That my friends is what racing WAS all about and should be today. Only the Winged Sprints can equal those days.
I remember going to Riverside as a kid, my father raced motorcycles there in the 70’s. I’ll never forget the smells of the fuel. There was another raceway closer to us OCIR. Do you have any video of that track?
I don’t, sadly. I got this from movracefan
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 ok thanks for this one 🏁
@georgehorn1970 you’re welcome! You should thank movracefan tho ;)
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 this is true. Thank you #movracefan
Imagine bringing Indycars back to racing this way. The USAC pre-CART days were the best
It’s one of my favorite IndyCar eras! But mostly the mid-60s through the 80s
I know the Olympics is this year, but someone needs to tell these guys that these are car races and NOT high-jump events.
I swear I wake up the most dramatic IndyCar races on every Sunday morning
It’s a miracle that there wasn’t a fatality in every race back then! Zero safety measures!
They restarted a race after a driver was killed?! Different times.
I love the look and sound of 60's Indy cars
Those cars are beautiful - cheers.
That was one helluva wicked ass crash with the catchfence! Glad no one was hurt! Another perfect example of why racing is definitely a dangerous sport
Other than the caution inconsistency and awful NASCAR Refball that we saw take place today, it was a good race to me and I enjoyed it with the pit strategy, fuel mileage and green flag stops + some big wrecks although while I am frustrated with the finish of the race, I understand in some capacity as NASCAR didn’t want a repeat of Nashville. I’m just glad Larson got his redemption from May and hope he gets his 2nd redemption next May as well by trying the double again without the stupid ass rain getting in the damn way. Good stuff Ian! Here’s mine: kzread.info/dash/bejne/mKSesZqkdqW9isY.htmlsi=QupaLVy4YXydMpYe
At least Kyle Larson won in the car that he never got to drive at the Coke 600.
If you acted like this at the end of the race then you my friend are an ignorant asshole who will kiss Kyle larsons ass
I’m not even a Kyle Larson fan. He was one of my picks to win the race. But the main reason I was cheering (well; first reason) was because I was actually glad they ended the race after 2 attempts instead of like 3 or 4 or 5 attempts. I didn’t care who won, I wanted the race to not have a bunch of stupid manufactured chaos and endless GWC attempts. Imagine being so mad that you’re assuming something that isn’t even true and don’t know the context. Who is the real a-hole now? Stay mad.
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 ok so here’s a question for you. Do you want nascar to be consistent? If your answer is yes then them throwing the caution before the white flag would have been the right call. If you try an tell me you want consistent but then say you want them to call it in favor of a guy who should have had a penalty from the restart prior. So yeah my statement is still valid about what I saw in the video. Don’t argue one thing in comments and then say something completely different in the video. That’s why I said what I said. No hard feelings but just pointing out that your argument is invalided
@TrevorPhipps-vw6kr you know, NASCAR wouldn’t have to deal with anything like today if they were actually smart enough to get rid of the garbage gimmicks and other things that have been hurting NASCAR since the last administration. But since NASCAR is still stupid to keep their gimmicks, they’re going to continue to have problems like yesterday. But as for this one, if you want my answer, I honestly didn’t care about Preece running out of fuel and spinning, I just wanted the race to end asap already. The race had 2 attempts, unfortunately. This race shouldn’t have been extended at all. But 2 was enough. I ONLY applaud to NASCAR to let them get to the white only because there wouldn’t be more attempts. That is the only praise I will give them from that. I just wanted the race to end asap and not have 5 or more attempts and waste time and see more cars damaged. But NASCAR did this to themselves if anything since they wanna keep being like WWE and Ball Sports on wheels, pleasing the wrong crowd and ignoring pure auto racing fans like myself. It’s their fault for continuing manufactured entertainment and encouraging drivers to kill each other and drive like idiots due to their gimmicks.
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 bro that’s not on mascar. That’s on the teams an drivers. The only thing nascar did wrong was not throw the caution before the white. Period. If there are 1 2 3 4 5 overtime’s that’s on the drivers and teams not nascar. You can disagree with me all you want but that’s the true. It’s not on nascar
@TrevorPhipps-vw6kr well yeah it’s the driver’s fault for being stupid. But you know NASCAR loves their chaos and crashes to please the networks with their gimmicks. But in the end, I just care the race didn’t last as long as it should’ve. That’s all.
