  " Xia Xia" is one of the hardest for new speakers to get right, specially the second part which is without tone. you don't do a good job slowing it down.

  Another thought. It would be useful to learn something about Mandarin tone inflections. While in China my Chinese colleague tried to teach me the meaning of "Shanghai" (which I believe means "above the sea"). But I had difficulty repeating it because apparently the "shang" part can mean "above" or something else depending on how you "tone" it. I think a lot of Western people have problems with this because we don't use tones, except to maybe indicate a question.

  I came very late to this, but I enjoyed this lesson. I hope to find more of them. The style makes it easy to learn, and your literal translation of words helps the phrases stick in my mind. I have been to China three times and enjoyed every trip. I'm retired now but I found Mandarin an fascinating language so it seems a nice thing to try and learn some as an old age project. Xièxiè nǐ, xiànzài zàijiàn (helped a lot by Google Translate 🙂)
