Welcome to the best place on KZread for Pathfinder Lore! I'm the MythKeeper and my channel is a deep dive into the lore of Golarion, the world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.
CONTENT ADVISORY
Fantasy setting lore sometimes covers material that viewers may be sensitive to. Be advised, in this channel I generally do not shy away from discussions of a mature nature.

I'm glad to see that Pathfinder gave some real thought to the Neutral Good and Neutral Evil planes and outsiders. DnD mostly skated over both, but here they have clear nature theming Both are given a nature theme, but contrast the wisdom and peace of the Agathions and the savagery and cruelty of Daemons. Meanwhile, Yugoloths can't be described as much beyond "manipulative jerks" and Bytopia barely exists.
Yeah Nirvana and Abaddon are definitely core elements of the Pathfinder setting, as important as all the other outer planes
The beginning is muted
See my video description. The intro was recorded in right-channel only mode for some reason and I haven't been able to correct it. You should be able to hear it out of the other ear piece.
@@TheMythKeeper Ahhhh. Thank you! I generally watch these at work with only one ear in so I was very confused
All of you videos make me wish there was a crusader kings mod for this world...would call it Golarion Kings or something.
23:07 As a person who had his baby become miscarried, the last few seconds really brought on a lot of introspection on a fictional goddess. I'm not exactly sad... I guess I need some time to process the thoughts.
I guess I can thank Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous for tossing me in the Pathfinder lore rabbit hole
Haha! Yeah its a great entry point
thighs and titties......
Did Paizo update the Entothrope monsters for 2nd edition?
I don't believe so, but it would be a quick and easy adjustment to create one
Cool! This was very action-packed. I wander if the description you give like Marius tearing the gremlin apart with his bare hands was actually him just kicking this guy with unarmed attacks in grapple with an epic finisher description, or more of a rule of cool moment?
Unarmed attacks in a grapple. Its all in how you flavor it though!
Diyanah is pure gold 😂
😂
Brevoy is more like the Commonwealth of Poland and Lithuania mixed with Westeror, than russia, even coastline remind Poland costline.
👏👏👏👏

Partway through Part 1 and, unrelated, had to skip back to the invitation at the video's outset to let you know anything I'd like to hear about in particular... I've got something, they were touched on very briefly in the Special Bloodlines video: the Aphorites, tied to the elemental plane of law; and the Ganzi, with ties to the primordial chaos. I would like to hear more about those. They stand out among the planar archetypes and bear little resemblance to modrons or slaad.
I _think_ these are going to get retconned slightly in Remaster, so I'm going to wait before I do any more work with this. Remaster is replacing all of the planar ancestries with a single ancestry type called Nephilim that breaks down into various subcategories - so instead of Tiefling, Aasimar, Aphorite and Ganzi - they're all Nephilim now. We'll see how it all plays out and I'll update when the dust settles.
I found the WOTR video I was asking for. Thank you, Mr Myth.
Yes! Right on!
I was looking for Mendev and Worldwound lore in preparation for buying and playing the WOTR crpg. I'm not sure this is the right video, but it's still okay. I'll come back to this, maybe... one day...
Check out my Worldwound video maybe instead then ;-)
I love that the area where the Whispering Tyrant was stopped is the namesake of the Tyrants Grasp AP. As someone dming a group for it I find it funny.
You're going to have so much fun running TG. Very excited for you!
wow so the Isle of Kortos is a perfect little sandbox; great for new GMs and new players. even those with a lot of experience would do well here as its so concise thematically.
Yeah, in MMO terms its the low-level zone 😅
I noticed that PF lore has werewolves abiding by the "Alpha" rules by strength and (if needed) by force kind of society for their pack structures. In real life, that view of wolf social hierarchies is attributed to a biologist who studied non-related wolves in captivity, and when he observed wild wolf-packs they followed a family structure with the matriarch and patriarch at the top, rather than by force or strength. It would be interesting to show those as contrasts in a home-brew world (or a specific region in Golarion) where several Natural Werewolf families living together have a more co-operative and familial hierarchy and families celebrating groups pledging to form new packs like new families being born into the community (festivals that would put an extravagant wedding to shame) while groups of natural and/or afflicted werewolves are held together by the need to survive and strength is required to keep the afflicted in line when they frenzy. Could maybe add something about the new Arch-type for lycanthropes from Howl of the Wild being a path the afflicted walk to stay in control of the beast (since it forces their transformation under the full moon, but not a frenzy or fugue state).