24:29 this was the commentary I was talking about at the end
Can Kyle Busch just leave RCR right now and go back to Joe Gibbs Racing?
🎉see Don Hall smiling during driver introduction is there any footage of 1975 ?
Not that I’m aware
Not one pass for the lead under green. That is sad. The brickyard has never had a car even close to the leader at the end of all races on the oval.
As much as I'm happy Kyle Larson got the Month of May Redemption at The Brickyard, The Finish of this race couldn't have been anymore disappointing and You can all Thank The Other Kyle (KFB) for it
Elder's crash was insane....T-shirts and leather pith helmets. You can't help but to appreciate the fearlessness of many of these post WW2 veterans. Just for giggles check out the military record of Roger Ward
Is this the last known race Héctor Rebaque ever did?
In CART, yes. In general, I don’t know
Before the rage came in, it sounded like you were more excited watching IndyCar compared to when you watch NASCAR and rightfully so. So with that being said, will you be reacting to the NASCAR races at Indy this weekend? If “No”, then it’s no surprise at this rate as I know you pretty well Ian in terms of what you like and your personal preferences as a race fan
If things go to plan, as of now, ARCA IRP, IndyCar Toronto, and Brickyard 400
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 Nice! I’ll be watching the Brickyard 400 too as I was one of those many fans who wanted it back so even if it’s 80 degrees outside, I will be holding up my end of the bargain by staying inside to watch it so tomorrow there’ll be a Preview Video going up combined with another San Antonio Spurs news update video regarding one of my current favorite players from last year’s team staying put for next season since one of em already left to go back to his original team that being the Charlotte Hornets. And come Sunday, I will be doing a Race Review Postrace
@MarkOliveras0215 never mind about ARCA, so IndyCar and Cup
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 Excellent! I’ll be tuning in to the Winston Cup one for sure!

Mustang Crash from the stands
Man what a crash
Interesting seeing the roadsters on a road course.
Were they the same cars that ran the 500?
Your guess is as good as mine. Imma assume…. No(?)
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 At some point they separated Champ dirt cars and Champ pavement cars: late 50's? Great information. I lived not far from Winchester and Anderson Speedway.
Have been there many times.
Thank you for your good work.
All credit goes to Dick Wallen Productions for making this documentary and all credit goes to movracefan for uploading it!
Wow! Never knew this track existed.
Finally.I have been waiting for to post.I was 12 when my dad and some friends went to see this. The thing about this race was rear engine cars , roadsters and old dirt cars plus Novis
My first Indy car race..5 years old. Guess I did pretty good as dad took me to Indianapolis 3 years later. I dont remember much about the race except when IIRC Parnelli got the lead..people figured the big car will back slide. When Foyt took the lead back coming off 4, the place went crazy.
Will we also be seeing Winston Cup Race Reactions tomorrow as well? Wouldn’t surprise me if we don’t
I’ll do what I can
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 Sounds like a plan!
“Winton Cup” 💀
@@spideyditko8074 It’ll always be “Winston Cup” in my book. Goes to show the younger generation how old I am
@@MarkOliveras0215 a little bit of me does wish the xfinity was called the Busch series once again. Idk it sounds cooler lol
Nice clip Ian. I really love this era of the AAA then USAC Champ Dirt Car races on the old Fair Grounds Mile Dirt! The 1950's thru the end of the 1960's is my central favorite time and Series "The USAC Championship Trail." Please keep posting any of these that you discover...Thanks, Tim
All thanks to movracefan!
Wow, oh oh
How the hell did he survive that it looked like at least 3 times he could've hit his head! Racing back then was absolutely insane
Roger McCluskey went into retirement in 1979, whereupon in his final career race start that year, he won here at Milwaukee in the 200 mile race. Seldom does a driver have a race win as a sendoff into retirement. He is also credited with assisting AJ Foyt's climb to the top of the Champ Car series in 1967. In the final race of the '67 season, the Rex Mays 300 at Riverside, Foyt was sidelined with a vehicle mishap. The unscathed Foyt ran back to the pits, where McCluskey allowed Foyt to replace him as the driver . . . as back then USAC rules allowed driver substitutions in a race, with the drivers splitting the points. Foyt finishing 5th in the Riverside race, with McCluskey's car, was enough for Foyt to be crowned the USAC champion for 1967. That 1967 USAC Champ Car season was considered one of the most closely contested seasons in memory . . .that is, until 1968. After the '68 Champ Car season, USAC changed the rules with prohibiting driver substitutions.
