I have a 2017 Keystone Alpine. I keep getting a connecting to BCM message. Turning the system off and on fixes the issue for a short time and it is back again. I have done a hard reset. Unplugging shore power and unhooking the battery. That helps but the issue returns. Any tips would be great. Thank you for the tips about taping the wires!

@@garylawson5230 we also change the wiper seals if they need it. We find that most times it’s the bulb seals that need replacing. Probably because those get neglected the most.

This was the video that I needed to watch. I may have another season left in my awning. I just wasn't sure about the spring situation, and you showed exactly what I needed to know, so it won't unwind on me. I have plenty of zip ties that I will keep on hand, just in case the awning fabric comes apart while we are out on a trip. I'll probably just secure the arms and cut the fabric away and discard. I actually think I can do this job with the help of my son. Thanks for sharing!

My thermal switch was not bad, but in checking it I found that the wire on the other side of the thermostat was disconnected. Thanks for your video. It helped me understand the system and consequently found the loose connection.

One question, it seems you only had about one foot of fabric unwound when you pinned the torsion spring and then when you unpinned the new fabric, you had about three feet of fabric unwound. Wouldn’t this cause the spring to have less tension and the motor to have to work harder to wind the awning in?

No. The tension is the same. The awning arm shocks take up the excess tension. It’s a very low tension spring, on this, to begin with.

Hello, I swapped my glass fuse out for the blade type a year or two ago. The last few times we got the camper out of storage and started the fridge the compressor kicks on for a few seconds and quits. I have to switch the temp dial to off and back on to get it to try to start again. This goes on for a while before it will finally stay running. Sometimes when the compressor tries to run its for a few seconds and sometimes it just bumps and quits. Any ideas?? Lights still work. Could it be the blade fuse or something on the compressor?

@brandonandrews1983 we had to have an RV repair couple come and repair our RV refrigerator. It was a corroded wire; it worked for three days and then began cutting off and on every few seconds. The refrigerator stayed cold for one day and then quite altogether. We have a 2022 RV trailer.

After I got the camper cooled off inside, it started no problem. I assume that means something else might be struggling because of the heat as I used to not have this issue. I’ll be ready to replace the whole thing sooner or later. It’s a 2020 model.

Stick with wire nuts and then put heat shrink tube over the wire nut. It’s better to use wire nuts that don’t have the wings on them so the heat shrink tube goes on easier.

The only time my detector is going off is when the hot water is turned on. If it was a dried trap, it would happen even when using cold water, right? The water heater was electric powered not gas. The camper has sat for about a year. Any suggestions??

There’s a possibility that it could be a dried trap issue and the hot water is causing the trap to stay open longer. Not sure. That’s a good question.

To pin it? You have to tap your power button on the awning to rotate it to get it to line up.

AC units have 2 sets of coils - evap and condenser. The fan draws the air through this coil as it is the one that has refrigerant going through it, that air goes into the cabin. The coils you see from the ground that’s exposed sheds heat, that one you do not breath. 2 fans, 2 coils.

Okay I’ll check my battery. Mine goes off every few days. I’m going to clean the sink and shower really good as well just in case. But thank you for some ideas. I don’t have my propane tanks even hooked up and it was fine before unhooking them. But I’m thinking most likely it’ll be a battery issue because when there was a strong propane smell an RV repair man came and fixed it and not once did this go off and beep. Now that that’s fixed and propane’s been unhooked cause I don’t use it so figured wasn’t making sense to have them hooked up. But I’ll try the battery and see if it helps and clean the shower and sink.

Yes. In the summer we operate in MI and in the fall, winter, spring we operate in FL. There’s a lot of start up costs, getting certified, tools, insurance, operating costs, continuous education, etc and you need to be very informed of state laws as they vastly vary from state to state.

Thanks so much to the both of you. I would not have attempted renewing my electric awning without watching your video a number of times. There are lots of manual awning videos, but not as many coving Dometic electric ones. Couple of points might help anyone else attempting to do the job themselves - my one had screws both ends, so might be worth checking before bursting a gut trying to pull the old one through. Also the gutter end spout was held in by a ton of caulking, but also TWO hidden screws, so it was a lot of fun getting the old one out!

There’s that “Amish craftsmanship” they like to throw around. My husband has been an RV tech the majority of his life and one of his favorite sayings is that they’re put together with scotch tape and bubble gum. Coaches aren’t put together any differently by the Amish than they are anyone else. ESPECIALLY the wiring.

Get a mini split. Throw the roof air noisy unit in trash. Almost silent. Cooling and heating. No noise inside or outside.

Absolutely! Mini-split puts out more conditioned air than the rooftop unit and does it more efficiently. Add in a soft start and you could even power it with a solar panel system.