I think this is one of those places were you wouldn't need to adjust this for a homebrew world or a specific region in Golarion, but just adjust it in your Pathfinder games in general. The creators are quite open to retconning things when the zeitgeist shifts and it would make sense for you to feel free to apply such adjustments in your own game. If werewolves as written don't reflect the behavioral patterns of real-world wolves then its an easy adjustment to make.
So, now there are male harpies? Whatever. Absolam is big enough to have years' worth of adventures. I gotta admire how much love and thought and creativity the Paizo people put into their setting.
I am still operating under the female-only Harpi. On Kortos Isles they have a preference for Halflings. This has led to a high amount of orphaned halfling males left near the hamlets and small villages around the foothills. Many of these grow up drawn to working in the wild areas of Kortos. As young men any groups they are in are not bothered by any harpi and often are aided by a harpie without realizing it. These Halflings are considered lucky due to this and their greatest eyesight and hearing.
@@JamesAdams-nd1td yeah, I discovered this making this video too!
Huh, that’s pretty cool.
@@JamesAdams-nd1td I also discovered this is a 1E change, not a 2E change, as later 1E content starts introducing male harpies as well. The Sandpoint Light of the Lost Coast (2018) book refers to male harpies as well, so I guess the old Monsters of Myth supplement got retconned at some point.
@@TheMythKeeper I guess they wanted to make it different from DnD. Either that, or the designers decided do something less edgy for the sake of being edgy.
Android was an awesome twist and a good surprise
Nice glad you enjoyed it!
Sipho had been known as the Dread Privateer Roberts, taking over from another former privateer named Ryan...
Hehe!
another good video. side note: IIRC James Jacobs himself said that the minotaurs and Baphomet no longer have anything really to do with each other as Baphomet's ties with minatours has to do with DnD and due to the whole OGL debacle they are divorcing the two.
Yeah, I like this better
I so badly want to play an orphan of Cailean who joined the Andoran army and failed to get into the Eagle Knights and sets out to adventure to prove his worth.
This is a great character concept
I didn't manage to watch the last one to it's fullest extent and the next one already dropped, man you're fast. Thanks a lot! Gonna binge the whole 3 parter tomorrow.
Yeah I crank them out, I know ;-)
Is the trial of the Starstone still possible or is it no longer accessable?
Its still accessible. If you have a high level PC that wants to become a god, you can talk to your GM about doing the test. That being said the track record for successfully completing the test are very low. They take 1000s of aspirants each year, and they all die. The only known successes are Iomedae, who was a rare and highly determined paladin who must have been really powerful in life (she did beat the Whispering Tyrant after all), a sneaky thief who no one knows how he did it, and a person who was drunk at the time and does not himself remember how he succeeded. So... basically it seems like its a complete crapshoot. I feel like an ambitious person may find alternate more reliable (and safer) paths to power. In the world of Pathfinder, there are plenty.
There have been mentions that any Adventure Path including the Test of the Starstone will be for the creation of a Patheon. So, it will involve all the characters reaching the Kortos and taking the Test of the Starstone together.
We finished our long Absalom Jorney. But what's next? Final parts of Garund or Avistan? Or maybe Tian Xia?
There are some fun people and places I still haven't visited yet, and yes, I am definitely overdue for some Tian Xia content as well.
Thank you. Another great episode. Is there any lore history vids on Tar-Baphon?
Not yet (Gravelands / Lastwall still coming) but he gets heavy mentions in the Ustalav and Belkzen region videos.
@@TheMythKeeper Roger, thanks!
