    Heyyyy, I'm back with my long-ass comments lol. I'll start with my feelings about the season as a whole. I'm overall really happy with what we got, I just have a few things I'd change about the way certain elements were done and there are some things I think were missing, but the material they gave us, I really enjoyed. I do think this will become my most rewatched season because Polin are my faves and they did an overall really good job with their story, so I'm really happy about that. Okay, so I don't mind that Eloise did the whole ultimatum thing in ep 5, esp being a former film major, screenwriters LOVE a ticking clock. I can't tell you how many times my profs were like, "give your characters a deadline" or "I like that you gave your character a deadline" lol 😂 I was a little bit like, El babe, it's her engagement party, can you give her like one more day? 😅😂 But TV show writers love maximum drama, so alright, I guess lol. The rest of the episode was great, and I enjoyed it overall haha I think we talked about this a little bit last time, so sorry if I'm sounding like a broken record, but yes, yes, yes Colin's feelings for Pen were always there and I get a little frustrated when people miss it, but I do think you're right that it's mostly people who don't like Colin who miss it b/c they don't care as much about his story as we obviously do lol, so like I totally get it, but also, the "What a barb!" scene in season one? The tension in that moment? This man TOOK HER BY THE HAND AND TOOK HER TO A PRIVATE ROOM AND CLOSED THE DOOR in 2x08 and when she says he's "astonishing" afterwards, he has never looked more thrilled in his life. Omg and when he says, his interest in the mines was sparked after seeing her "exquisite necklace" and she's like, "Was it?" he does this little smile and he's so pleased with himself, I'm just like this little dummy is so in love and he doesn't even know it and I think it's because he just can't distinguish when platonic love became romantic love. Like until he kisses her and he has that lightbulb moment, that love is such a natural extension of how he already felt about her, that it just doesn't hit him until SHE initiates a romantic moment between them. He's already behaved in a very un-platonic way towards her up until that moment, but he's doing it unconsciously and it takes her switching up the dynamic for him to realize, oh I'm fully in love with my best friend 🥹🥹 I love them so much 😭 I loved their first time so much. It's so beautiful, it's so tender and it's so them. It's like a perfect encapsulation of their relationship in an intimate scene and the scene after that when they're just laying together and talking, I loved getting to see the intimacy after the intimacy. I'm with you on Cressida. It's almost like they hit reset on her character or something lol. I hadn't noticed it before you pointed it out, but I was disappointed about how she figured out about Lady Whistledown because there were so many clues for her to pick up on and just because she's not a wordsmith like Pen, doesn't mean she isn't smart and unobservant b/c you're right, she did notice something was going on with Polin before anyone else (besides Violet) did. I wanted her to notice the look Pen and Eloise shared when Cressida was about to announce that she was Whistledown, I wanted her to catch on to what Eloise said about someone being lonely enough to write Whistledown and put the pieces together herself, instead she just conveniently found someone who worked for the printer Pen uses and gave her all the information she needed to know. I agree with you, this show needs more episodes per season. They try to fit too much in 8 eps and Jess Brownell has talked about how hard it is to fit everything into eight episodes and that's why they'd never do two of the siblings' love stories in one season, so I'm like, y'all can't push for a couple more episodes? This is Netflix's biggest show, ik this show is big budget, but I think Netflix can invest in a couple more episodes. As much as each season is about one main couple, this is still an ensemble show and I wouldn't take any of the ensemble stuff away, but it's just too much to get through in not enough time. And I really wanted more of a fully fleshed out arc for Prudank this season. Prior to the season, Bessie Carter said something about how Prudence isn't used to physical affection, so Harry's affection towards her is pretty overwhelming and I thought we were gonna watch their relationship develop more over the course of the season, but we only got a little bit of that. We didn't have time for more, so I get it, but it feels like a missed opportunity. I feel like Eloise and Benedict's characters just keep going in circles. This season had the potential for a lot more much needed growth from Eloise, but it almost feels like they're trying to save it all for her season and they don't need to. There's enough room for her to learn and grow before her season, it's not like they'll run out of stuff for her to do in her season. We get some growth, but not as much as I was hoping for. Benedict I'm truly so bummed about because, he mentioned at the beginning of this season that he felt like he had no purpose now that Anthony's back. In season two, it was so interesting how he and Colin were struggling with very similar issues, but they both felt like the other had everything figured out, when they didn't. I was hoping they'd explore that more with Benedict this season and that seeing Colin find all of the answers he was looking for would bring him to his low point to hopefully set him up for season four. I'm glad he's finally confirmed to be pansexual, I'm so happy about that, but there was a point where a lot of things were happening with the Whistledown stuff and they kept cutting to him, Lady Tilly and her friend who's name I forget lol and I was like, we get it, he's fucking, that's not what's important right now. When the stakes are high, it's a really weird pacing choice to cut to the same exact scene over and over. And you're right about that conversation with that guy about the arts, that could've been Ben's path back towards the arts, or to at least grapple with his impostor syndrome a little bit. I haven't read Much Ado About Nothing, but (1) I'm tempted to now and (2) I love this idea of bringing in those elements for Ben's season. I'm really excited about Francesca's storyline now, but it is looking like I'm gonna have to read WHWW and put my film school brain to some use and see if I can gather enough thoughts for a video on how I think they might go about adapting her story so I can fight the homophobes lol. I do think a lot of people are just completely writing off this change before they see how it's done tho and writing off Masali before they even get to know her as Michaela, which is why I'm a little bummed they revealed her at the last possible second. I get why they did it, but I'm just so excited to see what Masali brings to the character and so I selfishly wanted more than an introduction b/c now we have to wait two more years for season 4 and we don't even know yet how much she'll be in it. I love that we got to see Anthony be an absolute goof this season, Jonny Bailey's comedic timing is too good 😂 I also loved that scene where Kate's helping Colin work through his LW issues a bit before the wedding, it's such a great Kanthony moment, but it's also a great Kate and Colin moment. I want Kanthony and Polin either teaming up to be mentors to their other siblings or making it a competition of like who gives better advice lol 🤣 I fully sobbed when Yellow started playing as she was walking down the aisle. Obviously, we'd been waiting for that song all season, the fact that it played during the wedding, I was in tears both times I watched it and then just when I finally recovered from that, You Belong With Me started playing and I was sobbing again. Part of the reason I haven't been able to watch the season start to finish is because I'm not emotionally prepared for the effect that hearing those two songs back to back has on me lmao. Also, her wedding dress was beautiful 🥹 My opinions on the LW of it all are still solidifying, so you might just get a random DM from me about it once I've rewatched a few more times lol, but I'm again, overall really happy with it, but there's probably a couple things I'd have done a little differently, I just haven't quite put my finger on what that is yet. I can't believe we have to wait another two years to talk more about Bridgerton. I've really enjoyed discussing season three with you though and like I said, I may DM you randomly every now and then when more thoughts pop into my mind haha ☺

