    Who had a better charge, Cole or Winters?

  • @WillieCuz
    @WillieCuzКүн бұрын

    @@LTGRAVES Now THAT is a tough question. Winters’ was iconic, especially because of the miniseries, but he didn’t get a Medal of Honor for it. He would have got one for the action at Brécourt Manor, if there wasn’t a limit to one per division, and Cole got it first. What I think would plead the case that Winters’ was the better charge, is the fact that he stood exposed and started to solo an entire company. Going through multiple clips. Both men lead their charges and put themselves in the line of fire. And got their shots off at the enemy. Hard to say which one takes the cake, but I believe Winters’ had the most direct contact in his.

    3 year old me in Indianapolis Indiana didn’t understand… but for whatever reason I never ever forgot. After the last 20 years I’ve began to regain some more of that memory to the point to where I can tell you my entire day… 23 years later beginning to end. I personally wanted to compile a video like this and cannot express how grateful I am that this is here. I’ve always wanted to know who the civilian trapped in the cab of the fire truck was, if they got out. I’ve tried searching for other FDNY Radio transmissions aside from this one and have found very very few. This video gave me communications I’d never heard like with engine 6 and a few others. I hope you have a successful and safe career in the fire department and may God bless you too.

    Purple Heart Lane refers to a critical road in Normandy, France, officially known as Carentan Causeway, which played a significant role during World War II. It gained its nickname due to the intense and bloody fighting that took place there between American and German forces in June 1944, particularly involving the 101st Airborne Division. The battle was crucial for securing the town of Carentan, which was essential for linking the Utah and Omaha Beachheads. The name "Purple Heart Lane" reflects the heavy casualties suffered by the American troops in this strategic yet perilous area.

    Yeah, the game is pretty dated now so it might not be for you. The core basics of the game requires you to suppress the enemy and flank them. I've played it back in its heyday. It's a good game for its time, but still a bit janky. I do like the fact that you can control squads and have them do whatever you want.

    @@Publius_1787I mean technically, they didn’t surrender, they were just ambushed at the breakfast table. In the US Army records it says they were mowed down when they started to “arise” so they could have been going for their rifles. It also states they took no prisoners because “no opportunity presented itself.” But regardless there was an order for paratroopers to not take prisoners anyway because given the nature of their mission they wouldn’t be able to accommodate them. Some were taken anyway, but not many. Same as paratroopers who got stuck in trees, some Germans inflicted cruelties on them.

    The American 101st Airborne Division, particularly the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, was involved in the intense combat against German forces, including elements of the 6th Parachute Regiment. The village saw fierce fighting as the paratroopers sought to secure the area and cut off German reinforcements heading to the beaches. The battle was marked by house-to-house combat, heavy artillery bombardment, and significant casualties on both sides. The eventual capture of Saint-Côme-du-Mont by the Allies helped pave the way for the liberation of Carentan, further consolidating the Allied foothold in Normandy.
