VLA (VERY LARGE ARRAY)
So much time and resources wasted just to listen to static from space. And yet they won't even bother to read The Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ, which is filled with great treasures of knowledge!
I'm amazed that people will waste their lives listening to space static, yet they won't even bother to read The Book of Mormon - Another Testament of Jesus Christ, which is filled with great treasures of knowledge!
I went to NMT while they were building the VLA, and have been on the back-stage your 4 times. I had a girlfriend whos father was the Site Manager when they were building the VLA. This is a great use of tax money. Also, there is a laser on Magdalena Ridge Observatory Interferometer that is reflected back from the VLA to measure the expansion/contraction of the Earth. Basically, you can watch the Earth "breath".
I wonder if Mars will have the same wacky climate change alarmist😢...these folks hate thier country they hate thier skin and now they will hate another planet...hahaha to funny
Thanks!
Thank you for this!
Looks like the name of one of those beasts has been changed. The first one built back around 1976 was originally called "Hein's Trein" - named for then NRAO Associate Director Hein Hvatum.
Dont trust Hillary.
Nice. shared. Pearlman YeC 450 LY distant means we are seeing it from light that not long after Columbus sailed the blue in 5784-450= about 5334 years after the universe transitioned from hyper-dense to mature size, density and gravitational bound equilibrium. Start study at SPIRAL cosmological model, Pearlman vs Hubble, and HTP hypotheses on ResearchGate.
Great description! Thank you. When I use to live in El Paso, I loved going up to the VLA to shot some timelapse of the antennae as they pointed at different spots in the sky. There's something special about that high plain location. So isolated and serene, yet very high-tech.
The first three verses of Surah Tariq describe pulsars and their sound.
i think that knocker need to have very fast hands like speed of sound :/
I am glad to see that Reliance DC Motor-Brake-Tach assemblies are still being used after all these years. I was hired by Electrospace Systems in 1974 to help develop the Control Systems for these VLA antennas. This project kept me busy for several years doing the field installation of the Antenna Control Systems for these antennas.
I think this could have been accomplished using standard railroad track-switching. Each wheel-truck individually steered to accommodate the variation in turning radius between track pairs (equivalent function to rear differential in a car). So the transporter would be switched off the main line onto the spur and go under the dish at an acute angle. The dish bases would have to be rotated in reference to the acute angle of the spur track-pair, so as to maintain the current orientation to the transporter. Once the dish is on the transporter, it would simply back out and be switched back onto the main line. A drawing would be good here, but this is text only. If there's a good reason why they must use the right angle switch, I'd like to hear it. I doubt the configuration with the shortest distance between dishes would preclude what I'm suggesting here.

This is more or less an impedance matching device? However I am not sure to understand how you separate the E and H fields since the antenna hits the antenna at random angles....

Bellatrix is also the Star they taught maybe they had landed on in the 1960's movie The planet of the apes. " It could be Bellatrix" .
Large array dish is in ottawa
The radio scopes are all connected so they can use the scopes logically as a single scope.

Man I thought my kitchen blender was better than that. Nutribullet... neutronbullet more like!
I was a young child in Green Bank when this happened. I watched it being erected and will never forget it! My father Warren Tyler was the lead scientist on the interferometer project that was the design for the VLA in NM. Amazing! I drew pictures as a child of this telescope. I was mesmerized!

Did he say 15 or 50 Kelvin? When I lived in Magdalena in the late 70's and early 80's the rumor was the receiver units were cooled to 10 degrees Kelvin. That is really cold, but so is 15 or 50 degrees Kelvin.
Does it emit out from the star? Or is it like lightning and goes toward the star’s surface?
A lot of that dust must start to clump up in the gravitational dance between it and the gas.
A beautiful bubbling soup of stars.
I like the bread, raisin, and yeast analogy. I might actually be able to teach my old, religious mom about the Big Bang now.
I don't think planets need stars to form. Some definitely do form around stars, but I think we're about to find out that a bunch form directly in the nebula.
So fascinating!
Galaxy bar's, what a rip off , come on Galaxy put the chocolate back in 😠
Now it's getting chilly. This is wery bad for my asthma.

I have slight broad band envy 🙂
They want to rename them cause the guy owned slaves... last I checked most races had slaves and did the same things. So...
Did you just try to justify slavery?
@louiswebtser No matter what he meant, they don't need to be renamed.
The "ThunderboltsProject". your welcome.
Ok so why don't we use this for Jupiter?
They found the Sanduleak -69 202 neutron star within, with both radio and X-rays telescopes, although that's too bad it's gonna be until 2040s to 2060s that Sanduleak -69 202 will be finally seen in its afterlife, which there's a stipulation that it's one of the freshest neutron star ever seen, which is something that everyone were looking for, for three decades. We would be lucky if the reveal is to happen earlier.
Solar sailor would be fun
Where’s Jodi Foster?!
Where's Heywood Floyd, and Moisevitch?
The visitor center has a lot of pictures from the movie. BTY, the film people made an exact copy of the control room on a sound stage - down to scrapes, etc on the tables. - made it much easier to film.
Did you remember to wind the tape back before returning it? 🙂 Ah, remember VHS:s and video rental?
what if the wind picks up?

Why is there no condensation on the warm side? Surely the cold, even if not touching radiates.
I've just been to this place today. Fascinating!
