rejected synths

rejected synths

Sometimes it takes some time for Synths to become legends, sometimes they stay ignored, frowned upon or even laughed at for ever.

Sure you can pay silly money for cult gear, but you really don't have to!

Digital marketplaces everywhere are full of unloved synths that can be had for next to no money. This channel is dedicated to all the rejected synths, I've managed to pile up in the last few years. Some of them bombed right after release and soon filled bargain bins, some were popular and widely sold, but went out of fashion quickly, some are so odd, potential buyers never managed to care.

Hunting down rejected gear has become a passion, playing around with it, a source of joy. So why not share my discoveries with everyone?

    I wish Zoom would make instruments again. They were killing it for a little while, that ST-224 was a very hands-on fun sampler, poor man’s ASR-X. Really want a ST-224 mk2 with variable bitrate, 44.1khz & onboard MSR-70 FX.

    Nice synth. I've owned one for 10 years but dont use it due to menu diving. After 10 years I have no idea how the animate part works(beyond your demo part at 7:11) , I need to look into that.

    how would you classify this digital synth? its not pulse code modulation. so is it wavetable synthesis? or is it related to casio's phase distortion synthesis?

  • @rejectedsynths
    @rejectedsynths18 күн бұрын

    It's dco, so the oscillators are mostly single cycle digital waveforms. So I guess you could classify it as hybrid digital/analog

    I got the timber wolf synth for 80 quid with a stand it's a badass looking synth but it's not great it's great for basslines and 303 type stuff and g funk type riffs but that's about it I make hiphop beats so I use it for basslines and it hits really nicely the low end is really nice iv never used the rhythm wolf ...I think it would make a better sequencer to sequence another synth or keyboard with no sequencer on board ....

    Die invertierten Regler dürften durch die Zugriegel inspiriert sein, die es ja auch in vielen Italo-Hohner-Orgeln gab. Habe auch noch ein Teil dieser Serie rumstehen, dem Gottseidank nur zwei Tasterblenden fehlen. Die Lesliesimulation ahmt zwar nur einen Rotor nach, statt zwei, klingt aber trotzdem ganz gut für ein Keyboard jener Zeit. Man spürt beim Spielen definitiv, dass es eine nicht nur rein digitale Klangerzeugung ist, sondern dass da ein paar gut klingende Bauteile drinstecken. Leider wurde mit den paar Presets nicht so viel rausgeholt, wie drinsteckt. Schönes Video! Und am Ende ein Videospiel, so frech, dass das eigentlich nur Hofnarren zusteht😂

    There are 2 funny typos in the credits, but I take that as the icing on the cake of the amusing game. Already the nice ensemble effect alone is worth the little money. Does it stick to the strings or can it be applied to any sound?

    With some good FX-processing this keyboard can sound quite nice. But with a modern synth doing all the classic synths, it isn't necessary anymore to buy a seperate keyboard for these sounds.

    Never managed to get a DX7II FD (floppy disk!) to work with one of these...I've been through all the tutorials and firmwares - but it's never recognised by the DX7II. Can't be that hard to emulate whatever the DX7II is expecting to find on the end of the cable?

    I quite like the sounds of this one. They're nothing too exciting but there's some heft and atmosphere I wouldn't expect at that price point. I feel like they'd sit well in a mix and each serves a very practical function. If modded to add more real time control would be a fun device... Plus you get a free Linn Drum as a bonus! My first synth was a kawai k3 which did the digital analog hybrid thing so I have a soft spot for these kinda things

    Just bought a used HT-700 but it did not come with the power adapter. The seller said it works with batteries but this was before he sold it to me and then ghosted me. My question is, is there a specific type of battery this keyboard uses in order to power it up? Or a regular D size battery should work? Or did I just get scammed? lol

    That thing about Doom is a bit funny/sad... the POWER and LOVE of FM music was coming from Sega Genesis though :) Strees of Rage, Thunder Force, MUSHA, Shinobi 3, Contra HC, Batman & Robin, Vectorman etc. etc. As in, in those games music was created with FM in mind, and it shows. Meanwhile stuff like Doom and System Shock, yeah, they would be best on mt32 and other midi greatness
