An Army Veteran and a German Girl .... Building up our self-sufficient life one step at a time.
We've been saving up for years and planning for our move back into the country. In March 2020 we took the leap and relocated to our 20 acres of oak trees lost in the pines of Florida's panhandle and left the city life we had lived for 7 years behind.
On our channel we document the journey of arriving at our piece of land and building everything up from scratch, with all the learning that comes with "on-the-job" training. From building infrastructure, over animal husbandry and gardening, we are doing it all and taking you along with us in our videos.
WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Lumber is always cut long
Love these dogs. We have had five of these dogs over the years on our property in the Rockies. The best farm dogs ever.
So amazing! Looks like mama and baby are doing well! 🤞
There’s also the local cougar population and when you get young males dispersing them more likely to take livestock. But those dogs have been bred to literally chase off everything from lions leopards brown bear hyena. So without wishing to be rude a Panther while it’s no mug a couple of those big dogs will definitely put one to Flight but it’s also a matter of saying local predators if you come here looking for a free lunch you just going to get chewed up, you’re putting a big sign on the door saying no free lunches to predators and these dogs actors the bouncers. It will be interesting to see a statistic as to how many encounters get physical compared to the amount of encounters where it’s just a lot of barking and snarling. When you’re an ambush Hunter, if the dogs know you’re about to race a ruckus then it’s over with for you. All for a bear unless they’re very very hungry it’s not worth the risk of getting injured. Coyotes unless there’s a pack of them and they’re against the group of your dogs, unless they’re sneaking the dogs to go with something which is three times their size and a hell a lot more powerful. When the return from the valley in Wyoming, they killed off about 90% of the coyote population. And this breed isn’t exactly a Chihuahua so go figure on a coyotes reaction when they see that thing.
Are they good with kids?
I love them all, Anatolians, Kangal, Akbash, Hymanna Karasi, Malaklasi, any of the LGDs. Any working dog really. Great stuff.
"Farmers can't protect their livestock with firearms" - Liberal idiocy.
When she touched her nose, momma looked down and said "look"

It's too hot here for them
What is the earliest age to best determine a puppy's temperament/personality? We lucked out with Shayla, our late GP/Anatolian/mix. We had her from 14 weeks to 15+ years. She was a great family pet in our suburban home. She went to puppy training for socialization, had a big fenced yard to hang out in, got walked two 1+ mile walks most days, taken to a park and a relative's farm where she was allowed to run free. She liked everyone in the family equally, was our wiener dog's best friend, and adored our grandchildren. She was dominant and resilient without ever being overtly aggressive. It's weird now that she's gone as this is the first time in 30 years, we've been dogless. I'm thinking about getting an Anatolian Pyrenees as I really like the mix but want to get one with a personality less independent and a little more people oriented than what I hear most are.
Also wanted to mention I walked Shayla with a loose leash allowing her to stop, smell, and pee on about everything she wanted to. When the wife started walking her while pushing our grandbabies in a stroller, Shayla was all business. She walked next to the stroller like it was her duty. She did this on her own with no training involved.
We had a telescoping flagpole before we moved. Guess I will have to do more research as ours before COULD fly flags at half mast.
I'm sure there's options
It is a great explaination video , youtube should suggest more views
The more engagement and people sharing. The more youtube will push it
My grandfather had Kangals while being a Boer in SA. Scariest looking animals and tough as nails! But absolute cuddle buddies for us and the livestock.
They're amazing
Where is the actual recipe that you used? You made a video but no recipe for the amounts that you used for each ingredient?
Well the Obvious reason,.. Is We're Damn Good Looking 😏 Even though you may not know what i was 😇🐕🦺🥰 ... a little from Column A, a little from Column B
GREAT TEAM & JOB!!!! WHATS THE CATS NAME?
Do you know. Can you fly a 5X8 flag on that 25 footer?
She is beautiful.

