At the end, I was like “oooooo you got in trouble!!”. You think the attendant would’ve said something in the beginning and not when you went up the hill to go backwards. All in all, awesome ride though. I love it!

This game was rigged. When announcer says, "All that is missing is the band," a dead give-away. The 1982 Band on the Field game was resurrected. lol. 13 seconds was much worse than this....

Joe Theismann - the only network broadcaster that had the call right FROM JUMP. And he NEVER backed down from saying it was not as "obvious" a forward pass as the other two broadcasters (Mike Patrick and Paul Maguire) persisted, and for a good while (they insisting it HAD to be a forward pass.)

I watched this as it was happening, beer in hand, screaming as loud as I could, and nearly putting a hole in the floor from jumping up and down. I was horse for two days and we talked about nothing else at work for the rest of the season. Wycheck is still my hero for making that lateral, and when Kevin Dyson crossed the goal line I cried.

I have not once been able to watch this without tearing up. I was a sophomore in HS and just getting into football. Before life starts letting you down and you have endless optimism, I remember watching as my dad walked up the stairs in disgust and thinking to myself "there's still time, we can do it." KICK, CATCH, TOSS...and Dyson was off to the races! I was screaming incoherently at the top of my lungs. Touchdown! My dad comes thundering down the steps as I am losing my mind screaming "WHAT, WHAT?" "WE WON" I screamed as he starts yelling at the tv to do the replay again! Yall core memory! Fast forward 22 years and I am a season ticket holder! #TITANUP

Barring whether it was a forward pass or lateral... What on earth is Kevin Dyson doing if he knows he's supposed to be 5 yards behind the ball and it was a short kick.

If Dyson had posted behind Wychek, and the Bills were alert, the Bills might have sussed Dyson might be part of a sort of "hot potato" end of game play teams will run if they have no time for anything else, and at least one defender might have spied Dyson, and possibly ruined the lateral...especially because the Bills were probably expecting exactly that kind of play. [That's what they mean by special teams players "staying in their lanes" on punts or kickoffs.] I think Dyson was coached to "sell" that he would not be eligible to receive any initial lateral by feigning going forward, before doubling back. That's why Dyson's path to the endzone was so open...all the Bills had been committed to the Titans having flowed to one side of the field, where Wycheck then wheeled and "lateraled" (hee hee) the ball all the way across field to Dyson.

There was a lot of good teams that year like the SB winning Rams and Bucs with their mighty defense in the NFC and then the Colts w/ Manning and the 14-2 Jags in the AFC along with the Bills and Titans. So who knows.

And to think, this was an improvised variant of a special-teams trick play, with a receiver who had never practiced the play in his life, against a kick they had never practiced it against, scoring a touchdown when the plan called for out of bounds in field goal range, endearing the recently-relocated franchise to their new home and new crowd by driving home the fact that the 1999 Tennessee Titans were really, *really* Goddamn good - maybe the best team ever to lose the Super Bowl.

The raging crowd looks even bigger since a bunch of us were in the aisles leaving the game because we had finally hosted a damn playoff game and it was going to end like this? I just remember the shouting and camaraderie and how all of the strangers were now your best friends as you hugged and high-fived everyone in sight.

They do understand that - but it doesn't describe this play. That's a lateral. The angle at 2:05 shows it most clearly.
