a perfectly delightful quick finale theme, but he can't seem to develop it much before coming back to his heavier hand..I was much of the impression that the 2nd theme with the completely different rhythm didn't really make a good complement to the opening theme. He doesn't do that kind of thing as well as Prokofiev.

Rehearing this live Bernstein Shostakovich 6, I am truly astounded by how slowly, so glacially trudgingly, he Paces the performance. Frankly, were it not for the fact that he was a genius in so many other sectors of music, he would not be accorded his overrated status as conductor. When one considers how overly self-indulgent this interpretation is, similar to what he does with the Bruckner 9th Symphony with the same Orchestra, I believe we must re-evaluate his Legacy as a conductor !

Eugene ormandy's performance which I was fortunate enough to hear live in 1982 along with Aaron Copland Inscape was and remains a far greater interpretation

Very interesting tempo choice in the 2nd movement, decidedly slower than any other recording I know.
