Hello, my name is Peyton and I am currently attending college at Missouri S&T. I am studying electrical engineering with an emphasis in communications and electromagnetics. I am an aspiring RF engineer and I currently work for the Electromagnetics Compatability lab on campus. Really, that has been my first introduction to electronics and pcb design. Your many projects are masterful and my Amatuer Radio Club(W0EEE) admires you greatly. Where did you learn how to design high-speed, specifically HF, circuitry and layout?

Please clarify. Is the price of $57.79 the price of a single-band kit for assembly without an external case and excluding shipping costs?

Cool and looks like at STM dev board off to the right, what is its role?
@QRPLabs8 күн бұрын
It's for programming the code into the QMX+ microcontroller, for firmware development. All the STM dev boards have an "STLink2" programmer section and I'm using that connected to QMX+ for the code downloading. My QMX+ is "unlocked" so I can program it this way. All shipped QMX+ are locked, they have a bootloader and in the firmware update mode, the QMX+ appears on the PC as a USB Flash drive and you just drag in the new file.

I just finished building my QMX+ about a month ago I bought at Hamvention last May. It went well (aside from a few swear words along the way...LOL!). I'm using a fixed 5x desk mounted magnifying glass, and I have a stereo microscope on a boom mount that can be positioned to allow work on fine detail if needed. I'm getting 3 to 5 watts output depending on the band. On to the next project: 2 QMX mini's I just ordered and received 80 - 20 and 20 - 10. It was a pleasure meeting you at Hamvention, Hans and working on these projects is a great way to escape the news circus/side show of nuttiness! Mike - ND7E

The QMX line is already extremely capable. Really lovely rigs, excellent designs, excellent value for the money. If you can work your magic and get acceptable SSB performance out of it, it will be a near unbeatable kit for QRP, dollar for dollar!

Will SSB be an add on board for existing QMX+ units or will it be an entirely new architechture? I ask because I am looking to make a purchase of one of these in the next week or so and am wondering if I should wait.
@QRPLabs19 күн бұрын
It's a firmware upgrade only, and applies to all existing QMX and QMX+. Note that the firmware for QMX and QMX+ is the same (some people missed this point).

I built my second QCX-Mini (40 meter) over the last weekend without a hitch, passed the smoke test and I didn't have to a adjust the low pass filter toroids to get maximum watts out, it was already pegging 5 watts with my 12v Bioenno battery on the Watt meter. AGC and TCXO modules installed. Now I want to build more kits :) 72 de AI5DD Joe

I just finished mine last night. I haven't tested it yet, but I applied power and it didn't let the magic smoke out so that's a win in my book. I had a moment of panic when I first powered it on and nothing happened, but I plugged it in to a PC and sure enough it showed up as a flash drive. I extracted and copied the firmware over and bam, it came to life! It's a great kit with very thorough instructions. I'll probably build another with the other bands in the future. Cheers!

Hey, I can't find it anymore but in a video I've seen you mentioned there would be a QMX 60 -> 15 and I was wondering if that'll be a thing or not? or if it's worth holding out for it? I'll be buying the 80-20 otherwise but I never plan on using 80m, 15m on the other hand is very appealing ;) Thanks for everything you're doing, and looking forward to get my hands on one of these ;) Cheers VK4ALE
