Where you buy it?
I know this is an older video, but did you have to order those legs separately?
Yes I did. I can’t remember the part number. They sit fairly close to my hard top. I’ve seen lots of others that are a little higher. That makes it easier to mount or dismount roof top tents. But it does raise the vehicle center of gravity a little.
Oct 2021. Thank you
Nice to the point review. I’ve narrowed my pics to the rhino and the gobi stealth for my 2 door jk. Kinda scared to drill my color matched hardtop
I purchased the backbone system for my Jeep wrangler with this Pioneer platform.. I will say that the Product is nice but the U.S. customer service SUCKS! Upon assembly of my new rack i realized it was missing one little $2 part and they won't send it to me without charging me for it. And the funny thing is they are charging me $10 to ship it.
Shawn Dunfee oh man that is unfortunate. I haven’t had to deal with there customer service reps so I don’t have any experience there. I’ve had the rack for almost 2 years now and love it! It carries my tent great. Good luck and enjoy it!
I can not find this tent. Do you have the model number and where did you buy it? Thanks
Keith Wild I got it from CVT directly. They’re out of bend Oregon. Check out their website
What are the torque specs for the cross retaining bar bolts?
did you ever consider the AEV and or Nebo rack by teraflex? someone said the AEV is bolted to the roll bar and removing the top would be a hassle. do you have any insight?
mofo_rob I looked briefly at the AEV rack. It had great reviews and I’ve heard great things about it. The rhino rack bolts to the roll bar as well in the middle section. I can take my hard top off, but it would require me to remove the rack and mounts, probably take me a hour or so to do it myself. With another set of competent hands it would go much quicker. Hope that helps
Hey man, Did you cut the feet on the middle and front? The instructions say to cut them., I never did and my rack is offset. I emailed rhino rack and they told me I need to cut the the steel foot.
El Chapo no I didn’t. It could be because you have a different height of foot.
What size is your pioneer platform???
Great video.. I've watched other videos about this rack, but it looks like they are selling Cool Aid juice. You review appears to be an objective review. My concern was the wind noise, but you answered that question in the comments.
Nelson Sang thanks for the comment. Yea I went into the buying experience as objectively as possible. The rack has been great. No regrets.
@@jeep2roam147 I wonder if I can lift the top by the roof rack, I use a garage electrical winch to lift the top of the Jeep. That would be an added bonus
Nelson Sang that I do not have any experience with. I would imagine that it is possible. Just take it slow. It’s designed to take the weigh from the top, hence the wide stance of the feet that mount to the hard top.
If you had to do it over would you have gone with the backbone system with the quick disconnect legs ? For the added height when attaching rtt? Thanks
Alan Richard good question Alan. No I wouldn’t change my setup. I like the low profile of the rack, also I figured I’d need another set of hands anyway while mounting and removing the tent from the rack.
Did you have to drill through the slats ?
No drilling was required.
Great vid... I’m actually in El Paso too... are you still happy with the performance of this rack? I’m looking into ordering it with an rtt and was curious how it’s all working out for you
Alan Richard yes I’m very happy with the way it has worked out for me. If you’d like sometime to take a look at it, I’d be happy to meet up with you!
Jeep2roam yeah shoot me an email and I’ll get you my cell number so we can link up... [email protected]
Thinking of purchasing this rack, I was originally going for the Gobi rack, but the price and weight ratio kinda turn me off. Have you decided which kind of roof top tent?
Brandon Koay yes I purchased a CVT roof top tent. If the rack has held up great with the weight of my tent on it. The tent weighs around 160lbs static. Very happy with both products. Hope that helps!
Would be cool to see the install of this tent onto your roof rack
Stewart Cox yea that’s a good idea. It’s fairly easy once you get it on the rack. It’s a matter of tightening 8 nuts. My rack is low profile so it took some time.
Hey man, great video and love the rack! One question for you, have you noticed any extra wind noise coming from the rack at highway speeds?
monkeyreidg hey thanks for watching. Glad you liked it. No I haven’t noticed any noise from it. Granted I only had it on for a couple weeks before I put my roof top tent on it. But over all I’m really impressed with how solid it is.
Jeep2roam Nice! Just what I wanted to hear! I’ll be installing one of these racks on my jeep down the track soon for sure. Thanks for the reply and hope to see more videos coming out in the future!
monkeyreidg my pleasure. If you’re in the market for a roof top tent check out my other video! Safe Jeeping!
