Maggie a Gardener and Maker
Maggie a Gardener and Maker
Before I retired I had to travel extensively for my job in the construction industry, when I bought my former homestead-homebase in 1993 my dream was to sell it when I retired then go traveling for fun. In 2021 I sold my longtime homestead-homebase but instead of traveling I started a new homestead journey renovating an old fixer upper built in 1939 and developing a rural one acre property in northwest Florida. After paying cash for new homestead my first priority was to remain debt free, so I had to choose between homestead without a mortgage or no homebase. I chose to have a homestead first, I feel peace in my heart that my homestead is mine without a mortgage and I do have a small Jayco travel trailer that I may convert to solar and composting toilet. I am enjoying gardening, and DIY house projects, having space to let my dog roam free in my own yard. I need a dependable tow vehicle if I keep my TT, but I'm undecided if I want to do that or build out a rig that I don't have to tow.

I’m so glad that you’re back. I can see how busy you have been during the past couple of months. Your yard has come together nicely. I haven’t been able to do much this year and still need to finish laying wood chips. I will get the deck painted and animal proofed next spring. I also plan to purchase a few large raised beds. ❤
Oh my dear gardener friend Que, you have done so much more than me the past couple months in your garden. I have been doing mostly inside projects last few weeks, also I been doing accounting tax work for a client and so my garden and yard has suffered. I still haven't made my keyhole garden that I learned about from you. The horse manure is still on my utility trailer probably rotting the floorboards of the trailer, shame on me. It has been so blast furnace hot outside and feels boiling water humid outside too the past month or so and I have honestly been happier being inside with aircon.
@@Maggie-Gardener-Maker I totally understand the heat. We just finished with a massive heatwave.
Howdy 😊❤. Thank you for sharing. Such lovely flowers. It’s good to see you again.
Good job on getting you a microphone. Thanks for sharing this video.
I'm looking forward to hearing more about this. Safety while driving is paramount. Take care of yourself. ❤
I gave you a cigarette lighter item that you can put in your car and it sends your voice through your radio speakers. Nothing to do w this post but reminded me of the item that you can be hands free when your phone calls come in or out and not have to hold the phone. Have u done that??
I put that up someplace, I'll have to look for it. It didn't have instructions of any sort in the box or on the box so I looked online to find instructions but then realized the location of my 12volt outlets (cig lighter plug) in my GMC Terrain are both in such a orientation that I can't plug that into those outlets.
Yes, that's what promt me was you were driving and taking pics. Glad you will be safe driving and have all other things you can do when not driving! Luv you too! Happy Mother's Day 🎉
Maggie Everything is looking good. What a wonderful gift. They are growing so good for you. Happy gardening my friend 😊
Howdy😊. Your cuttings look awesome 😊. I see progress ❤.
Hey this seems to be your last video. Any problems or just work overload? Love stay hydrated.
Howdy, that looks delicious ❤. I bet that it was filling 😊. How nice to eat from the garden.
Congratulations on the hard work. I hate flats. Rest well from this.
Great harvest. Enjoy 😊
Thank you. I been watching your videos on my Roku while I work on inside the house so I don't always comment but later I try to get on the computer and comment on some and hit that thumbs up button! I was just watching the one with Crops and Robert, so I'm looking forward to the one y'all were talking about coming up with the berry picking.
Ouch. My neighbor had a new roof done and I ran over one of the nails that flew into my driveway.
Sorry to hear about your tire! Great idea with the stucco base tho 😁
Maggie you will get it done. Why now that is a special treasure. So sweet Maggie enjoy all the memories attached to it. Have a blessed day 😊
That's something i would love to get into, never tried growing micro greens.. great success my friend.. New friend here from Growing My Own.
Thank you!
Hey, Tango!
Howdy Maggie and Tango😊. You’re plugging along. You have great skills, I am loving the journey. I’m about to resume a few indoor projects that I can handle seated. I have a book collection too. I’m keeping that lol.
Oh yeah, books, books, and more books. I kid you not, about 30% of all the boxes you see stacked around throughout the house and porch are books! I know some are so out of date that if I donated them they would end up in the trash bin where I donated them, they wouldn't even recycle the paper, I know that for a fact because I've volunteered at many of the Library and charity shops and that is what they do with books that don't sell. The books on technology that are old are the first to go in trash bin at those places because they don't value old technology. I am a crafter and so even if the books are out of date I keep them because I can always repurpose hardcover books as well as paperback books into some new life for them but mostly I just like to see them on the bookshelf. I had all of them on shelves at my old place before I sold that place and moved up here to this place. Out of date technology books are like history books to me; I think it is a great way to look back on how far technology has come! I have my mama's books too, she loved books. She had different taste in books than me but I still value them because they were mama's and I know someone in the family (like my little sister) will enjoy having many of them. I can even mail by USPS book rate to her. You know it's suppose to be way cheaper than regular but I'm not sure anything is cheap at USPS these days!
@@Maggie-Gardener-Maker I have my mother’s books as well, and I collect old books that I love to read. With my health problems books allow me to escape to wherever a story is set. I like to imagine myself as the main character😊lol.
Great job and congratulations 😊❤. I will remember vermiculite. Good idea.
Looking good😊❤. Thank you for sharing, I am enjoying the progress.
Thank you Que!
Well those are some mighty fine steps!
Maggie You are doing a great job. You are so handy my friend. Have a wonderful day
Howdy, it’s coming along well 😊. I see a difference since yesterday. Projects are nice as they begin to take shape ❤. We moved the same year. July 2021 for me. Stay cool because it’s heating up.

