    wow, it’s crazy. I wasn’t every JRPG has a dragon ball reference of some sort. The guys that 80s games over there really worship Akira Toriyama and I don’t blame him much respect and RIP to Akira Toriyama… good review of a great game too by the way

    Crystal Lizard spawns are tied to the amount of bosses you have killed in that given world. Every time you kill a boss it resets all the spawns in that world. The loot they drop is tied to Luck stat as well as world tendency, with Pure Black world tendency yielding better loot.

    This video randomly popped up on my feed and i love this game! Awesome job going through Floor 5. Honestly one of the most trolly floors in the game period, and i assume this is a first time playthrough, but in my most recent playthrough, i found out that you can just use the sword of light as an item for free BOLT 3 casts, on top of that, it NEVER breaks and saves MP fairly well, best of all you can slap that in pyra's Inventory and BOLT away. Still though, awesome effort

    One of the bad things about Srpgs is that they are slow as F###....but that's my fault cause I like watching the animated battles. Lol yeah,. Ooh, hope you play the demo of Visions of Mana. You get some free gear for the main game, and the trial really makes you learn the mechanics quick, cause it really didn't play nice unlike the regular enemies. Another feature I liked was the parkour movement. Usually when you run into an object, your character comes to a stop. This game, he just hops over it and keeps moving. Plus no stamina meter. I dislike that so much.

    Yeah man. Currently playing through this now and I can't get over how awful the beginning of the game is in terms of story and dialogue. This is just one example, but there is a whole scene where four characters are having a discussion on the roof of a house while it is being repaired. This of course lead to Garet breaking all of the repairs and Isaac's mom almost falling off of the roof. It was completely unnecessary and added nothing to the characters or story. There are countless examples like this of completely unncessary dialogue. I'm not sure if it was the case of an overly passionate writer or if they were trying to pad the runtime.

  • @Bitsandglory
    @Bitsandglory6 күн бұрын

    Haha, I'm glad I'm not the only one. Having a slightly negative opinion towards this game seems to be fodder for the downvotes. It's a shame, because when I played through half of it when I was younger I really enjoyed it. But it was a chore in a lot of spots in my adult years. Not a bad game or anything, still had fun overall, but goodness the dialogue was endless & pointless most of the time!

  • @neosho3953

    @@Bitsandglory Yeah I feel the same way. I kind of see this game in a similar light to Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. They both pushed the console forward in terms of music and graphics which enthralled a lot of people (children and critics) to the game. As a result, it is really difficult to have a proper discussion about the game because of how emotionally attached people are to it. You think 20 years would be enough time but I guess not.

    Great review! I recently just replayed this, and I'm astounded at how many contemporary gamers seem to downplay the negatives - you're the only one that doesn't vastly overrate it, in my opinion. My take is that I love it for the "Dark Sega" retro style, which is missing from the remakes, and the music, and a few other good points like the size and design of towns, but I think it's almost unplayable in terms of gameplay. The key problem for me is the fatal combination of a tedious, monotonous dungeon design and an absurd encounter rate - it made dungeons feel almost physically painful for me. Nothing like having the experience of trying to remember where you are in a labyrinth and going back into a battle after 2 or 3 steps, over and over again. And games should be fun, right? On top of that, I think the game is also uniquely flawed in how the low level of challenge and the general uselessness of inventory items and attack magic make battles feel awkward, pointless, and unsatisfying. This was thankfully not repeated in any other game, as far as I know. It did have a killer opening sequence though. I'm sure most of the game's sales were due to it. It's funny to consider that from the present era, but I actually have respect for it - it was novel at the time and a good move on their part.

    Thanks for the watch and comment! I like the term Dark Sega, fits it perfectly to be honest. Also thank you. I try really hard, especially the last few years, to make sure I have my honest critiques in - even if it’s a game I thoroughly enjoy. Nothing is perfect. Also agree with most of your takes here as well. I still need to get to the sequel… if only I had more time these days haha. Thanks again for the comment!

  • @MichaelA-rr6hb

    I feel that anybody reviewing that game these days is going to give it too low of a score. Video gaming is too different to really appreciate what this game was when it released. People don't game together in the same room so playing with 2 or 3 people doesn't happen anymore. Also, the other rpg games out had turn based attacking which was slow and boring and this game really changed the pace. Just about every game had glitches back then but the few on this game were minor unless maybe your emulator has issues.
