Ok thank you I did!
Are the snake skins help keep water from following the line/the hammock is attached to the tree? My daughter’s birthday is coming and that one thing she wants.
Snake skins are essentially a fancy stuff sacks. What you are looking for is a Drip Strip which attaches to the Trunk Strap to divert water from the hammock.
Do you sell them?
@@pm5574 We do but are currently out. You can buy from their website. eaglesnestoutfittersinc.com/products/drip-strips
I thought you weren't supposed to secure to the roof rails... Only to the J Hooks??🤔
Athough the J saddles have a way to do so, we beleive that the crossbars are more secure. We do not recommend to attach to the roof rails.
Like others I rewatch this video every year before we head out. I would like to see better instructions on the bow line tie down. When tieing down the bow of the kayak it is zoomed in too tight and and can't figure out what of the lines you are putting the trucker's loop in. I eventuall figure it out thru trial and error, but I would like to see where all 3 pieces of vertical line are. TY
I just drove 200 miles over two mountain passes carrying two Pelican 10' kayaks. Turns out I did everything perfectly wrong.
Well, now you know. Glad you are safe.
The back straps on the Harmony suck.
This dude kinda sounds and looks like Tom Segura
Nice video for learning how to ADJUST a kayak seat. I am looking more for details (hardware etc.) for INSTALLING the pad eyes that are necessary for adding the seat to a sit-on kayak that doesn't have the necessary harware.
I joke, but good info and tips😎
you literally said to stay away from sinch straps😅
My go to video for my annual initial kayak trip!
Legend. Thanks for the video. Exactly what i was looking for.
Good video. Why not just loop the line through the hood loop? Isn't the hook an extra piece you don't need?
I don’t even own a yak or a rack or a car. Still love watching this
the instructions that came with our kayak rack made no sense. even the pictures didn't help. This made it so simple and understandable. thanks
So helpful, thank you
How would you secure a second kayak( no sup)?
Another J saddle on the other side would do the trick. Or a Thule stacker or Yakima BigStackwhich is a set of verticle post accessories to allow the loading of two boats.
Solid presentation thanks for not being a self-loving blabbermout.... The reason I don't do videos because that's what I am
I don’t care what anyone says I’m using ratchet straps. I just simply throw it on the crossbars and strap er down. It won’t go anywhere. Yes it’s important not to go too tight but if you do it upside down it’s really not putting much pressure anywhere on the kayak.
perfect calm explanation even twisting the tie downs to prevent the wobbling in the wind - nice!!
Don't use the ramp for tying down, go all the way around the roof rails. They are not made for tension, just a ramp to load the kayaks. Right from the thule video
Absolutely!
God bless you for this video
I have tow hooks in the front and rear of my jeep. Could I use tie down straps instead of a bowline?
It’s not important what kind of strap is used for the bowline. Although a flat strap can have some vibration so give it a twist.
Thanks Bill, from Australia.
Excellent video. You took the time to show every single little detail. Perfect. Thank you
Was hoping to learn how to install the hardware😢
Well, you're the 1st one that stowed away your straps the right way.
Thank you. Not our first rodeo.
Thanks for helping with a good video . ❤
Perfect
2:15 Centre of kayak is actually where the seat is located if you don't have side handles tying to the top bend of the J cradle bar puts torque on the plastic bracing the sits on the roof rack. You are basically strapping the kayak on one side only, pulling the top of the J cradle against the rooftop cross bar. This can cause failure as all the pressure is on the plastic shoe or brace and this can come apart from the crossbar. I had a very dangerous situation where the cradle fell apart and almost lost the kayak on the highway. Dangerous especially for other vehicles. Twists in straps also become concentrated pressure points on your kayak or paddle board -- recommend flat.
Oh yes that bow line is extremely important. One of mine and my siblings first times out kayaking we didn't tie a bow line. Both kayaks slid from under their cinch straps and off the back off my car in the m8ddle of town. We're lucky it didn't cause a wreck or ruin our kayaks... we also used a bow line after that.
Glad to hear no harm done. Happy Adventures.
I wish you would explain those loops under the hood - are they tied in there? Are they little bungies? if not what are they? How are they attached? Thanks for the video!! Very clear and helpful
Loops under the hood are attached to a secure point which varies by make and model of vehicle. They are utility cord which has minimal stretch. It is best to avoid tying to points that could cut through the cord or places which are plastic that could break. When not in use, the cords can be tucked under the hood. I hope this helps you with this one point that lacked clarity. Happy Adventures!
This video changed my life. I’ve struggled for months trying to tie my kayak up & I just avoid it & never take it out. But it’s so easy! Thank you!
Thanks for this
How long should the bow/stern line be? Trying to cut a length of rope to make one.
Length is determined by size of boat/SUP and vehicle. Most bow/stern line kits are adequate for most situations. Remember that the bow/stern line doesn't need to be tight. The purpose of them is to counter lift.
VERY WELL DONE.
What kind of an urban madhouse was this recorded in ? Sirens, horns, non-stop traffic.....glad I am a Colorado kid.
US Highway 19 is very busy, but you don't have to go far to get the quiet of nature.
I use quick loops to eliminate tying under the hood and trunk or tailgate.
Thanks for this 👌
You're welcome 👍
Good Video. I don't like any ropes with metal hooks tying down the bow and stern, as they can scratch your car and boat,. Just use a normal rope with a trucker's hitch. Both bow and stern lines should always be used.
Would this hold going 75?
Tied correctly on a rack in good condition is good for highway speeds.
The job isnt finished untill you tie the bow back to the tow hitch to stop the yaks flying forward under emergency braking. We do everytime.
Great hint about twisting the tie down straps to prevent vibrations 👍👍👍
Just put a matress on the roof 🤣 thats what you get for being Satanists and Dajjaal worshippers
You safe my life. Thank you thank you thank you.
You are welcome.
Thank You!
Not sure if you are Canadian or American but either way I just love how you look after your things I also love how you use the right product for its correct use To top it all off I have loaded trailers roof racks etc etc all my life and today I must admit I learnt something so thanks for that I appreciate I am probably a year or two too late but what the heck never to late to say thanks is it ???
Thank you Allan. We are in Florida, USA. This video has received many comments over the years. While driving the roads, one can see many people who should watch this video.
Do you need to add a Bow Line on the back of the car??
It is recommended, but sometimes (particularly in the case of a SUP) there's nothing from which to tie. This is why SUP's are placed stern forward as they always have a leash attachment point. This avoids the dynamic of lift as you drive down the highway. The rear attachment to the car counters forward/upward momentum in the event of an accident.
Thanks a lot, greeting from Greece. I'm going to try sea fish with a kayak
Is the bow line supposed to be that loose or was it just a demonstration
Good question. The purpose of the bowline is to counter upward lift of the kayak or SUP on the rack. It should not be slack, but does not have to be tight. I'd say just enough so it doesn't wiggle in the wind as you drive down the road.
