A contralto (Italian pronunciation: [konˈtralto]) is a type of classical female singing voice whose vocal range is the lowest female voice type.[1]
The contralto's vocal range is fairly rare; similar to the mezzo-soprano, and almost identical to that of a countertenor, typically between the F below middle C (F3 in scientific pitch notation) to the second F above middle C (F5), although, at the extremes, some voices can reach the D below middle C (D3)[2] or the second B♭ above middle C (B♭5).[1] The contralto voice type is generally divided into the coloratura, lyric, and dramatic contralto.

Alto isnt a voicetype, it's a section in a choir you are correct. contralto is, and that is what we are talking about

I am convinced I am a contralto
I'm pretty sure I am too. I'm at the very least an alto, but I can go pretty low in my singing voice. I used to be upset that I couldn't hit the high notes too well, until my highschool chorus teacher pointed out that sopranos have a hard time hitting the low notes. I'm honestly a little proud to have a rare voice type. 🙂

She reminds me of Sheryl crow.... But this is a low voice? Didn't know that she sounds contralto I'm a contralto so this sounds like the type of music Im more comfortable singing
Ewa sounded like a dark toned tenor down there. She went all the way to A2. Marian only got down to a D3. Still very respectable. These notes are very low for any woman to sing. Lucky me, I'm a contralto too and l can reach these notes too and sing many popular songs in the same key as the original male singers. I am writing a book about this rare and underappreciated singing voice. It's not really talked about nearly enoughin the public sphere and it's time to change that!
I’m a high tenor and I’m barely reaching Bb2 or A2
I'm still learning about fach, but I'm definitely a full lyric soprano who can sing D3 any day, C3 most days, and A2 when I have a cold. 😂 But my voice sounds nowhere as dark as these contraltos.
A developed tenor will sound way louder and thicker down there

Yes, it was Aloha Jean. She didn't like to sing in a womanly higher register like a girl as a soul sister. She preferred to sing in a manly, deeper, lower register like a soul brother; that's why due to bipolar disorder she's been suffering from she wanted to be man singing all the low notes. That's way before Ruth Pointer from The Pointer Sisters, Tionne Watkins from TLC, Michelle Ndegeocello, the new Marianne Faithfull (1975 - present) and Tanita Tikaram.
