Andhei: Love seeing another of your road adventures through Harris County! This one would have been better if you had waited to point out Gessner Road until you got to the actual roadway. I have noticed that the subtitles tend to jump the gun like when the parking lot where you started the video was referred to as Gessner Road. Another thing that has me perplexed . . . the road construction on FM 1960 from Texas 249 east to Haynes Road . . . for what reason is it being done? Also, it really would help if it were easier to visually discern the names of the cross streets so that it becomes possible to follow along on a map.

Andhei: Many salutations!! Glad to see you posting more of that nostalgic Harris County road travel content! I am a bit anguished because I am sure that I would have loved living in Harris County if my parents had actually trained me how to safely operate a motor vehicle and had not been so stubborn about their advocacy for tertiary education in lieu of the people skills necessary to prosecute office politics/dexterous customer service, how/when to negotiate, financial literacy . . . basically how to be a responsible adult. Bexar County has declared the matter of my employment as a cost-prohibitive DOA non-starter ever since May 2001, I have been unjustly chased out of three apartments (one of those twice!), I have been barred from visiting my niece because of my brother's ex-wife rejecting me, I have several creditors mad at me because I cannot pay them what they want . . . yeah, my life is a mess. The silver lining is that I have successfully driven motor vehicles without imperiling myself or anybody else. But back to the video. I have noticed in several of your videos that you like driving up and down Stuebner Airline Road quite a bit. Any particular reason for that? Along those lines, what exactly is a "Stuebner"? I would also like to know what the thought process was behind the roadway names "Stuebner Airline" and "Spring Stuebner". . . . Andhei . . . as I typed earlier, I was not allowed to freely explore around Harris County; as such, I am at times thrown for a loop when trying to determine your travel path. Would it be possible for you to append a subtitle indicating cardinal direction? Along those same lines, it would also help if the major cross streets were pointed out -- exempli gratia, Stuebner Airline Road @ Louetta Road, Louetta Road @ Kuykendaul Road; those green on white street signs are difficult to read at distance!

Andhei: Many salutations!! I am of immense gratitude for this road trip adventure video; still, as I am watching it, I got really worried and frightened from a safety standpoint. I myself am an adventuresome guy and I think that exploring around downtown Houston (along with its highway network) is an absolute blast; still, I am not reckless. The fact that it is at night, the fact that it is raining to where there is water pooled on the roadway, and the bright headlamps availed by the other motorists (are those really low-beams?!? You really had me fooled that they were high-beams!!) along with their tail-lamps and brake lights making it dangerously difficult to visually appraise their proximity along with all of that motor traffic in general all add up in my mind to "stay yo' butt home!!" -- or at least "this is NOT the time to be randomly exploring around downtown; we need to get home ASAP before we get caught up in some urban freaky-deeky". This is a good video; still, the video content does raise some personal safety concerns and road safety concerns. I am also of Generation X, Andhei; I vividly remember when the rudimentary forms of common technology like the Global Positioning System navigation was becoming mainstream. GPS navigation does have moments where it comes in handy; still, the border between us exploiting the technology and the technology exploiting us is of a precarious thickness that we as a society need to do some very deep introspection and have a very earnest heart-to-heart conversation about how to reinforce it against fiascoes like in this video. When you diverged toward the highway access ramp to northbound United States 59, were you able to keep accelerating up the ramp to a smooth highway entry? (Shakes head no), you ran into a bovine funeral procession. Moreover, that bovine funeral procession made no attempt to avail the egress ramp toward southbound Texas 288. Did you ever wonder why that was? Did you ever ask your GPS about the traffic conditions of southbound Texas 288 along with Loop 610 and the interchange thereof? Okay, so availing the Texas 288 divergent terminus is a necessity . . . only to find a bovine funeral procession diverging toward northbound IH-45 -- but not toward southbound IH-45 where the vehicles were flying by. Here again, did you ever wonder why that was? Did you ever ask your GPS about the traffic conditions of southbound IH--45 along with Loop 610 and the interchange thereof? Has your GPS ever remarked about all of the traffic congestion around you? Oh, wait . . . it CANNOT execute that initiative! The good news is that you can -- and in this case, should -- do so. If you had turned south on Texas 288 or IH-45 and availed Loop 610 to circle back toward your part of town, this video would have been amazing while only taking 30 to 45 minutes total duration. I understand the proclivity of establishing a comfort zone; still, for the sake of personal growth, that comfort zone needs to be constantly expanded.