    There is a gay character in Gregory’s book. As for the other characters, maybe you’re unfamiliar with the idea of a headcanon? Also, you might be surprised to hear this, but plenty of gay people existed before the 21st century.

    I'm waiting for the other half of the season to form my full opinion, so everything is pending! One thing that bothered me a bit this season is that side-plots are romance-focused and not that interesting. There was always a nice mix of the main romance plot, Queen scheming something, Eloise conducting her investigations, someone else falling in love in the background, but I feel like little is happening this season. We have the Modriches, but so far, their arch has been rather boring. As you mentioned, Benedict is neither here nor there, Violet's relationship was barely started... I'm hoping it will get better in the second part, as those little things happening in the background are a nice set up for things happening in the next seasons that I always find myself enjoying. 12:04 - it's not only about Brigertons being supportive towards their children, it's also about them being so rich that their many offspring are completely free to do whatever they like - marry whoever they like regardless of the money their spouses bring to the table (S2 Kate had relatively little to her name and Anthony, the head of the family didn't even had to consider finances of that union, he could just do it) or choose not to marry at all. Penelope and Cressida don't have the luxury of that. THAT'S A DISCUSSION ABOUT PRIVILEDGE ELOISE

    As a former film major, it makes me so happy to hear when people in the community view adaptations as separate entities from the books. I have a whole video I'm working on discussing the adaptation process and why I wish people could see the potential in adaptations for interesting new ways of exploring the stories we love so much. I understand that we've all been burned before by shitty adaptations, but for me, the fun in adaptations like Bridgerton are that I can't predict what's going to happen next. So far, for the most part, I feel like they've done a wonderful job of staying true to the spirit of these characters and their love story. I'm with you on their approach with Benedict. The main reason I feel like he has to be S4 is because they've clearly run out of ideas for him as a side character. I'm really hoping they pull out better material for him in P2 bc wow what an anticlimactic set up for his season if not. Also, something about the way they've had Luke T doing press for this season makes me feel like they're setting him up to announce that he's next. Idk he's done an interview with Golda, they've had him with Nic, Newts and Claudia. Something about that makes me feel like he's next. I loved what you were talking about with Eloise and her character growth trajectory in the show. I think it's really interesting how Cressida is kinda challenging Eloise in a way that Pen never felt like she could. Like you were talking about, Eloise always assumed Pen felt exactly the way she did about marriage, but Pen has always wanted out from under her mother's thumb and she's always dreamed of marrying for love, she just thought it wasn't in the cards for her. I do think some of it is on Pen for not asserting herself within their friendship (but also El does tend to steamroll people lol) and I think she did that because the less El was paying attention to her, the easier it would be for her to keep her secrets about LW and her feelings for Colin. I think a big part of Pen's arc is about finding her voice outside of Whistledown and I really hope that when they do come back together, it'll be on more even footing, just like Colin needed to be knocked off the pedestal she put him on in order to begin rebuilding their relationship on even ground. When, I first saw the pilot, I immediately started shipping Peneloise bc I felt like there was some great sapphic potential there, but when I found out that Polin were endgame in the books, I was a little bummed, but still intrigued. Colin has been my favorite Bridgerton brother from the pilot and Pen has also been one of my favorite characters from the beginning. I read books 2 and 4 in the week leading up to the S2 premiere and I hated book 2, but I loved season 2 and so I knew Polin were gonna hit so hard for me in the show bc I enjoyed book 4 a lot more than the others I've read in the series. And that's how they became my favorite and most anticipated Bridgerton couple and so far, I'm just so happy with what we've seen for their story. Okay, you know what I need so bad in part 2? So, you referenced that scene in part 1 where he was like you don't really need my help and he reminds her of how they met to prove to her that she knows how to charm people because she