Hello! I used Grajales Expeditions who are probably the biggest operator of climbs on the mountain and have very good facilities. Whether you use them or not I would highly recommend watching their video on gear for Aconcagua, available on youtube, and they have a number of other informative videos as well on their channel.

Base camp was higher than Mont Blanc summit. I worry about avalanche risk for many South American peaks.

Sorry for the delayed response! At around 6400m, when we had lost a guide and half of the clients, one of the guides asked everyone who was left whether they were going to reach the summit. I answered honestly, saying that that I didn't know as we still had 500m to go which I knew would the hardest part. They didn't seem to like that answer as they became worried that I might turn back and they would lose a guide, so they strongly encouraged me to go back down... it was quite frustrating as I still had ample energy at that time but I have some understanding of why they did what they did.
