That aggressive downshift was because your transfluid needs to be changed. I have a 4R75E as well and I drained the pan replaced the filter and added a bottle of transmission honey and it shifts so much smoother. Before if you pushed it the down shifts were so aggressive it would kick you in the ass.

For those wondering, there is two 4.6 v8 options. The base option was a 248 hp, 294 ft lbs 4.6 2v with a 4 speed automatic. There was a "High Output" 292hp 320 ft lbs 4.6 3v with a 6 speed automatic. You can tell the difference without driving them by looking at the instrument cluster gear selector indicator. The base 4.6 will have PRND 1 2, the High output 4.6 with have PRND 1 2 3. The high output actually got better MPG due to the 6 speed automatic, however the 2v with the 4r75e is known to be indestructible.

True, but all 12th gen trucks came with the 3v and the 6r80 transmission. The 2v 4.6 ended its truck run in 2008, and car run in 2011 in the Crown Vic. Also, the 3v had over 290hp.

These trucks are still fast even tho they came with the slowest shifting 4 spd auto of all time, lol. They'd be so much quicker with just a shift kit

Yup that’s the biggest tip on these is to install a valve body. I still haven’t installed one yet on my L but I will soon.

@@Bensvt oh gotcha. I had a 97 F150 with the E40D, which is what the 4R100 was based off of. It shifted incredibly slow as well, then I installed a B&M Street/Strip shift kit. It basically replaced the springs in the valve body with stiffer ones, and had to drill a couple of holes into the spacer plate, and that increased the lines pressure. It made a huge difference, that truck went from being a 9.5 second 0-60 truck, to the mid 7's easily. It was a huge upgrade, especially for the cheap price

I have a Punisher street VB in mine, it definitely improves a lot of the laggy garbage Ford shifting, but I'll warn you it's a little on the dramatic side. Breaking the tires loose on the 1-2 shift at anything over 65% throttle is funny the first few times, but it does get old. That being said, Paul at Punisher will customize it to your liking if you aren't happy with it. I need to get ahold of him and have him adjust mine. All of that said, the VB is easily one of the best drivability changes I made. Even 90s GMs don't shift as garbage as these do out of the box.