charmed him from the moment they met *taking a pause to cry about them I love them so much* 😭😭 We have that moment in the trailer where, she's like "I can take care of myself" and he's like "What good am I to you?" and Colin has been dealing with a bit of an identity crisis this season from the very beginning. I'd love for Pen to call back that scene from part 1 and be like, I fully expected you to yell at me for making you fall off your horse bc nobody in my life up to that point had shown me any kindness and you just laughed and brushed it off and I could tease you for it bc you made me feel safe to do that. I've never needed anything from you other than for you to just be the kind person that you are. I would die. Okay, let me stop before I write an entire fanfic in your comments section lmao 😂 OMG YES! Exactly what you said about how Colin's in love with her from ep 1, he just doesn't know it yet. When they shook hands HE HELD HER HAND IN BOTH OF HIS HANDS! In ep 2, HE PUT HIS HAND ON HER BACK TO LEAD HER TO THE DRAWING ROOM! This man has never known how to be platonic with Penelope Featherington. A question that I need to know the answer to though is this: It seems like they knew each other from a much younger age in the show than they did in the books, so did show Pen know Edmund before he passed? Did she see the love that had so much of an impact on these siblings' views on what love is and did it shape hers as well? In my head canon, she knew him 🥺🥺 Also, can we talk about how emotional Violet got when she realized Colin was asking her about friendship turning into love bc of Pen? Part of what I love so much about Polin is how Violet gets to see one of her sons have the love story she had with Edmund 😭 I've fully convinced myself Kate was already pregnant before they left and they just didn't know it yet. So if we don't get a pregnancy announcement, I'll be v pissed lol. Can't wait for more ABC moments too. I'm also nervous about Colin finding out about LW and how exactly it plays out. I have to keep reminding myself that Luke and Nicola seem really happy with the season as a whole to keep myself from spiraling. Something about this aspect of their story that I do find really interesting is that, Luke talks about the flip in their dynamic in part 1 in how as Pen gains confidence, Colin loses confidence. Something I don't think they've talked about as much is that I think Colin also puts Pen on a pedestal and I think they planted the seeds for that in S2 with him always talking about how constant and loyal she is. So, Colin's knocked off Pen's pedestal when she realizes he's not a perfect person who is nothing but kind and sweet and now Pen is gonna be knocked off Colin's pedestal in a very similar way. It just adds really interesting layers to their dynamic for me and again, once they've seen each other for all their flaws and strengths, they'll be able to really build their relationship on equal footing and I think that could be such a great vehicle for growth for them as individuals as well as in their relationship and could also help give Pen the tools to heal her relationship with El? Or maybe El will help her heal her relationship with Colin or maybe somehow both? Idk lol, but I can't wait to find out. Re: Francesca's storyline...okay, so I listen to a Polin podcast and one of the hosts said something about Frohn, that I won't repeat here bc I don't wanna ruin anybody else's life, but now every time I see John on screen, I start crying. I annotated RMB before part 1 came out and I think I might have to go back through after part 2 comes out and dissect it even more. I also want to get into book binding this year, so at some point I wanna do a rebind of RMB. I'll have to watch the whole season several hundred more times before any of this tho esp since I did a reading vlog when I annotated RMB and I had to get it up before part 1 came out and it was stressful, so I need to just live with the show for a bit I think lol. Omg just when I finally think I'm done brain dumping in your comments section, I realize I haven't talked about the costumes lmao 😂 Okay, my favorite dress in part 1 is a tie between that beautiful green dress with like the velvet bodice, she looks so gorgeous in it and of course the dress she wears to the Queen's ball (aka Enchanted Pen) and I still cannot get over the fact that Enchanted Pen is Carriage Scene Pen and Enchanted Polin are Engaged Polin. My life has been made by that knowledge alone. I don't know if I'm emotionally ready for Lilac Pen in part 2, but like I'm so ready and I can't wait to see what costumes we haven't seen yet. If anybody makes it through all of this, I'm impressed because this was a lot lmao 😂 Thanks Allie for posting this today though, I needed some help getting through these last 24 hrs haha

