    I bought a a pair of nearly entry level ribbons tweeters Fountek Neo CD3.0 which have been sitting in the cupboard for five years or so, finally got them out and much prefer them overall to CSS Audio LD25X soft dome tweeters, which are far from cheap and definitely good.

    I wanted some reference speakers for my speaker building hobby. Wanted to rent some speakers for one day. No such thing! Can rent TVs and a lot of other electronic stuff, but NOT hifi! So I had to buy lesser speakers for 2 gŕand. I wanted to hire 20 grand speakers for a grand. 😅 No such thing, and that's why I clicked on this video. 😅

    The great thing about external crossovers other than tweak convenience is that there is more internal capacity in the box. Especially handy with bookshelf speakers.

    Pass labs mono blocks with audio research ls28 or even better ref 6 are fantastic. For some reason pass labs preamps are not as good as their amps.

    Very interesting. Only one thing I am a bit concerned on the comparison with a Meishu Tonmeister. I listened to the meishu Konzermeister at an AN dealer recently and it was a very boring listening moment. I wished the OTO SE can make better music.

    Nice review. Just auditioning an Oyaide neo now YES it does improve, it does make the sound more analog and more human. USB cables should not make a difference but they do And thus extract more $$ from us.

    I was the owner of the Marten Django XL, Django L and Oscar Trio. Now I listen to the Bird 1 in my main room and to the Miles 5 in a second room. Every speaker sounds different. I only hear digital music via a Lumin network player. My power amplifier for the Bird 1 speakers is a Japanese LEBEN tube amplifier. I can confirm that the Bird 1 with the diamond tweeter is probably one of the best speakers that I have ever heard. Unfortunately the Danish factory of the diamond tweeter does not produce the tweeter for the Bird 1 anymore. An original tweeter for the Bird 1 is hard to get. But the tweeters for the Bird 2 are still being produced and can be used as a pair for the Bird 1 as well. Thank you very much for this excellent rewiew!

    I'm not snobby, but i have the 15 pre and 200s power. I've had kids and had it stored at a friend. Maybe i need to get a monocle and a turtleneck, so i can listen to it properly when i get it set up.. Metallica the black album is almost best metal record ever made (not a fan of the music, as a gatekeeper of this genre of music), i listen to a lot of metal and production goes from poor to i dunno bad/passable, and a lot of rock and metal is always a mediocre experience sadly. MIT cables are not gonna be in my system, and my combo is not high tier in the Spectral hierarki either!

    My Marten Birds are driven by a LEBEN CS-1000P tube power amplifier and they sound superb. Unfortunately the tweeters of the Bird 1 are not being produced anymore. If someone has got a spare tweeter Jantzen Audio Denmark JDT-1024 I would like to buy it as a reserve. Please give me a note here, thank you. Thank you Larry for your excellent reviews.

    I have the XR50s driven by an MA-252 and there is definitely a synergy between them. Deep, tight & fast bass for something so small. My setup is at one end of a 12x45 double wide with hardwood floors. Im very pleased and this gear will be around when I'm gone. I believe McIntosh speakers need to be driven with McIntosh power. Just my opinion.

    You know what's funny is i sorta got into being an audiophile just recently . A few yrs now and I've spent probably more Money than I should ever spend but oh well . I'm hooked now .I've had a few high end headphones which I've enjoyed . I've given my Brother a few nice ones and go to after a couple of thousand dollar headphones I've had I keep going back to my AKG's K 361 wired . . It's a 100 dollar champion and found a great companion app and this headphone kills it .I listen to rock roll metal LOUD and these things are amazing . They scale well and can handle eq not too much of a Soundstage but imaging detail retrieval is amazing with these things. Build quality is what it is but these I always go back to listening to them . Thanks for your input and I know there's some dinosaurs out there and I'd like to find a gems here n there . Happy listening

    I want my headphones to be flat. I do not want the headphones to introduce distortion. But then, some people still think vinyl is 'better' because of all the distortion, the lack of dynamics and raised noise floor 'feels' 'warm'. Bullshit is bullshit.

    I use the Duelund 12 ga 600vdc for speaker cables, there is anything unnatural or forced I can hear. To me they are very transparent, and the fastest speaker cable I’ve ever used. The tonal balance is the best so far but a little on the dark side. I can’t compare it with original oil/cotton based Duelunds but I’ve tried several Supra’s (they were also OK cables) Mogami, Belden, Audioquest, Anti-cable, Van den Hul and I liked the Duelunds the best, Supra tinned, close second. Of course there are better cables, but for which price? The only bad thing I can say is Duelunds are more system dependent then any cable I’ve tried, and they need time…

    Where I live, a "normal" house is a million dollars so the Nordost cables don't come close. I have Audio Note power cords and the change in sound was barely noticeable whereas the Nordost cords were night and day, being very lively and more forward which I prefer on my ribbon hybrid speakers which are a little laid back. Nordost also now has the Holoplug that they developed. I do agree that the pricing is a bit much. Cheers from Canada.

Currently I am happy with my Lavardin (little known brand in the USA), while waiting for better. Excellent video.

    I use JCAT Reference USB and the difference between regular USB is as if you had a new DAC. Power and data go through separate cables. The DAC simply creates a completely different analog signal from undamaged packet data. I have been using it for three years.

    Proac speakers require top end audio gear to sound their best. They have always been that way. Remember garbage in garbage out. I own a pair of d20r speakers and the new bass/mid driver and ribbon tweeter are a revelation.

    You did not hear a well-made open baffle, Spatial audio designs, Clayton Shaw, I have been in this hobby for 40 years and they sound better than many I've owned and love Electrostatic ESL Quad speakers these are the only speakers I could live with. But to each his own, but what you're saying does not match what I hear in my home. You also talk of 50K speakers, really, this opinion makes no sense to me because it does not match what I've heard, my one audiophile friend said when he heard them these make music sound like a direct mic feed of the performance. Classical music comes alive as well as blues, pop, rock, etc. They sound as good as your room and gear and that is what a good speaker should be able to perform for you.

    The electrons don't really care.

  • @jeff3575davison
    @jeff3575davison14 күн бұрын

    @@simonzinc-trumpetharris852 only if you use "time-alignment" silver solder, where the phase distortion is synchronized between each joint. other wise the electrons will all come out helter skelter and really mess up the output signal... I sell rolls @ $5,000 per foot of the proprietary blend..... but the real benefit is only realizable if you use the soldering station and specially designed solder iron tip to be able to flow that solder to avoid the DC distortion into the solder that normal soldering irons inject at a quantum level. The cost for the finely tuned instrument/tool is around $10K....albeit, it will need a power conditioner that is compatible, as most "high end" devices do not work in the needed areas of frequency distribution of the DC/AC relationships. As most can't afford it, it is available for rental at $25K per week.

    Doing everything in HiFi so you move you mental point of view trying to hear what everybody hears, that is perhaps the most fun thing to do in HiFi. I never stick to 1 point of view, I do everything and test almost most products, then get it modified to further understand it. And then yes sometimes I just listen to music. The important point is to just never assume the same point of view, but go along with the music. Itś all about the entire journey that everything in HiFi gives you. I also talk a lot about that in my books.

  • @superdougie10
    @superdougie103 ай бұрын

    Understand your straight-up points of view. It's true you can add quility with dollars, but I will tell you honestly some of the cheapest add-on gear products I have put in my system were huge jumps in performance for almost nothing being spent.
