First try I won but I forgot to save and made a mistake later on so I had to redo it. I had to redo it 3 times because he died or nightsong did. I was no he can’t die. I felt so bad for him because he wanted to be a wizard so bad.

How do you get to this point? I'm trying to trigger it on my Bard run and about to enter Act II, do you need to have the Shadowheart confession first? or the Astarion confession? Or does it not matter?

for this specific conversation, you need to trigger the astarion confession first. so you could go to moonrise and speak to araj oblodra with astarion in the party. that's the fastest way to trigger his confession scene and if you don't end his romance, next morning shadowheart will have this dialogue.

So this is the situation...Astarion is my friend and I've been trying to convince him to not go ahead with the ritual...the thing is, I took him to fight cazador and once we defeat him he asks me for help with the ritual, i give him help thinking that he will do the right thing...he doesn't. I end up killing cazador to stop him, Astarion fights me and he dies. Load up save, i tell him i won't help him, he kills cazador and leaves all the spawn to their fate, he tells me to kms and then he leaves...🥲 NOW, this is what I'm gonna do, I'll just leave him at camp 😭 sorry champ we can't always get everything we want... (I like him and i wanted him to kill cazador but i prefer he is temporarily mad at me than have him dead or wishing me death)

Why are people so obsessed with saving him? His entire character arc is coming into his own person and making his own decisions. He literally stands up against one of his abusers and defies both him and Cazador's will. I just don't really get why you would want to undo all that growth? Just to feel like you are coming to his rescue? He's not a child. He's very capable. They did a really good job with this scene. I wish he'd least comment on it after, but the option to "rescue" would be a blow to his character arc.

If you steer slightly out of line with him he does break up with you over it too. I’m not saying people who have trauma are unloveable but I’m not sure it’s imperative to his story and growth to need a romantic partner.

any class can cast it if you have a scroll of detect thoughts in your inventory or mind reading potion or you can equip the amulet 'uncovered mysteries' (you can loot that in the arcane tower in the underdark) but scrolls are probably the easiest to find

Even after patches 3 act still s_cks) Because of this gaps. No reaction after kidnapping....NO REACTION OF ASTARION??? it's just impossible. like nothing happened. Just... casual chit chat after a small ... unpleasant case)

I am so ragefully protective of him that I did 2 runs so far and each time I slaughtered anyone coming for him lol… never even considered the idea of losing against these spawn or getting him captured. I’d just savescum and try again until it works. But it’s interesting that his story can go on and it’s not an automatic halt for it. Wish there was a line for after you rescue him at Cazador’s palace though. I suppose that’ll be fixed with patches, going further on.

This almost makes me regret ascending. I think I will have to do 2 runs now with my first Tav I’m glad I have a save right before going in and talking to the spawn and fighting. I just have to redo most of act 3. ( I did Casador pretty early it was within the first 3rd of the things to do in act three I did . The second thing I did upon hitting lower city , Lorokhan came first simply because I went to sundree to stock up and well encountered the bastard so we killed him with Aylin.

I was very careful with my party attacks when using AOE. Also Cazador was primary target and died by his second turn lmao. Kinda ruined cutscene for myself due to my Tav and Halsin both using sunlight becuase it auto began combat.

This is a first for me. I'm always so adamant about destroying the spawn when they come for Astarion in camp. I've said this every day this past week and I'll say it again.. You learn something new every day

In this run I let him die at every opportunity. (I am doing a replay to get that rare achievement.) So I am not sure if this scene is caused by the multiple deaths or just the first death in the first chapter. (He was shot by Daniel in my game, so not even death by falling.)