Shyka is the coolest.
Agree!
is it possible to get more dwarf related videos and some deep dives please?
Yes, there will be some more dwarf content in future (one on 5 Kings Mountains for sure) but I don't know exactly when it will land yet
@@TheMythKeeper that's awesome thank you so much I'm trying to build a world and I'm starting with dwarfs as I love them and your video helped me understand the pathfinder ones so much easier and i just want to know more, I love the idea of a dwarf character retaking the orc captured sky fortress
If you search for Earth Dawn, there is some interesting takes on Dwarves. Also, search for Khuzdal. Khuzdal are the Dwarves in the World of Hârn setting and Middle Earth. Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying has a great take on Dwarves also. Especially the outcasts.
Just don't delve too deep.
Huzzah! Add a comment and 👍 Like to support the supplemental, in-depth video on Otari & its connections elsewhere. The fishing and logging Hamlet of Otari is the primary starting location of PathFinder 2e. ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ Don't pass up all the excellent videos created and maintained by this channel.
Oh man... just generating more work for me, I see 😅😅😅

I love the discussions at the end of these videos! They’re short and sweet but super insightful and it’s so interesting to hear a way that your group and you as a GM made this AP your own. A cleric for a few sessions sounds cool!
Thanks! I appreciate this feedback!
Truly a dungeon city
This is awesome! 💯
Haha! Awesome, thanks for checking this out and offering the positive comment!
Lovely, so good to hear more
Thank you!
I feel we should also mention Chimon's brother Hei Hei and his cousin Ani Aru Okei.
😅😅😅
Ya know, I was looking for a villain for a Firebrands themed one-shot. . .
Aspis Consortium would make for a fine nemeses for a Firebrand faction one-shot
Never a waste of time.
Thank you kindly!
I always found Annam to be one of the most underappreciated Great Gods of the Classic D&D settings. Fandarra takes up much of his flair of uniting wisdom and the ways of nature (earth), although being just a Stone-Giant Goddess and not a Pan-Giant, she does not have the same level of Pretender to be the most powerful God of them all. Edit: Annam, not Ymir.
I love the giant gods in general, and I definitely want to make a concerted effort to see them have a little more play in my Pathfinder games - especially after having made this video
Hellknights began as the Punisher but became judge Dredd.
Sounds about right
That little rat charachter has such a cool design! I wish the party would have befriended the little wizard rather than fighting
Dagio the Magnificent was pretty far gone by the time the party found him. Cool looking, yes, but the consciousness of a wizard trapped in a rat's body for over a 100 years mad him a little unhinged. Plus he was obsessed with circles. How would he and Diyanah ever have gotten along?
I wonder what the relationship between Mammon and Abadar is?
Canonically - unspecified. However my 2 cents, is not good. Mammon is a god of greed, which means he promotes the hoarding of wealth. Abadar is a god of commerce, so he promotes investment. While he does encourage his followers to 'spend money, to make money' he also believes trade in general betters society overall. He's also a god of civilization and culture, and the exchange of ideas. Mammon probably feels to him like a corruption of his ideals, and this would probably get under his skin. (But this is just my 2 cents!)
as usual, great video
Thank you!
Given the limited audience the topic has, I always appreciate the quality of your videos. Keep it up!
Really enjoying this. I know it's a fair bit of work on your part but I hope the positive feedback helps fuel you!
It does! Pf616 lags behind in views pretty substantially over my regular content, so hearing that people are invested keeps my motivated.
Would it be possivle in the fitire to have a "deep dove conflict" series or such, that goes not jist into different factions/regions/countries, but why two or more fight amongst themselves? (Such as The Pathfinder Society and The Aspice Consortium) Maybe it could go into rival philsophies, first skirmishes, and current battlegrounds. This might cover too much similar ground as your regional or faction videos though
This is a good idea but I'm going to double down over the next 6 months on closing out my region deep dive series in parallel with PF616 series, and then I'll be looking for some more content to work on, so this is a good idea to keep on the backburner for now.
