My time increments are very small 1e-5, and the odb file till now is taking 55gb disk space. could this error mean that I require to run this analysis on a machine with more physical memory?

    Can CPFEM be used with a surface-surface contact pair or should we use 3D contact? if yes what should be the appropriate timestep for it? A paper "Comparison of the implicit and explicit finite element methods using crystal plasticity" By Harewood states convergence is not achieved when using Contact Pairs with CPFEM model.

    I think something might be missing in the tutorial sequence. I have tried to reproduce it in Abaqus 2020 and 2023 but there is always an error and the simulation does not even start. I have tried different solvers such as Riks, and Coupled temp-displacement (both in steady-state and transient). I have tried elements B31, B31H, PIPE31 and PIPE31H with no results at all.... What version are you using to run these simulations? I thik there might be a bug in these Abaqus versions...

    My plasticity model works for time step 1*10^-6, when i run my nanoindentation simulation using that material, the computation time is insanely large (100+ days), what can I do to reduce it?

  • @Professor3MEC
    @Professor3MECАй бұрын

    it is explicit or implicit analysis? for explicit you may try mass scaling while keeping any eye on total energy and kinetic energy, as later shouldn't be significant. For standard analysis try stabilisation, and also contact controls and stabilisation options.

    Sir,In Abaqus, I'm performing an explicit coupled temperature-displacement analysis. In my analysis it requires normalizing of time. The author of the paper says "We normalized time along with the normalization of thermal conductivity with its reciprocal in order to bring down the computational cost of simulations. The obtained solution using normalized time was again converted back to normal time accordingly " . Sir, How can I return to regular time in Abaqus after normalizing? My thermal conductivity is 10 and my step time is 36000 seconds according to the paper. Does my analysis require me to inverse these values in order to normalize? Is this the correct way? Should I additionally normalize the time that I utilized as a tabular input time(0-36000 sec) for my boundary condition if I do this?. I would be very grateful if you just share your thought regarding my query.

  • @Professor3MEC

    Thank you for the tutorial; it's very helpful. I want to modify the fall cone test, which is somewhat similar to the nanoindentation test. However, in this test, the cone penetrates the sample solely under its own weight without any additional applied load. The problem with my simulation arises when the angle of the cone is reduced (e.g., 15 degrees as half of 30). In these cases, the cone does not make contact with the sample and seems to penetrate without resistance. Conversely, with a larger angle (like 45 degrees), this problem does not occur. Can you guide me on how to solve this issue? I would be grateful if you could provide a way to contact you, so I could show you figures for a clearer understanding of what I am talking about.
