    @@jenienjaian LitRPG, or literary role-playing game, is a subgenre of fiction that combines computer RPG conventions with science-fiction and fantasy novels. In a LitRPG novel, games or game-like challenges are a central part of the story, which may take place in a virtual reality RPG, or the world itself may be the game. The story may also follow characters both inside and outside of the game world, and some characters may be aware that they are playing a game. For example, the main character might be a wizard in Dungeons and Dragons, a space pirate in an MMORPG, or a zombie in a survival horror RPG.

    I’m new to your channel and I understand you were caught off guard but gosh your negativity and constant complaints in this video was a lot and it turned me off from subscribing. We all have our days but idk how you edited and uploaded this without considering just how negative you were coming off. Also very elitist.

  • @jenienjaian
    @jenienjaian8 ай бұрын

    Thank you for coming by and for leaving a comment. I’m so sorry that I came off negative to you. I was really annoyed that they got rid of children’s and middle grade and did mention that several times although I tried to keep myself from mentioning it more. The only other negative thing that I said that I can remember would be disappointment for reading Fourth Wing. I did not say it in this video, but I am not a reader that enjoys romance and otherwise would not have picked up this book. I apologize for not making that clear. As far as being elitist, would you be willing to tell me what came across to you as elitist? I want to stay as far away from this as possible and if I engage in it unknowingly, I want learn and do better.

  • @nikki2442
    @nikki24428 ай бұрын

    @@jenienjaian i appreciate you taking the time out of your day to respond and for doing so in a very calm and receptive way. I think the elitism vibe came from multiple comments and I’ll explain some of them…from as you said, the comment about having had read fourth wing for nothing which you repeated more than twice maybe three times in the video, came off as very privileged. There are a lot of people who can’t afford to read multiple books a year, especially new releases as popular as fourth wing. A lot of people can only read what they thrift or what is available in public libraries after long waitlists. There are so many people who could not afford to get their hands on that book since it was out of stock for awhile and again not everyone can afford an e reader or to purchase e books…not to mention the countless countries and locations that it wasn’t even printed in because the residents are considered too poor to market to. Therefore your reaction sad conclusion that since you read this book only because you thought it was going to be on goodreads list and because it’s not it’s now considered a major waste to you was just icky. Reading is fun and educational and shouldn’t be just for stats. It left a really bad taste in my mouth that you couldn’t just be like well at least I enjoyed the book or that I was even privileged enough to have had access to the book at all. The fact that you can afford to read books that you clearly had no real interest in is amazing but instead of seeing it that way you just straight complained and complained and like girl…people are dying. Secondly, you did offend me when you skipped over romance and said who cares about romance. Romance readers are still readers. It is was very unfortunate that in our community we promote this behavior that values readers of certain genres over others and trust me there’s deep rooted elitism in that as well since romance books are typically cheaper than other books and sometimes all some people can afford to read. I could go deeper into these issues but I think you get the point.

  • @jenienjaian
    @jenienjaian8 ай бұрын

    @@nikki2442thank you so much for taking the time to reply! It really helps me understand where you’re coming from. You make a few points that I wholeheartedly agree with and have made similar points myself but did not think about when recording this video. First, I did not realize that I said “who cares about romance,” I absolutely do not believe that. What I meant to say is that I do not prefer romance books and do not know enough about those books to make any sort of comment about an individual book. I am so sorry for how I worded that. You are absolutely right that many people enjoy romance. I think it might be one of the most popular genres! Again, I apologize. Two, thank you so much for explaining how I came across as elitist. I definitely see it now. I do have a tendency to repeat myself and get stuck on a certain point which can emphasize that point more than I mean to. Something I did not talk about in the video is how I source a majority of my books, including 4th wing. I am an avid user of the library and had the privilege of being able to check the audiobook out for 4th wing. I made comments on last year’s video about being upset that so many of the books on the now-defunct middle grade list were not even at my library which meant that so many kids could not even access them. I should have talked about that again this year but I failed to prepare adequately for my reaction video and spoke off the cuff. Again, thank you so much for taking the time to engage with me. This video has gone viral (for me!) and it is quite an adjustment!
