    I bought two of those Chinese Brunton copies and found that they are well designed, rugged and well made EXCEPT the hinge is terrible and causes the alignment to wobble. I improved the hinges by substituting the crummy hinge axles for solid metal axles and now my compasses are more useful and more rugged than is my real Brunton Compass that I bought over 50 years ago. My plastic Brunton knockoffs are much lighter than the solid metal Brunton and they aren't nearly as easily damaged as the real thing is. If you are a geology student, you won't have the "prestige" of owning a Brunton, but you will have the full functionality of a Brunton at a tiny fraction of the price.

    Bought mine new years ago. Used it commercially for land clearing. Starts right up to this day. Great saw. Never had any issues with the way it runs or idles. Interesting mod. Considering it because I do believe in letting an engine breath however, it runs like a champ and cuts logs without any noticeable issues bogging down etc. i also was taught if it's not broke, don't fix it. Hmmm. Something to think about.

    I keep mine running as well bought it in around 2005, got a sacrificial for free for spare parts. I gave up on the switch just touch the wires together to kill it. Reason i keep it going is it has a pole saw attachment with it. Only thing i have to rebuild the carb diaphram a so many years but now that i found ethanol free gas its seems to last longer.

  • @GregariousAntithesis
    @GregariousAntithesisАй бұрын

    @@design2survive i wont pay for a stihl overrated i have an echo vac blower that keeps going no carb issues so if i buy anything it will be echo. My buddy back in DC runs a sideline arborist business and he uses echo now as well. I use both the pole saw and trimmer quite a bit so i definitely dont want to have to contend with two pieces of equipment keeping them going. Two strokes are great until they arent then they can be a nightmare.

    I bought a Mitchell 300a in the mid 70s for $30 and I still use it especially in the spring. I just cleaned and lubed it today using lithium grease. It looks like it may outlast me. Problem is there is nothing that comes close to it if I ever have to replace it. The same goes for the rod I bought with it.

    The restrictions designed into the muffler is to provide a pressure balance after the blow-off phase of the stroke charges the muffler and provides a gas barrier to the transfer phase so it doesn't blow the air/fuel charge out into the muffler. It is also designed for the highest efficiency at full load 9500 RPM and strikes a balance of fuel economy/emissions/performance. Opening up the exhaust a little bit can help the saw breathe better at the expense of more fuel and more particulate but opening too much actually hurts power. It's best to make small changes, tune and test .

    Hey man! Good to see you again! Good weather for building a shed. Pro tip: If you rip the tail down to 3 1/2" from the corner of the birds mouth cut to the end of the tail, you'll have a better look if you put 5/4 x 6" facia on the ends of the tails or even if you just attach your gutters directly to the tails.The tail won't interfere with the shearing and siding either.

  • @design2survive
    @design2survive2 ай бұрын

    Great to hear from you! Yeah that's a good tip, I was sort of wondering if I should do something like that. I ended up notching the siding as you'll see in the next couple of videos. Probably doing it all wrong lol. What you are saying would have been a better, cleaner solution...but I might just end up cutting an extra angle into the tail to shorten it vertically a bit.

    Just got done replacing the carb and two of the rubber isolating bushings. Tried the hard way first but that plug up against the engine was very difficult until I finally removed the four screws from the housing to the engine. Then it was a simple matter of tipping the engine enough to remove the plug. Oiled the bushings and they popped right in - then inserted the plugs and put the whole thing back together. Not difficult if you pull the engine out of the way and only took a few minutes after wasting an hour or more trying to do it the wrong way. Good video. Thanks.

    Gresham, Sandy etc? Cool. I'm in Historic SE Gresham/Assert and currently studying for my tech license. Already have an HF/50M base radio so also working towards the general. Got an Alinco mobile arriving Wednesday hence my interest in your vid. We have a Subaru Forester so I guess it will be slightly different but the basic idea is the same I imagine. Btw how does the antenna coax cope with being shut in the back door? I know there's the rubber gaskets but I figured they would still crush coax somewhat or the door hinge might mess up or the door not close properly? I guess not then! Btw, where do I find local repeaters? I looked recently and could only find two in this area on the webnsite I was directed to. Thanks again for the instructional vid.

  • @design2survive