Andhei tejon: Many salutations! It is so good to see another of your video recorded Harris County road adventures -- especially where at least one highway is involved. The end destination of this video is not familiar to me so some context would be nice. I have my trepidations about this leap of faith which comes across to me as bad road engineering. Even though you took your time merging toward that access ramp as the traffic conditions allow, this is not good roadmanship. It would have been of prudence -- and greater safety -- for you to have bypassed the Cypresswood Drive entrance in favor of the Hollowtree Lane access ramp just north of FM 1,960 because there is more time for you to merge over. Ideally, I would rather have turned north on Holtzwarth Road and then east toward the southbound I-45 frontage road where I would work my way closer to the inside periphery wherein I would cross Cypresswood Drive using the semi-dedicated left turn lane prior to availing that access ramp. In contrast, <a href "kzread.infoUgkxD-NUIIR1XPqbkXN2itECCp8xrdG8I8e0?si=fopsinRMXoRVC4SK">this highway egress is BAD BAD BAD ROADMANSHIP!!! What happened here? Did you forget your planned route or intended destination? Andhei . . . my mom constantly admonished me about the six Ps "prior planning prevents piss-poor performance". You have successfully turned west onto anti-clockwise Sam Houston Tollway from southbound I-45 at least once without it being a fiasco like this; in order to pull that off, you had to have known which lanes from southbound I-45 avail the interchange and which lanes bypass the interchange. This is the human fallibility inherent to global positioning satellite navigation; even though Google Maps has satellite photos of highway interchanges around the United States, it cannot read your mind as to which interchange you plan to avail. This is why I make it my business to avail Google Maps to research what all approaches of an unfamiliar highway interchange look like so that I can start configuring myself to avail -- or bypass -- the interchange at least two miles out. Another flaw of GPS navigation . . . it blinds you to the fact that there do exist alternative routes; in this particular case, I am referring to Loop 610 which is nine miles further south. That fact along with the fact that IH-45 and US-59 do intersect in downtown Houston drives home my conviction that there was no reason for you to have endangered yourself -- or anyone else -- with that haphazard egress you did in this video. Along those same lines, I am not sure if it is the video equipment you are using or what; still, it seems that you are driving rather slow relative to the traffic around you on the highway to where there were motorists passing you on the right hand side. Are you doing like 50 mph while everybody's doing 65 or 70? Please bear in mind that the police can just as readily challenge you for driving too slowly as they can for you driving too fast. Postscript: I hope that you come to realize that my criticism is from a place of love. I want to see more Harris County road adventures from you in the future.

Many salutations!!! Your video is a nice adventure of the Houston highway network. I myself would love to explore it for fun; still, I have to first solve the problem of not possessing a motor vehicle. You had the opportunity to turn south on Texas 288 and then again on IH-45; considering the awful rush hour traffic, why did you not turn south at either of the aforementioned opportunities and then circle around via Loop 610 instead of trying to thread yourself through that traffic? You would have been on your way a bit faster.

Many salutations!!! Your videos provide a potent fix of Harris County nostalgia that helps me keep up my spirits since I am trapped here in Bexar County because I do not have access to a motor vehicle; if it is not immediately obvious, I grew up in Harris County @ TX. It was not a picnic by any stretch of the imagination because my Baby Boomer parents not only chose a house far to the north of the METRO service network but also jealously repelled me away from the helm of a motor vehicle because they believed that my incompetence would pose a genocidal hazard to anybody in the vicinity. What my parents do not realize is that their refusal to properly train me how to operate a motor vehicle along with building an employment and credit history ultimately works to their detriment because geriatric care costs a lot of money. Medical emergencies have cost people their very homes as have property taxes; if it were yours truly in that boat, I would want to have some child relatives that are potent participants in the community macro-economy versus a child relative that requires government assistance for residential overhead and groceries. It has been the case for several decades that tertiary education has ruined more lives than it has built because of how student loans are dispersed . . . I would love for my parents to have seen the light and practiced far different family government that emphasizes workforce participation; unfortunately, that is not the case and all of my decisions must operate in that lens. . . . As for this video: I am not so sure about the wisdom of this leap of faith. It does not strike me as particularly wise -- especially when there is another entry ramp further downstream; if it were yours truly, I would not have done this. However, this highway entry . . . NO BUENO, compadre!!! The noun "highway" has a certain significance; by executing a highway entry, you are affirming your comprehension and participation of that significance. From what I saw of the other motor traffic, I hypothesize a homeostasis of 70-85 mph; considering how lightly trafficked I-45 was and the ideal weather conditions, you had plenty of space ahead of you and were in no danger of colliding with anything so I am not clear about why you were driving so slowly. If the correct kind of police officer had seen you driving like this, he would intercept you into an awkward conversation with a traffic court judge about how hazardous it is to drive slower than the general traffic flow. Please understand that this criticism is not to denigrate you as a person but to emphasize my concern for your safety from a place of love. In the time period of 2 min 08 secs to 7 min, I counted SIXTEEN vehicles passing you on the right -- and four of them moved into your lane after overtaking you. The message there is quite clear: YOU ARE DRIVING TOO SLOWLY. Amending my point in the previous paragraph, there are motorists that do not proactively plan their trips. I have seen motorists leap across entire carriageways in an attempt to make an egress and endanger everybody in the vicinity because they lack situational awareness and did no prior planning; while you have not made that mistake; I am puzzled why you seemed to not know that you were in the semi-dedicated egress lane for the Sam Houston Tollway. A few minutes on Google Maps would have made that clear to you -- along with that there was no need for you to switch over to the dedicated egress lane if you had intended to avail that interchange. Once again, I am loving the Harris County nostalgia and I hope that you will come to realize my criticism is from a place of love.
