moreso than Hummel's. The only concerto I can think of that is as soloistic as those of Chopin that he could have used as a model is Moscheles' 4th, of 1823.
Es admirable poder escuchar la obra completa de una mujer, con toda una orquesta sinfónica, cuando al discriminación de género era pan de todos los días.
Hansheinz Schneeberger plays brilliantly with a beautiful tone!
Right. Great. What a very nice and impressive cello concerto. Thank you for the upload.
This is gold!

F ing ads ruin great music...and for what?!
best name😂😂
Sehr vielversprechend.
Why have I to get 81, listened whole my life to classic music and than discover a marvellous composer whose name I never heard? Not my fault but scandalous
The Larghetto is magical. It touches something deep inside me, and is infinitely beautiful. I want to hear it again and again....
It's one of the great slow movements in the literature.
Очень красивый концерт и открыт новый композитор спасибо ❤
The 3rd movement begins 22:14 ("Lichtelfen und Reifriesen (Intermezzo): Allegro Moderato")
Thanks for pointing that out. There was a typo. I'll fix it when Im back from my dog walk. P.S. done!
Nice to see a picture of her smiling (barely) for a change. Price (who I'd never even heard of until about 2 yrs ago) is now one of my absolute all-time favorite composers.💖💖💖💖 And this is not just because I'm Black. Because I'm not, I'm White.
I find her schmaltzy and sentimental. Also Who cares about what color you are.
좋은 연주 잘 들었습니다. 고맙습니다.^^
I'm gradually discovering this composer and this is another pretty work, despite the tonality quite uplifting, thanks for sharing.
I always thought there might be a Bruckner 10th lurking somewhere....
Great 3rd movement, interesting 4th movement, listenable 1st movement. Thanks for sharing this unknown composer. Kind regards, MSM
