A bicycle isn't just a thing, and riding a bicycle isn't just something you do. It is a mindset and a lifestyle, a completely different way of being. You either "get it", or you don't.

More cynical comments than I had expected. I hope these guys succeed. Local bike shops need to reinvent themselves in an age when they find it hard to compete with on-line retailers.

seems like one of those urban community bike centers with a ton of random old/used parts. It'll be hard to keep a bike shop going without new parts and bikes going through the door. How many used axles and banged up rims do you need to sell in a month to pay fixed costs? It's a great idea but it needs to be a registered charity or publicly supported operation (with tax dollars) to be viable in the long term, much like a soup kitchen.

We'll build you a custom bike based on what movies you watch that will be assembled with off the shelf parts and charge you exorbitant prices. what a joke.
@CRacer19958 жыл бұрын
+flaminrota not everyone who wants a custom bicycle has the tools (which cost money, too) and know-how to build one. sure they look like hipsters and ride fixies, but so what? watch again and see what the customers brought in: doesn't seem like they turn down normal commuter customers. if they make people ride more, i don't care if they've got a moustache or not! and if you add up the cost of buying an off the shelf bike and modifying it (or let someone do so), you might as well get a custom bike in the first place. just my 2 cents as someone who taught himself how to build bikes. if it wasn't for shops like that (i know some local shops like that), there would be less people riding, learning wrenching, etc. because they speak to a different customer range. theres a diy bike shop, a used bike shop, a normal one, a boutique road bike one, a mtb shop, a bmx shop in town where i live...i dont like em all ond wouldn't buy in all but fuck genres, they all make people ride.

Lots of respect for trying, but I can tell just from the fact that you are both wearing cycling caps while not cycling that you won't last. Your business is built on passion, and that's great, but it will be your downfall.

Sounds like a bike shop that "get's it" - bicycling in the city, especially commuting, isn't about buying an overly expensive bike and a bunch of unnecessary clothing. It's about getting out there and pedalling.
