Joe; If you start branches too low the fruit is gooing to be dragging in the mud when it is ripe!If you are starting a vase type tree start your branches at one meter or so to an outward bud! It is going to take three years to start the framework that will support the weight of a heavy crop of thinned apples! Since these trees are grafted on a dwarfing root stock they will need some type of support! You dont want your nicely shaped trees to blow over with the first big wind storm which is sure to come! One way to prevent that is to keep your trees super low but not too low! You could tie semi-permanent props on all 4 or 5 of your main scaffold branche s so the tree cannot blow over. You need to spread out your manure application ring as your tree grows taller.Your root have got to spread out to support the tree. If you keep putting the manure close to the trunk they will not want to leave! The roots will grow out as far as the tree is tall. Dont hold them back! Always watch your leaves! You cant grow apples without leaves! Learn to anticapate what is going to happen and then prevent it! Learn from experts in other countries. The weather is not the same but the principals involved are very similar! You need to learn contantly to keep ahead of insects and diseases. Good luck with your farm!

Good job bro. I like the idea of not disturbing the soil much from tilling.

Joe;You are getting your apple training partly right? Tthis type of tree needs to develop a central leader system of training your tree with several different layer of branches moving up the tre until it reaches about three meters high- This will take at least three years!! then you need to plant a three meter pole in cement to fasten your central leader to! You will need to tie or fasten the side branches horizontal-upward branches grow upward , flat branches start to develop fruit spurs! You can develop a heavy crop of fruit on these trees so you dont want it dragging in the mud or pulling your tree over!! If you are having trouble setting fruit on your trees, check the varietie that you were sold ! Some of them will not cross- pollenate with one variety but will with another. If your trees will not cross-pollenate you can plant one tree in ten by ten of a compatable variety and in good weather that will work out OK . Peaches are self- pollenating so you dont have to worry about them! You can start new peach trees by airlayering 50 centimeter long new growth and in two months you will have a new start! This will be a standard sized tree, tho, and it will grow like a demon and you will have to prune it hard and thin the fruit heavily twice a year!! Good luck with your farm!
