Nice and simple recipe, one thing I will definitely recommend is always bake the bottom crust layer first in the oven while you're making the filling! Otherwise it just tends to sort of end up soggy on the bottom crust layer

The trick is to give him two options at a time, both nutritional. Illusion of choice, I guess!
I think it’s a good idea to let kids be involved in the process. We talk about the importance of protein and vegetables. And I think doing this will help them make better choices on their own and be more open to trying new things if it’s their idea. It’s hard to show in a 1 minute clip but he picked a good protein with some fat and two vegetables. Baked carrots and homemade gnocchi (hard pairing potatoes and tomato sauce) All things considered I think it’s pretty balanced.
@@colleenschofield2050 Fried red meat and fried carrot (not baked as you said). As I say, why wouldn’t you let a five year old pick what they eat and decide if it is nutritionally balanced? Sometimes parents should parent.
Yes he asked for fried carrots. Hard to show what I did instead. I boiled to cook the carrots and then baked in the oven with seasoning. Highly recommend trying :) similar to smash potatoes
we are a family of three as well, I normally spend $275/week. I saw a well rounded mix of convenience and fresh veggies, but my big question would be, what about meat? I know you eat meat because i saw meatballs and pepperoni and sausage, but like why didn't you buy any chicken or ground beef?
I tend to do a big meat stock up at Costco or butcherbox once quarter. But if I see a good sale I’ll stock up. We are working through our freezer to clean it out so we haven’t bought much lately. Come April we’ll have to do a big meat shopping trip.

Put your mixture into a quart bag ,cut a small hole in the corner and fill shells .Even do deviled eggs that way ,a lot of things.

If you cook your meat at a higher temperature, the oil and excess moisture will evaporate off and you’ll caramelise the meat more and get a better flavour

It's one of my favorite ways to cook carrots. it's sweet and I add a little red pepper flakes for some heat

I worked at a Chinese restaurant for years freeze the beef then slice it frozen and you can easily slice it super thin against the grain easier thats pretty thick