    It’s why I’m so glad I have that perspective!! I’ve only truly been disappointed by an adaptation if on its own it’s bad lol like if it’s not going to stay true to the source material, the least it can do is be good and/or fun to watch! Yeah, I totally agree that I think Luke T. is the best bet for season 4 lead! And I’m glad for a few reasons…I truly think if they made Eloise the season 4 focus it would cause mass havoc in the fandom and that’s the LAST thing I want. Also it just makes narrative sense! Eloise doesn’t seem quite ready for romance (even with her Theo plotline from season 2) and I think it just truly is Benedict’s time. Truly the Peneloise friendship boils down to COMMUNICATION lol they were both so bad at communicating with each other. And you’re so right, I think once they do come back together it will be on more equal footing because it feels like scores are being settled at the moment. Like they needed an implosion to have a completely fresh start in their friendship. Season 1 has such a strong sapphic vibe for the two of them!! But I truly blame Julia Quinn for that because, for some reason, all of the very close-knit female friendships in the Bridgerton books give a sapphic vibe lol I talked about that a little bit in my “Reading 8 Bridgerton Books in a Week” video and some people got mad at me. But idk the sapphic vibes are too strong! But yeah, I love Polin so much and I love the way its played out within the show. I love the changes made, I love the pacing, and its really made me fall in love with them more than I had before. YES YES YES!!! I would love that call-back so much, it would feel so complete for their story and especially for Colin. He really has such a great purpose in his friendship and connection with Penelope that I don’t think he’s fully realized yet. Because for him, it seems like he’s surprised when people (even Penelope included) care about him and what he has to say/what he does. And then Penelope has needed someone in her life who will care for her unconditionally and without judgment, and they truly both complete each other in those ways. I LOVE IT. Yeah, I wonder how they’re going to handle all of that because it does kind of mess with the timeline a bit? I don’t remember if, within the show, they ever clarify when Penelope and Eloise became friends… I feel like that maybe could give that info in part 2? I have that feeling too about Kate and Anthony!! It just makes sense lol and I’m so convinced that they’re going to come back with that news so fingers crossed! Ooohh good point!! He does always seem to emphasize how “good” Penelope is and I could definitely see the LW unmasking changing or at least shifting his perspective of her. I think they’ve both idealized each other in certain ways and, while I do think Colin has kind of been knocked off his pedestal in Penelope’s mind with the ending of season 2, but it’s def time for Colin to know her in a more well-rounded and complex way. Fran’s storyline is just going to break me getting to see it play out on screen!! I need to reread her book though, especially now that I can have Hannah and Victor in my head while rereading it. I’m so impressed by people who can do book binding!! I love watching videos of people going it and I think it would be so cool to do it with RMB! Haha no worries!! I loved reading this comment and doing my best to respond to all of it. I feel like I could do a whole separate video on all of my favorite outfits and makeup/hair looks in this season, it was so much more fun and elaborate than other seasons!! I can't believe we have less than a day left to wait!!