The 1970 USAC Champ Car season was phenomenal for Al Unser, winning 10 races in 18 starts; on paved and dirt ovals; and on a road course, too.
This steering wheel is só different?
Babe wake up! Ian Perez posted a Winston Cup Highlight Reel Reaction Video! So happy you got to see Blaney finally get himself on the board! You seemed really happy and rightfully so! And a neighbor of mine bet on Larson once the race started and it was looking good till he got taken out. Can’t say I didn’t try because I sure as hell did!
NBC > FOX
Fun Fact: Ryan Blaney has been to victory lane at Iowa Speedway in the lower series of NASCAR.
This was a good race! Glad to have NBC back and Ryan Blaney getting the win! Hope the stretch of good races you watch continues.
Ray Nichels Engineering did the prep work on Foyt's Dodge. To this day I still can't wrap my brain around seeing AJ Foyt driving a Dodge; as he was thoroughly a Ford guy in the 1960s. I've seen a comment on another KZread video saying that Foyt drove for Dodge in 1964 as his way to snub Ford; as supposedly, Ford did not deliver the Indy DOHC engine to Foyt for the 1964 Indy 500. While I realize Foyt drove the Watson Roadster for the 1964 Indy 500, he did do prior testing with a rear-engine Halibrand/Offy racer, but couldn't get it sorted to run competitively at Indy.
Good to see you still tagging along with the Reaction Videos even if it’s a little bit of a different format than usual. Will we see any for tomorrow and/or Sunday? And as for future reaction videos, when’s the next one that we’ll see that will be recorded in real time from start to finish?
I’ll try for both questions
Well, no Xfinity Iowa since I work today and the race is at 3:30
Oh and also it’s not a new format for the video, it’s only to catch up on what I missed, and then live reactions after for the video.
@@IanPerez1227_YT2 That’s what I thought. I was wondering what that was all about. Thank you for clarifying
@MarkOliveras0215 you’re welcome
0:55 I agree, one of the things I hate current KZread(I don't think it was like that.) Hell, I remember sending messages to other KZreadrs, and they gotten rid of that. And used to be able to comment on kid friendly videos(such as TV shows).
I used to do those on my early days of Racing Stories episodes, but just stopped after
Didn't go til later years but could hearem near kessler & 38th where we lived.
Sad day for motorsports but they all are when we lose a driver
If written accounts of this race were accurate, Mario Andretti accomplished his savvy driving with a two-speed gearbox, as with most of the others in the race field, the oval-track setup of the cars, along with the engine torque-curve, didn't need a four or five speed gearbox. Then, to change-out a two-speed gearbox for a four/five speed gearbox [that is, if those gearboxes were available] for one race, it wasn't worth the time, expense, and resources to do so. Considering this was the first road-race for the USAC Champ Cars, it never got the prominence as the Riverside road course did in 1967. But then, that Rex Mays 300 race was about as drama-filled as one could be. Doubtful Hollywood could have scripted a better storyline of events in that cliff-hanging race for the race winner and USAC National Champ. But, the 1968 Rex Mays 300 was another drama-filled race that determined the USAC National Champ. BTW: That brief film clip from Art Malone's viewpoint: Malone was a successful drag racer prior to racing Champ Cars.
Drivers competing for positions, and tire makers also in competition back then, too, with Foyt on Goodyears while Jones and Lloyd Ruby raced on Firestones.
I was there and the crowd was going crazy for AJ and his dirt car. The video doesn’t show how excited everyone was. Sadly this was really the end of an era.
The grandstands were full. Great drive by Joe Leonard.
1965 was the twilight year for the roadster. Everyone with the exception of Jim Hurtibise moved to year engine cars.
