    Love my P3ESR XDs they are a speaker I will keep till the end of my time. They are in my second system and I’m often stopped in awe of the beauty they exhibit. There is something so human about them.

    I think the original HL P3Es speakers have better projection - they sound slightly brighter than the P4ERS - and for me give a better vocal rendition than the than the P4ERS- I prefer the HL P3ES- thanks for sharing the, video loved the Ondara tune

    I have just finished a long session with my superb Celestion SL6 speakers owned from new......I don't know whether I could stand either of these speakers for a long listen. That might be just the recording but they both sounded very aggressive to me

    The S400s are not at all bad and may be more versatile. But I would rather have the P3s and mate them with a good subwoofer to match or exceed the bass of the S400s. The S400s reproduction of vocals does not even come close to the Harbeths. Therre is a fullness and richness to the vocals on the Harbeths . There is an organicity to the sound in general that sounded to me more like real music. In comparison, vocals on the S400s sounded a bit cold and sterile. The only track that I thought sounded slightly better on the S400s was the last rock track, since the Harbeths were lacking in bass and dynamics. When I heard the track on the Harbeths, it sounded very congested but it was not much better on the S400s. Most of the congestion was coming from the recording, which is very compressed. We should keep in mind that the Harbeths will cost you almost a thousand dollars more in the U.S. but they are made in the U.K. while the S400s are made in China.I am not knocking the S400s and they may be a good choice for some listeners. But I am always skeptical of products that seem to be the latest darlings of the audio press. Good alternatives would be the NHT C3 and a few models from Ascend Acoustics (made in the U.S.). With a subwoofer, these speakers would be roughly equivalent to the Buchardts in price and performance.

    The Harbeths do sound a bit shrill in the midband to me. The voices are overaccentuated, too etched, but there's no bass. The 15 ohm LS3/5A does the same disappearing trick but the bass hump gives an impression of lower end authority.

    I'm hearing these through my Spendor Classic 2/3's and the Buchardt sounds sweeter - more prominent in the high end and the tracking of notes and passages across the frequency spread is much superior to the Evo 4.2. But, if you listen to a lot of piano music, my Evo 4.2's sound better than my Spendor's at 1/5th the price. Its not a jack of all trades but a master of one for sure.

    A fair and useful comparison would be Buchardt S400 vs Harbeth C7ES-3 XD (or the M30.2 XD at the very least). The P3ESR is a completely different kind of speaker. It's like comparing oranges to apples and if one doesn't have possibility of listening to both, it does not give a real metric of how good is one or the other in their own realm....

  • @sleme1972
    @sleme1972 Жыл бұрын

    The review was based on price point and size. In fact the current version of the P3esr costs more than the S400. The C7 is a much bigger box. Both C7 and M30.2 cost much more than the S400.

  • @p.r.8049
    @p.r.8049 Жыл бұрын

    @@sleme1972 But the S400 is significantly bigger than the P3ESR too! The volume of the P3ESR is 10 litres, the Buchardt is 18 litres. That's almost 2x the size. Moreover, the two bass alignments are different with the little speaker having the sealed box. I suggested the C7 because you have them too. But I agree, the C7 is too good and way above the S400. However, price is never a good primary criterion unless there is big difference like 10K vs 1K. But few hundreds or even 2x is not GENERALLY a good parameter in my experience.

    Hi Thanks for the nice video. Glad to discover a fellow Malaysian hifi kaki. I disagree about the comments that the P3ESR cannot rock. I own a P3ESR driven by Naim Nait XS in a small 10 X 15 feet room and it definitely rocks! Naim/Harbeth is a match made in heaven. I do use a JBL subwoofer though. The P3ESR definitely sounds clearer to me than S400 in your comparison

    Harbeth has no chance against Buchardt. Comparing individual disciplines makes no sense. What matters is the musicality, authenticity, emotion, rhythm and credibility of a stage. The Harbeth has no chance

    Yes, absolutely. I have used the P3esr with 30w per channel and it is still great. Doesnt need a lot of power for it to sing. The S400 on the other hand, I find that it needs more to make it sing.

    P3esr sounds more real tonally. I would keep the p3esr over the hlp3. The hlp3 had more emphasis on the higher midrange frequencies which just made it sound slightly off to me.

    I have to agree with this, there’s significantly more sense of “full Range” from the ESR. Now whether that deviates from the 3/5A intention I can’t comment on, but the ESR produces the notes of the double bass, the p3 doesn’t.
