As a kid Worzel scared me when he changed his heads and he was bullied horribly by Aunt Sally so you had to warm to him. Aunt Sally was much meaner then I remembered re-watching them now. She took every advantage of him and only made exceptions of friendship when it meant she could get something out of him which was sad because Worzel was in love with her which was a really cruel indifference from Aunt Sally as Worzel wasn't smart enough to think any deeper than his feelings. The two characters were so well done it was always a believable and flawless a performance. Great memories that can't be beaten.

I'm only 17, and my mum and aunties were about 10-17 when Worzel was on TV. They were lucky enough to be extras in some of the episodes, because they lived in the area and were in the church choir. I spent many hours sitting with my mum and brother watching the episodes again and again. Each time my mum would point out herself, her sisters and other extras from the village who she is still friends with now. She can be seen standing to the left of Jon and Sue in the opening scene of 'a cup of tea and a slice of cake'. Worzel is so valuable in my life, and I hope that generations to come will get the same joy from it that my mum, aunties, my brother and myself get.

I've shown my three young children this magical tv show with Worzel, Aunt Sally and the two children. This was a fabulous hit in the seventies. All my kids adored this show, even though Worzel wasn't always PC by today's standards and neither was aunt Sally. I doubt whether the show would be aired on British children's tv. I recall in one episode Worzel shouting out to some men that were fishing 'wankers' - this can be found on KZread. You would obviously not see this funny episode today. Regardless of this the show was brilliant and the recent ressurection sadly doesn't stand tall next to Pertwee's brilliant actings skills.

To be fair, Mackenzie is not looking to recreate what Jon Pertwee did with the character. Nor should he. His is a more 'olde worlde magick and mysterie' take on Worzel. Not having read the original book, I couldn't say which is closer to it, but does that really matter. Just enjoy.
