Blue Rodeo played at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto about every three weeks when I worked as a waitress there in the 80's. When this song came on, all the waitresses put their trays down and listened to/sang the song. I remember the night they got signed to a record deal. They came back to the bar while we were cleaning up. They didn't look too sure of what they had done and Greg Keelor even said "Now you can buy us like Heinz ketchup". I know plenty of musicians, (me one of them) who never got signed, so I was shocked. But everything turned out fine for them and this song is still a classic. ❤❤❤

What do you think of Canada 🇨🇦 Ruling today that it is more than okay to stab a child to death? What do you think of that being called the act of an upstanding citizen?

So my mom died last month and today I was thinking it hasn't hit me yet. I just pulled up this video. I had no idea the music video was about death. I'll never be able to listen to this again without losing my breath.

Lyrics: Hey, it's me, what a big surprise Calling you up from a restaurant 'round the bend Just got in from way up North I'm achin' and tired now, and I could use a friend I might be a fool To think that you do wanna see me again I know it's been a while since I talk to you Nothing wrong, just nothing ever goes as planned Many times I thought I'd call But didn't have your number in my hand I know it's true You'd never do the same thing to me I never meant to make you cry And though I know I shouldn't call It just reminds us of the cost of everything we've lost Bad timing, that's all And maybe soon there'll come a day When no more tears will fall We each forgive a little bit, and we both look back on it It's just bad timing, that's all Used to have so many plans Something always seemed to turn out wrong Never could catch up to you Moving on and doing all you've done Well, I don't know why Harder I try, the harder it comes I never meant to make you cry And though I know I shouldn't call It just reminds us of the cost of everything we've lost Bad timing, that's all And maybe soon there'll come a day When no more tears will fall We each forgive a little bit, and we both look back on it It's just bad timing, that's all We each forgive a little bit, and we both look back on it It's just bad timing, that's all

The song really gives the nod to The Doors, doesn't it? And Greg Keelor sounds a bit like John Lennon.

This is undoubtedly one of the best songs ever written. It just grabs your soul and won't let go. I can happily sing along to this song, cry to it, or just let it flow over me as I listen quietly. It's never the same song twice (I kinda ripped off one of their lyrics there inadvertently, didn't I?)