Howdy 😊, I love your home and land and can see your vision that you explained very well ❤. We both are plugging along on our land, but the good thing is that we have it working for us😊. The plants are thriving. I love your doggie. I want a doggie, but I’m afraid that my health would get in the way with hospitalizations and such. Thank you for sharing your awesome tour ❤.
The salad looks very delicious. Tomatoes from the garden make everything taste better. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
Howdy 😊. That salad looks scrumptious. I like stems too. Thank you for the great video ❤.
Maggie That is a great deal. You can never have enough containers. Have a wonderful day my friend
Thanks Renee!
Maggie Ypur salad looks good. Ypu did a great job on your onions. Thanks for sharing. Enjoy😊
Thanks so much Renee!
We're these good for eating? I mean as good as any other veriety
Yes and I did save all those seeds and will be germinating some soon to see what will grow from those seeds. I also found a lot more information since I made this video. I did find a source and I bought seeds from her. I will grow those ones in a different patch away from the ones I grow from y own saved seeds. Okra will cross with each other if they are close to each other when in pollination phase so mine that I saved last from last year may be a cross between others I was growing near that one plant. I will be making more videos this summer on the okra I am planting. The videos will probably be long version, not a short. I made some long version ones on the okra last year too.
@Maggie-Gardener-Maker awesome I will try to find your videos I was worried those short pods would get woody too fast I'm actually looking for Motherland seeds right now

Good luck! I'm impressed - you're doing great! I have no idea why YT recommended your video to me tonight, but I watched & think you're very brave & inspiring to show this glimpse of the journey you are on. Plus I read the full description & it's impressive how much stuff you have already sorted through! I don't have as much stuff to sort through (part mine & part 2 deceased family members) - & I'll be getting rid of a lot of mine by donating - but it is so hard to get myself motivated & stay with it. I'm working on it a little at a time when I can summon up the emotional & physical energy at the same time lol, & I've been picking up steam lately thank God.
Thank you so much for stopping in and commenting! I hope you will check out my other videos on garden and DIY. I'd love for you to follow along on my journey. Maybe start documenting your journey might help you get through it and then later to look back on to see how far you came.
Dang neighbors. Is she old?
She and I were talking over the fence awhile back about this fence falling into my yard and I reminded her that I offered to help her take the fence down and she can take the wood and repurpose it over in her yard farther away, maybe up around her house. I suggested she do like I did on the other side of my house and install the fence boards horizontally and paint them black. It is a stunningly attractive look and would be great backdrop for flowers and climbing roses! She was going on and on about her physical condition and being old. I said I bet I'm older than you! She laughed and said no way. Then she said she is 68 years years old! I laughed and said I win because I am 72 years old. Her mouth literally dropped open. She acted like she didn't believe me. LOL.
Doesn’t your county or rural area have laws for things that your neighbor doesn’t do to make them to it. Noise ordinance?
I am documenting so that I have proof of times and dates so that if I decide in the future to make a complaint I will have clear concise evidence of both the fence and the dogs barking at night.
Any steroids
No steroids. Vetprofen is the antiinflamatory. There are many brand names for that NSAID, the generic name is Carprofen. I used that for the girls for years. Additionally when needed is an actual pain medication called Gabapentin. The girls had that and it helps Tango also because just like the girls, his is the nerves from spine affected the legs.
Sister you need to make a shade New Orleans garden around that tree and put tropical plants, they love moist. Wind chimes, table chairs, alittle music and a breeze or fan hooked up high. Get those free bricks and make a setting area would b awesome. Love and so glad you found some natural fertilizer. Love u
LOL... that fertilizer is the fish emulsion that I mentioned many times over past couple years, I also been using Dr Earth products for many years, they all drive Tango into frenzy smelling, drooling and then he eats the dirt where ever I put it so I have to be careful with it. I have found plants dug up before and him eating the dirt!
I do have long range plans for that area as a shade garden area. It is on the west side of my house, it's just outside the bathroom that's in the house. You may notice the trees are growing beside the old brick shed. You may have seen in other videos the shed roof is leaking and rotted in some portions. I have long range plans for that brick shed too. I think it will compliment a shade garden area adjacent to it, I think I may have mentioned in some videos that I have to remove the roof and joists due to rot. What I really want to do is remove the roof and remove part of the walls and reconfigure the building to make it a garden lounge area. I should make a video telling about my plans but I want to get the travel trailer out of that area because it is in the way to anything I want to do in that area. As usual with all things it seems there are ten other things I have to do first before I can do what I really want to do.
Yes I have seen your beautiful garden. And you do such a wonderful job with it. Thanks for sharing your garden with us. Have a wonderful day
you are sweet my garden friend, I wonder what kind of bird egg is in that nest, I need to go out there and look to see if it is still there because we had a storm roll through last night again
That plant is so pretty. Your garden looks so nice. Thanks for sharing my friend 😊
You are sweet, that bromeliad is so special to me. I guess wen you mentioned my garden you are referring to my big garden out back? Did you see my last video kzread.info/dash/bejne/oHp8qtCLnMaynbg.html

Thanks for a wonderful video today and some great information. Looks like things are moving right along on your property.
I reckon you are talking about the other video showing my old dog and inside my house? I hope you watched my garden videos too. My garden is sure blessing me this year with abundant harvest.
Maggie You are getting that space together. Its going to look great when you get it done. Can't wait to see the finish product. Have a wonderful day
Thank you. If I didn't try to have such a big garden all during year I could do much faster but I love my garden and eating the food I grow. I also enjoy not having to buy the veggies at market. I know you feel same way about your garden that is looking fabulous!
I forgot to explain about blueberries that is in title of this video, I picked a bunch that were ready, I think about 30 blueberries but I ate them while I was in the garden.
Love to hear your rambling 😂
It’s looking good. You’re working hard.