Hi, and Happy 4th of July guys the flag and the flagpole are absolutely stunning. I always wanted to do somethinng like that in my yard 🎆🦅
Hello there from central CA.. getn Anatolian pup in few weeks .. it'll grow up in few hundred acres farm also had a great Pyrenees in past..where in middle east did u come from? Also ethnicity of ur wife always find people's heritage an background fascinating..thanks for doin what u do
I don't know what everone is talking about. If you can pick your rooster up... he's fine. Mine is 4 foot tall and 350 pounds. He's at the door as soon as I come to the pen. If I don't have food in my hand, he starts eating me and knocking me over. There is no grabbing him or picking him up. He's so mean I have to use the men of the house to draw attention away from me while I sneak in and try to grab the eggs. He did kill a hawk that got in tho, the only reason we let him live.
RECIPE AMOUNTS??
Aww, the fine smell of burning bone.
Does it need to be in a cool dark place during the fermenting process? Or can it be done in the light on your kitchen counter?
I've done it both ways and it's done best with a slow ferment in the fridge
Do what????
It's in the video description, but here you go: - Expose to livestock early and observe behavior. Correct as needed. - If an older "mentor" LGD is on site, be sure to introduce them early. This will help establish order and expectations. - Socialize them - Establish routine (food, water, praise, corrections) - Get them used to being handled. (Baths, grooming, health checks, vaccinations, routine maintenance, etc.) - If you will need to transport your dog frequently, assure to kennel and car ride train them

These guys are great, what a great Dad... and yup the son too! We raised 2 boys on hobby farms throughout the south, I often say in these days long gone by, "I'd trade a thousand tomorrows for one more day on a hobby farm with our 2 boys". 23 yr Naval Aviation Vet... Aircrew.
How long it take for concrete to set up? Looks like you were ok to level it
Is this the same dog as a Kangel?
When trying to post a catch and clean video...make sure you have a sharp knife...
Love your channel. we have two Anatolians What do you think about our dogs? kzread.info/dron/q_Gc5DETrOT22TF_jV_dWQ.html
Another high-falutent homesteading channel. Any channels out there that a normal low-income person like me could watch? So many impractical setups for the average joe like me.
Plenty. It all comes down to what each individual wants or can invest in.
NIGHT SHOT WOULDVE BEEN NICE
Ooops
Thank you for the info but I couldn’t help but noticed you had a black and blue eye😮. Hope you’re doing well
I had to check. 😀 It's just tired rings under my eyes lol
Congratulations for making the right choice for your homestead. Kangals are really not only very effective shepherd dogs but they are also very loyal and affectionate. They are very protective of their own environment. Based on my experience with my Kangal I can say that they know when to alert you rather than barking at every sound they hear. They are not aggressive in general, and they act when they have to. Good choice; enjoy their company.
Yes they are!
You can see the evil in his eyes brother!! hahahaha Hope he worked out for you! I've got 9 roosters total, about half up and coming and a bit of a pain in the butt sometimes. But I've got some awesome boys. Got them working in pairs and they do such a great job. Just recently got one back from the dark side after battling with him for close to a year. Much of the help turning him came from his big brother and top dawg in the hen yard. Rooty boy had my six with Chester no doubt. Don't always work out though. Some of those boys are just possessed with a mean spirit, not only with people but with their birds too.
Truth!
Queen Anne lace or some call it cow itch cause if you get it on you it will cause a rash and itch so bad
Its carrots!
i have two armenian gamprs, these are very similar to the anatolian shepherds (basically the same)... these ancient breeds are the best naturally best behaved dogs to have
They really are amazing
Great information and you know what you are. So many people don't read up on breeds and then get rid of them and blame it on the dogs. I read up on all the dogs breeds of the world. and it's amazing what you learned about them. and i also watch videos of breeds so i know what to expect. Well done Great video 😊UK 🇬🇧.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! We love the breed
Our Anatoluan was able to alert us to a rattlesnake we were then able to dispatch. Smart calm dogs.
Yessir!