    7:33 I’m watching this after seeing season 3 part one! IM SO HAPPY THEY DIDNT HAVE PENELOPE LOSE WEIGHT🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳 this show is taking all of the best parts of the book, and changing the problematic parts to create this MASTERPIECE. Best book to screen adaptation tbh

  • @carolineduncan6217
    @carolineduncan6217Ай бұрын

    I don’t agree with your Francesca rating. Her story is SO unconventional, even for modern romances, and it’s SOOO deep and emotional. However Eloise’s book is garbage so I do agree there🤣🤣

  • @alliewithbooks
    @alliewithbooksАй бұрын

    I def need to do a reread of her book, because I’m already enjoying her character more than I thought I would in season 3! So I’m going to chalk my initial WHWW thoughts up to mid-way Bridgerton book burnout 😅

  • @carolineduncan6217
    @carolineduncan6217Ай бұрын

    @@alliewithbooks I felt that😅 I really enjoyed my second read through of WHWW more than my first 100000%. Her story is just so complex that I missed so much the first time I read it. Now seeing John’s character hit the screen, and seeing how they are portraying both Francesca and John as neurodivergent, it’s making me love that book even more. I see bits of the neurodivergence that I missed the first time around now too. It was always kinda there and I LOVE it

  • @alliewithbooks
    @alliewithbooksАй бұрын

    I have no idea if the neurodivergence was intentional, but I love it too!! I think that’s why I’m connecting to her character so much more 😊 and John is lovely, but I can’t wait to see who they cast as Michael 👀 I’ll be veeeerrrryy intrigued.

    My fellow Aries ♈ I'm so happy you made awareness to this. I follow a makeup artist on here and she's recently expressed things that you touched on and I agree with you both. She's so bomb with her makeup, but her views now are never what they used to be and she's super consistent. This is my first video of your's I've seen EVER and I'm here to stay!!!! I enjoy long form videos, especially about books! Booktok became so boring FAST imo. My issue with book tube was it pushed the same 5 creators and even after searching high and low I still ended up at the same 5 people. Just recently I've been seeing so many new and old channels and I've definitely been back in my booktube/KZread binge era. See you at 10k 💕

    First of all, loving the slicked back braid ponytail, I'm a big fan. I read The Foxglove King last year and also really enjoyed it, totally agree the love triangle in this book was an interesting take on the trope, as someone who is skeptical/pickier about love triangles in books, I really liked it. I've heard great things about Evil Eye, I hope to get to it at some point this year esp now hearing it's a good read for character driven readers. With all the excitement of Bridgerton S3, I've been in the mood for Regency romance lately, which is usually not my thing in terms of books. I tend to prefer the genre in film/tv, but I've really been enjoying making my way through Diana Quincy's books (also a Palestinian author btw) and in April I read The Duke Gets Desperate and I loved it so much, might be my favorite I've read by her so far.

    Recently I listened to the book The Final Revival of Opal and Nev by Dawnie Walton. It is an interview style book with a band from the 70s, so that part is similar to Daisy Jones and the Six. However Opal is a black woman and Nev is a white British guy. So I appreciated the extra layer in the story. Opal is complicated. She makes bad decisions and sometimes doesn’t want to take responsibility for them, but also she was in some no win situations and trying to stay true to herself. I loved it so much that I ran out a bought a physical copy of the book after I finished listening to it. I also recently read The Bullet Swallower by Elizabeth Gonzalez James. It blamed me feel like I was back in my Latin American literature classes reading those stories that seem so epic and tragic, but still survivable. We mostly follow this guy who is a big deal in his little border town, but he goes for one big score out of town and it doesn’t work out. So now he has to wander around to make it right again. I don’t know if either of those sound good to you, but they were a couple books that I enjoyed and don’t hear talked about enough. So I like to talk about them. I hope you are finding some great May reads!

    Great video, thanks for being so open and honest. I started a Booktube channel 3 months ago with the intention of creating a fun and innovative way of reviewing vintage SF books from relatively unknown authors because it seemed like no one was talking about that old stuff which always interested me. I'm still very small, but growth has been consistent and the feedback I get is that it's because there was a niche of a niche that was unrepresented but still had a fanbase. Being so new, I can't really give advice, but finding that untapped zone of Booktube while having fun has been incredible for me. Cheers and good luck @alliewithbooks, stay honest, integrous and keep having fun and growth will continue.
