The Three Principles of the Goblin King:

1. The material world is not relevant.
2. Do not attempt to bargain with the Goblin King, engagement is inherently dangerous.
3. The Goblin King deals only in Geist. There is Geist, and Geist alone.

I've always felt like the denial of Paul Alen's death, by the lawyer, was the pinacle of what a lawyer could do. What I mean by that is: after Bateman told him via phone that he killed Paul Alen, the lawyer immediate response was to cope with whatever bullshit Patrick believed, what Patrick seems to understand by the end of the dialogue. But nowadays I think my point of view was stupid and irrational, anyways.

I clicked on this video, thinking it was gonna be an extremely political, sort of “out of left field with its takes” negative review of one of my favorite childhood films. When I instead watched was one of the most well written, funniest, most thought out video essays on one of my favorite pieces of media. Thank you for this :)

Also in the book he doesn’t kill Al or his dog. He stabs in the body multiple times for several minutes, slices his nose to pieces, stabs his eyes out and cuts his face up. He then throws him a blood slicked nickel a calls him the N word, then stomps on the dog’s forelegs till they stick up at an “obscene satisfying angle” causing him to laugh. But believe it of not Al lives. In a short scene, Patrick sees him some time later begging with a sign saying he lost his eyes in Vietnam. The dog whimpers as Patrick leans in and sneers in Al’s ear “ I know you didn’t lose your eyes in Vietnam”. Al pisses himself. What I’m saying is movie Al was lucky.

Warning: this will be graphic as Patrick in the book is a fucking sexist, racist, cannibalistic demon, making the movie Patrick look like a choirboy The Dorisa bit comes to a pretty disgustingly violent head in the book. He ends up meeting with an old girlfriend who is dating an old mutual classmate of theirs, a classmate that Patrick saw as a loser and never liked. Turns out he’s a successful restaurateur and one of his ventures is Dorsia lol. Patrick is externally cool and flippant but internally boiling, incoherent with rage. He smoothly coerces her back to his place for a glass of wine, though she protests at first because of the hour, but he succeeded. While she waiting on the couch he rushes up to her ,curses her out for dating the Dorsia guy and he hits her over the head knocking her unconscious. She wakes up restrained with him firing nails into her hand into a piece of wood behind her hand with a nail gun,as he essentially drowns her in pepper spray in her eyes, up her nose, in her mouth ,down her throat until it’s a thick layer on her face, all the while shouting abuse at her and firing more nails into her hand. She’s crying ,coughing, vomiting, begging, urinating on herself drifting in and out of consciousness as he begins to rape her mouth till her head is crushed into the floor beneath them and she can’t breathe , the nails now so numerous that he runs out of space and they’re crooked and bent against each other. The fingers he hasn’t nailed he chews the flesh off. This goes on for a while him macing her, raping her head and mutilating her in various ways like stabbing her breasts and cutting a nipple off, cutting her tongue out until she dies in pieces. He leaves her body in a closet for some time. The book gives subtle hints to certain actions not being real and just his sick fantasies, and this might be one of them. Think about it: wouldn’t sticking your dick into a throat full of mace burn really badly? Not to mention repeatedly spraying mace in an enclosed space. He never mentions any pain, burning or coughing on his end, just rage and disgust.

I think it all really happened, but it was covered up by his lawyer in the end. I mean, his lawyer is on retainer for a reason and he may as well stop the court hearing and guilty verdict before it happens 😅

I remember when the book came out.I knew a bunch of women that read everything on the NYT bestseller list, and they all talked like it was murder porn. When I finally read it, it was one of the first times it really struck me that none of these people had a sense of humor.I mean, it's probably the funniest thing I've seen , period. And I hate actual comedies. It's a good reminder that it's better to keep your own council in certain company. I moved in with a woman that did appreciate it, among other things, sometime shortly after,- but she turned out to take herself quite seriously as well.

Lego Movie 2 is one of the only sequels that I felt was genuinely good. It’ll never be the first movie, but that’s okay. It doesn’t have to be. Those movies came out at two very different points in my life, and it’s okay to accept that nothing will ever be cooler than seeing the movie in the theater when I was 9.

I always wondered why Patrick Bateman of all characters was chosen as THE mascot for the “sigma” culture. He doesn’t really fit any other example of the term. Tyler Durden is cool and rejects society. Joker rejects society. Patrick Batman is the absolute pinnacle of the cancer that is society. He doesn’t reject it, he embodies it. It makes no sense for guys to connect with that. It has to be as you said and teenage boys just didn’t watch the movie.

The baffling irony of the "sigma" or "alpha" little boys bullshit bringing this movie in reminds me of the irony of Little Dark Age edits. Little Dark Age, a leftist song about police brutality, protesting, opression...used in dumb, historically innacurate and simplistic edits glorifying right wing or traditionalist ideas... I pity those people. You have to be a big idiot to unironically consume that.

I remember buying the book and having to put it away 150 pages in cause I was getting scared at the amount of shared behaviors. I was 15 and I never felt like finishing it then my ex had me watch the movie and I just couldn't help to feel weirded out by christian bale who showed me I really wasn't that weird. And I always find it weird that men take the wrong lesson away from films like this one.
